Help needed on connecting internet Personal Router Posted: 23 Mar 2014 02:54 AM PDT I've recently taken Hathway Connection. I've a Sitecom router (some European company). Issue is if I connect my system directly to hathway modem then Internet works perfectly. But if I use the router then I'm not able to browse to internet with Domain names. If I try the IP address of any site, it will get open. Example; google.com wont open directly but 74.125.224.72 successfully opens. I had spent 2 days on google and trying from my side but no luck. Hathway tech support says this is router issue they can't help. But as this is some imported router so cann't call TS like NetGear folks.
Before posting I'd read this post http://broadbandforum.co/topic/42556-setting-up-wi-fi-router-on-hathway-broadband/. DHCP is enabled on my router setting. Tried Mac clonning as well but didn't work. I appreciate if someone can help me out. |
Using the Dlink 2750u as a true Ethernet WAN router Posted: 23 Mar 2014 02:50 AM PDT I'd actually already posted on how to use the Dlink 2750u as a full fledged Ethernet WAN router, but it was a few pages deep in a Tikona thread and some users were getting the actual method mixed up with workarounds posted earlier in that thread.
The 2750u is actually capable of both adsl and Ethernet WAN routing. However the Indian firmware only enables the adsl WAN. So one needs to use the Middle East (ME) or Russian (NRU) firmware to enable the Ethernet WAN function (with the ME/Russian firmware one can use adsl, ethernet or 3g WAN). Please check the label under your router to identify the specific hardware version and apply the firmware that corresponds to it. Warning: You may brick your router if you apply the wrong firmware. Presently ME firmware is available for C1 and U1 versions. NRU firmware is available for C1. The NRU firmware has the mac cloning feature so you need not ask your provider to reset the mac lock (if mac lock is present). Here are the links
ME C1 v1.3 http://www21.zippyshare.com/v/26312555/file.html
ME C1 latest http://www11.zippyshare.com/v/86244007/file.html
In the latest firmware, I'm having a problem getting my 3g dongle to work, which is why I've posted both versions. Once the firmware has been changed to the ME type, one can easily switch between versions (of the same hw type) using the software update page and one can choose which version works best for them.
ME U1 http://www9.zippyshare.com/v/92256090/file.html
NRU C1 ftp://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/ADSL/DSL-2750U/Firmware/1.0.14/DSL_2750_v1.0.14_cfe_fs_kernel
Applying the firmware
The firmware may not be accepted in the normal firmware update mode. Then you'll need to update it in the dlink crash recovery mode using a LAN cable (not wirelessly). Assign a static address on the PC for the ethernet interface in the 192.168.1.x series for eg 192.168.1.5
Switch router off, press the reset button ie insert ballpoint pen in reset hole under the router, keep holding the reset button and turn on the router. Keep holding the reset button for about 12 seconds after you power on the router. Now you'll see that the power led has turned red signifying that the router is in crash recovery mode. When you enter the address 192.168.1.1 on your PC browser, you find the upgrade firmware page. Just browse to the downloaded firmware file and flash!
After the new firmware has been flashed, your internet connection will not start working automatically, you will also need to set up the router correctly. Please do not apply any workarounds mentioned in other threads such as interface grouping, disabling DHCP etc
Instructions for setting up the C1 hw version router with ME firmware
Step 1: Log into your router and under Advanced setup->Layer2 interface->ETH interface create an Ethernet interface with connection mode as default. Then go to Advanced setup->WAN Service and add service for eth0/LAN4.
Step2: If you have an internet connection with pppoe dialing such as pacenet, Honesty etc, in the next page, choose pppoe and put in username, password and service name in the next page. Also choose to enable NAT. In the next page move eth0 from available to selected gateway interface (if it's not already in selected) and remove ppp0 (if present) from selected, in the next page do the same for DNS and finally apply/save
Step2 (alt): If you have a connection such as Tikona, Reliance metro, cable internet (without pppoe dialer) etc, in the next page choose ip over ethernet, in the next page let the setting remain at Obtain an IP address automatically, in the next page check option to enable NAT, in the next page move eth0 from available to selected gateway interface (if it's not already in selected) and remove ppp0 (if present) from selected, in the next page do the same for DNS and finally apply/save
Step3: Then in advanced setup - 3g connection select primary uplink as ethernet.
Now connect your internet cable to the LAN port 4 of the router and you should be able to connect through any device connected through wifi or any of the other LAN ports. If you have a connection with a browser login such as Reliance metro or Tikona, the login page will show up only on the first device that you connect in each session. After you have logged in on any device, all other devices will have internet connectivity without going through the login page.
Instructions for setting up the U1 hw version router
In Internet setup, set WAN access type to Ethernet and in protocol, choose dynamic ip for connection such as Tikona, Reliance metro, cable boradband (without pppoe dialer) etc and choose pppoe if you have a pppoe dialer based connection such as pacenet, honesty net solutions etc.
If your provider uses a mac id lock, then plug in the internet cable in port 4 after completing the setup and ask him to register the new mac in his database.
Instructions for setting up the C1 hw version router with NRU firmware
After you flash the interface will appear in Russian. Click on the rightmost dropdown at the top of the page and choose English to change the interface language.
Click on Advanced Settings at the bottom Click on Interface Grouping in the Advanced section. Right click on the LAN icon on the right and click on setup speed and stream. There's some quirk in the interface and it's a little tricky getting this click right. Set duplex and speed to auto and save. Again hover mouse over LAN graphic and click on Make WAN. With the default option of 'Single service...' click save. Go back to the advanced settings screen. In the Net section click on WAN and add a connection. Choose connection type accordingly and choose LAN as the interface. Change MAC if required (if provider uses mac lock), put in other details as needed (make sure NAT stays enabled) and click save. . |

Posted: 23 Mar 2014 01:09 AM PDT Guys, Need your suggestions in 1 of the queries that I have with Home loan and this is kind of urgent. I have purchased an apartment which is under construction and will be ready to move in by March 2013. The total cost of the flat is 30L out of which I have paid 8.5L as down payment and 21.5L as loan from SBI. Now as per my sale agreement with the builder, He needs money whenever the work is done. For example, If the brickwork is done he needs to get 20% of the payment and so on .... Now here is the problem, SBI has already released approx 20L to the builder out of 21.5L last week, When I asked the bank how can they release so much amount when even the flooring work is not done, they mentioned that Builder asked for the cash and we gave him and for more details I need to talk to the builder. (The rule is the bank needs to inspect the property and they should release the amount only once the work is done, which was wrong by SBI). When I spoke to the builder, He apologized and told me that whatever extra they have taken from the SBI he can refund me and I should pay him whenever the work is done. Or the other option he is giving me is -- He will pay me the interest of 7.75% as its the interest rate in FD in most banks for 45 days.(Considering it might take about 45 days to the flooring work to be completed). I want to know, What are the options do you guys feel is right? Or I should take the cash from the builder and put it somewhere else for 45 days? My current Home loan rate is 10.25% floating! Thanks for your help guys |

Posted: 23 Mar 2014 12:02 AM PDT Goodbye BSNL! I finally have an viable option and can consign my BSNL broadband connection to the garbage. To be honest the service was not too bad - I had the 8 GB @ 2Mbps plan and by and large connectivity was okay. But the speed was never up to the mark. And on the few times I had problems, their customer service was so bad I felt like ripping the phone lines out of th wall. Firstly, they only work from around 10 AM to 5 PM. So what happens if there is a problem outside thosehours and urgent work is held up? And if you do call during working hours, it takes ages for anyone to answer - the average is the phone rings for about 10 minutes. And once you get an asnwer the oeprator is least interested in hearing about the problem - she is in a rush to give you a complaint number and go off.
But what made me decide to finally give BSNL the kick was a couple of weeks ago when the connection kept going on and off every few minutes. After the usual headaches I was able to maek a complaint in the morning. When nothing was done till late afternoon I spent another half an hour tryign to call them again. When I got through and said that nothing had been done about my complaint, the operator said that there is nothing she can do and gave me the number of the local telephoen exchange and said I should phone them. That number was, of course, always busy.
Another ongoing issue with BSL is that at fixed times everyday - aroud 5 PM and 10 AM in my case, the bandwidth dropped considerably. Other sers tell me that this is because BSNL allows public sector clients to use excess bandwidth - its a government to government thing and the hell with private users.
There are other service providers who offer up to 40 GB downlaod (upload not taken into account for calculating usage) at speeds of up to 15 Mbps. There is no reason why anyone should use BSNL. I am happy I got rid of this third rate organization. |

Posted: 22 Mar 2014 11:38 PM PDT Hi guys,
I had heard some great reviews from my friends about ACT broadband, so I had almost decided to switch to ACT ( was about cancel my existing service). But after reading the reviews here and elsewhere I must rethink.I live in Girinagar,Bangalore . My existing connection is slow but atleast its reliable , what I dont want is fast connection which is not reliable. From the reviews read it appears that this is what ACT gives, which is a deal breaker for me. And apparently the speeds of websites hosted outside india are pretty bad ...so mostly I have to rethink for sure . |
Posted: 22 Mar 2014 11:16 PM PDT Friends, Having recently shifted from Gurgaon to Delhi, I opted for a MTNL (1Mbps unlimited) broadband + fixed line combo connection. As in my area MTNL is the only 'recognized' broadband player. The technician tried to use my Binatone Airtel modem (+ router) to activate the MTNL broadband but there seemed to be some issue as the internet light on the modem devise never lit. Finally after a few calls with the MTNL backend office it was declared that my Airtel modem will not work the MTNL connection. I requested the lineman to get a MTNL modem (+router) for testing purpose. He obliged and we got the broadband running on the MTNL test modem 450TC-1.I could not figure the make of the MTNL device. Now I am in a bit of dilemma - do I order the MTNL modem (+router) and pay a rent of 75/- per month. Or do I buy the D-Link DSL-2750U Wireless N ADSL2 4-Port Wi-Fi Router (highly recommended on the internet reviews) which is approx. 2200 on Flipkart. Just a few questions on this model: 1. Is it worth the price? As the MTNL device is also right now (testing phase for 1-2 days) is giving more or less full signals on my laptop/mobile devices (1700 sq ft area) . Speedtest.net showing a download speed of .94 Mbps. 2. However the moment I put a media file on download (4GB) on my laptop (via Vuze) the speed immediately drops to .30 mbps or even lower. I am not sure whether the Vuze download is the only culprit for this drastic drop in speed or is the MTNL modem? I say this as during my Airtel days despite downloading of 7 GB the speed use to remain at least .50 Mbps. 3. Will the D-Link solve the speed issue as it supports a higher speed (and all those fancy specifications) ? 4. I hope the D-Link DSL 2750U is a modem + router combined. I read somewhere that it is just a router and I need to get a modem separate?? 5. Any other Modem + Router that you recommend in the same price range? Will appreciate your feedback here. The show is doing wonderfully well. I personally love it. It's different, no cheap comedy and pure entertainment.
TRP wise it's doing extremely well. Currently at the top in it's category (even above the likes of KBC, Jhalak Dikhla Ja, etc.) and overall 3rd.
