| Pathetic Experience with a new Airtel Broadband Connection Posted: 24 Mar 2014 03:13 AM PDT I wanted to share my experience with regard to trying out a new Airtel Broadband Connection. Here it goes, hope it helps others.
So I am fairly happy with my BSNL and rarely think of changing it. Recently, though, started to use youtube for study materials and found the buffering to be very annoying. So after trying to work around and analyse what else I can do, decided to try out a new connection. Saw the reviews of ACT and Airtel, somehow as I have been using Airtel Postpaid since time immemorial, decided for it, as the service has been very good.
Now, see a pamphlet, asking to 'call xxxxxxx for an Airtel Broadband'. I give the guy a call, and he lands up within 10 minutes at my place. I give him all documents and ask him, when you the whole setup start working, he tells me, 'Saar, maximum by 2 days', I say, fine, no problems. So I wait, for two days and nothing happens, call the guys and he starts to give his excuses, today, after two hours, tomorrow morning things like that. So frustrated, I call Airtel and they are even more hopeless and say 'Sir, please call the person, to whom you gave the docs, we cannot do anything'.
Then I call the DSA Office, they again give me crap about problems with the line. Then I call the guys manager, and he says, I will call you in 10 minutes, Does he call back - No. Not even once these guys have bothered to call me, Not even once Today, is day 5 of this episode and the manager says, by 2pm, I will have my connection working, and guess what it is 2:10 pm right now.
So, wrote an email stinker to all parties and copied Airtel biggies, hope they read.
But this has shaken my belief is the 'so called' private companies are better. Honestly, BSNL's service is the best I have had, and if they had the same plans that Airtel has, I would pay more and get it.

| Drinking age in Mumbai enforcement Posted: 24 Mar 2014 03:05 AM PDT So me and few friends are planning a trip to mumbai and pune this summer vac. I just reading about it and learned that drinking age is 25 their and you need some special permit to buy alcohol.
Is this law regularly enforced there? We would of course be buying alcohol from local shops as well as going to bars.
We are all 21 or +-1. Should i be worried about it?
And lastly, seriously mumbai, 25?!!! |

| Poor service and broadband connection not provided Posted: 24 Mar 2014 01:03 AM PDT My name is Nilesh Kumar and this is with reference to my application for new broadband connection, TNPB004067. The new connection installation is pending owing to some technical fault as described by Customer service center in Chennai. But, I would like to bring to notice the POOR service offered in communicating the same. I had applied for new broadband connection by paying online (Rs. 500) on 6th March. As mentioned, I were supposed to know within 3 days if connection is feasible in my flat or not. I got a call 2 days later and was told that connection is not feasible. This is ridiculous because we have been using 2 MBPS connection until the owner of connection moved out. I explained the same to the lady that I already have a line (wire) in my room and only thing required is a MODEM. After this, I used to get calls everyday to collect the documents. Upon, explaining that Monday to Friday is a work week, and they should come to my office and collect, they used to just say they will check and let me know and never came. I called everyday to get the documents collected stating EVERYTIME that this connection is extremely important for my PERSONAL and PROFESSIONAL work, but unfortunately, NOBODY came. Only when I called everyday that the request was made high priority and on 12th March, Karthik (Contact : 9940565699) came to my office to collect the document(s). I paid 500 (for installation) + 100 (for notary attestation). Having received confirmation from Karthik that installation will be done by Saturday that week, I was relieved and was waiting in anticipation for installation. I got a call on Monday from Tangadhurai (Contact : 9600069519) hoping that it is for installation when I realized he was asking for documents which I had already submitted but was being asked again for the same. Once this was cleared, I called everyday again stating the IMPORTANCE of this connection for my PERSONAL and PROFESSIONAL work. They explained to me reasonably that there is some technical fault because of which it is taking time. Then, one day (19th March) I received a call from Anand (Contact : 9790798988) mentioning that he will come to my home at 6 pm that day. I took early release from office JUST to be there at home for installation. I will admit that I was getting impatient because of the LAZY services I have received so far and I called him like 10 times to know if he is coming, but he just disconnected without speaking clearly (I could not understand a thing he was saying). I also sent messages to his cell. I will admit again that by this time I had become extremely impatient with the communication of the problem. After waiting for another day or two I called again and then I was told that the problem has not been resolved and I should cancel the connection. This was told ONLY upon me calling everyday to ask on the status. Finally, I have requested for cancellation. I am not writing this because I want my money back or something. I just would have liked to see the installation and service done smoothly. I have used airtel services in other locations (Hyderabad, Bangalore) and I was more than satisfied with services in those locations especially Hyderabad. But this is the first time, that for installation, I have received such a POOR service. I posted the above in : Appreciate if you can ensure the quality of service remains high! |

They have started advertising quite heavily in Bombay and their plans seem pretty decent. Their 600kbps UL plan would be excellent for me. I really like the way they have bill limits for their limited plans as well. That shows they understand consumer concerns about enormous bills and have designed their plans to allay them. So how good is their service? Any down time? How quickly do they respond to complaints? Really any information from people who have used Tikona would be appreciated. |

I later realised that my DLink ADSL2+ router wont work with FiveNet. Now after a lot of researching, I found the following 2 routers the best for my use... TP-LINK TL-WR841N 300Mbps Wireless N Router - TP-LINK: Flipkart.com Netgear JWNR2010 N300 Wireless Router - Netgear: Flipkart.com As you may know, I'm not a genius in this field and have no clue what important specs one should look out for when buying a router. Well, I want your help to decide which of the above 2 router I should purchase. |

Basically I was referred to Hathway service ( here ) because of my issues with In2Cable. Can someone who has Hathway comment on the few questions I have? Thanks.
1. Does hathway work similar to In2Cable where the connection is obtained via PPPoE or do I need a cable modem? 2. (BIGGEST GRIPE WITH IN2CABLE) What is the IP renewal interval on Hathway connections? (I don't plan on getting static IP).
Why im asking: Current provider in2cable's cable connection uses PPPoE and the connection does a 6 hour IP refresh (I use a router and it many devices connect). Downloads that are slow and span beyond 6 hours will die unless it is via bittorrent. Plus this 6 hour IP renewal window causes a lot of issues with VOIP Calling to the USA where the call gets dropped because of the IP change. This happens WAYYY too often. Sometimes the IP will change even within 2 hours and calls to the USA get interrupted.
I'm hoping Hathway's IP renewal interval is longer and doesn't drop my calls so often. Can someone comment? Please help,

Hi! I'm Prince Daniel from Chennai. I'm a fellow user of YOU Telecom for the past four years but the last one month.
YOU was really a great ISP for gaming and also in terms of download and stuff. But then, I had to change my home. So, we moved onto a new area and here unfortunately YOU didn't have feasibility.
And yeah, I had to go with some other ISPs. Then I heard Dickona(Tikona) was good from a friend. I visited their website and they had good plans like the one I'm using now, 2MBPS 1:50 content ratio after 50GB at Rs.1100 per month.
Pretty nice ping too but the thing is dickona is so lame that everyday starting from 4 P.M onwards till 12 A.M, the speed drops heavily even to 100kbps and the ping rises to around 500-999ms. (Such WoW!!).
This problem exists even after contacting the customer care for like 2000 f**king times. I'm so done with this crappy internet.
A month has passed, I'm gonna call them and ask them to refund the second month's money and just tell them to gtfo tomorrow when the sun shines. -.-
Now, I need a better internet that stays Stable and also provides me good speed and ping.
I should either go with Airtel or Reliance. Airtel seems so costly but I do know they're one of the best ping providers in India.
Came across the Reliance's attractive plan of Rs.1099 for 4MBPS connection without any Fair Usage Policy. Just wondering if the ping latency will be good. Because if it is, I'm definitely buying it.
I'm a hardcore gamer. I play alot of Dota 2, League Of Legends and Call Of Duty 4 Multiplayer online.

11 Nov-2013 - I applied for a new ACT BB connection today in Kundanahalli Gate, Bangalore. I will keep you posted on the developments. 11-Nov-2013 - Cheque payment made to Sales executive, Babu Reddy, details filled on form and submitted to him.
ETA - 3 days for wiring and connection to be activated.
12-Nov-2013 - I got a call from ACT technician today that cabling would be done by end of the day. Got a confirmation call from Customer Care at 1543 hrs, IST today that connection will be activated in 2 days. So far, so good. 12-Nov-2013 - At 1616 hrs, IST I receive a call from Mukund who is the ACT technician saying that the wiring has been completed to my apartment on the third floor and i would be receiving a call today at 1700 hrs, IST for username and password. Mukund confirms that I can use my internet connection from tonight.

12-Nov-2013 1159, IST - First level checks indicate amazing speeds with YouTube where I can watch videos without buffering in Full HD. I will keep posting various workloads I consider to be bandwidth intensive and would update this thread.
Any downtime or disconnections will also be reported. |

BSNL...not so good in my place.
Only reliable option is Airtel...now they have made all plans 512 kbps after FUP i'm planning to take the connection.
Need info on
1) Shall i book online to get 500 cashback?
2) Is it OK if i choose 4 mbps plan to get free WiFi router?
3) Need info on smartbytes issues |
