Which LED TV is Best in LG/ Samsung/ Sony 32-inch section

Posted: 14 Mar 2014 03:01 AM PDT

Hi,

I am currently having Sony 32 inch Bravia HDTV (Not FULL HD), and it is very nice.

I want a 32" FULL HD, and i would prefer Sony only, but currently Sony not making any 32" FULL HDTV without Smart TV function (if they are,.. do suggest..but i am certain, as i called them to re-confirm)

Now here are the models i am looking into.

  1) Samsung  LED 32F5100    cost around 32k-34k

  2)  LG LED 32LN5400 (it has IPS panel)  same cost as above

  3) Toshiba 32PT200   around 26k to 29k

All above three models are FULL HD

I can go upto 35k, but for best panel quality. I do not want smart features.

I plan to buy Playstation 4 later, hence FULL HD is important.

Sony comes around 40k+ with smart features, which i am not gonna use, as all those features i can use with other gadgests which i already have.

All Sony TVs below that range without smart features are just HD , not FULL HD.

If anybody is having above models, please do share your experiences.

Hero MotoCorp Splendor iSmart launched

Posted: 14 Mar 2014 01:19 AM PDT

Hero MotoCorp Splendor iSmart launched at Rs 47,250 : ZigWheels.com

8YsF3D6.jpg

With the Splendor iSmart, Hero MotoCorp introduces the i3S Technology (Idle Stop and Start System), which is a start-stop system that shuts the engine down while the bike is at idling and in neutral, while it automatically starts the engine as soon as the clutch is depressed and you slot the bike into gear. This technology is going to be instrumental in increasing the already impressive fuel efficiency of the bike, but as of now, Hero hasn't revealed any details in that regard.

The Splendor iSmart sports a 100cc air-cooled single cylinder four-stroke engine that produces peak power of 7.8PS at 7,500rpm and maximum torque of 8.04Nm at 4,500rpm.

Priced at Rs.47,250 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Nextra starts throttling torrents at 50KBps

Posted: 14 Mar 2014 01:15 AM PDT

Starting 11 March, Nextra has started throttling torrents big time.

On a 20 Mbps connection, I always got at least 2 MBps speed from well seeded/private torrents. Now its reduced to 50KBps.

Upon checking with their "network engineers" I was told they do not block torrents and have no such capability, which is obviously a farce. When this had happened to me on Airtel, they agreed in the end that they throttle torrent traffic and I was intimated of this "unofficially".

My advice: Stay away from Nextra if you are into torrenting. Airtel is probably better, when I had 40 Mbps Airtel I still got throttled to only 8-16Mbps for torrents (FTTH).

Can someone comment on Airtel throttling situation currently?

Google Maps and Google Earth Updates

Posted: 14 Mar 2014 12:11 AM PDT

"Google Earth utilizes broadband streaming technology and 3D graphics, much like a videogame, enabling users to interactively explore the world-- either their own neighborhood or the far corners of the globe," said Keyhole general manager John Hanke. Unlike Google Maps, Google Earth also lets users rotate their view to see terrain and buildings, and add annotations to maps. Google Earth can be downloaded for Windows; a Mac version is currently in development.

Goodbye BSNL

Posted: 14 Mar 2014 12:06 AM PDT

Goodbye BSNL! I finally have an viable option and can consign my BSNL broadband connection to the garbage. To be honest the service was not too bad - I had the 8 GB @ 2Mbps plan and by and large connectivity was okay. But the speed was never up to the mark. And on the few times I had problems, their customer service was so bad I felt like ripping the phone lines out of th wall. Firstly, they only work from around 10 AM to 5 PM. So what happens if there is a problem outside thosehours and urgent work is held up? And if you do call during working hours, it takes ages for anyone to answer - the average is the phone rings for about 10 minutes. And once you get an asnwer the oeprator is least interested in hearing about the problem - she is in a rush to give you a complaint number and go off.

But what made me decide to finally give BSNL the kick was a couple of weeks ago when the connection kept going on and off every few minutes. After the usual headaches I was able to maek a complaint in the morning. When nothing was done till late afternoon I spent another half an hour tryign to call them again. When I got through and said that nothing had been done about my complaint, the operator said that there is nothing she can do and gave me the number of the local telephoen exchange and said I should phone them. That number was, of course, always busy.

Another ongoing issue with BSL is that at fixed times everyday - aroud 5 PM and 10 AM in my case, the bandwidth dropped considerably. Other sers tell me that this is because BSNL allows public sector clients to use excess bandwidth - its a government to government thing and the hell with private users.

There are other service providers who offer up to 40 GB downlaod (upload not taken into account for calculating usage) at speeds of up to 15 Mbps. There is no reason why anyone should use BSNL. I am happy I got rid of this third rate organization.

Smartphones, Facebook, WhatsApp break down marriages in Bangalore

Smartphones, Facebook, WhatsApp break down marriages in Bangalore

Technology is taking its toll on marital life and leading to more divorces in India's IT city. Of the more than 5,000 divorce cases filed last year, at least 3,000 are related to technology. The grounds of divorce varies from illicit messages or calls or chats or Facebook posts on smartphones getting tracked by either of the spouses to using GPS to track down a partner with a lover to an extreme case where the wife chats on WhatsApp during sex. Some even use Apps to retrieve deleted messages or photos to prove their partners are cheating on them.

Dont know whether one should laugh or cry at people becoming slaves to technology.

BSNL - EVDO - Usage - Review and everything about it

BSNL - EVDO - Usage - Review and everything about it

I know its a old school connection , about 4 years old but till now there isnt a better wireless plan compared to this till now

Rs 750 Pm True Unlimited . Prepaid

Pros:
1. True Unlimited no FUPs - i download around 100-150 Gbs a month, i can download upto 200-300 Gbs but i run out of files
2. Priced cheap compared to others , when they charge Rs 1000 with 10 Gb FUP
3. U dont have to talk to the customer care ever

Cons:
1. it has too many
2. Coverage is too thin , forget about slow speed there are places where u wont get any service at all
3. u just cannot walk to a BSNL office and buy this sim , because 70% of them doesnt know there is a service like this
4. CDMA
5. Availability of CDMA- EVDO modems in the market
6. Recharge Problems , those STVs mentioned on the site dont work most of the time ( lost Rs 1000 over online Recharge couple of times)

even after all the above i just love this connection , its prepaid and costs 750 pm , unlimited
have nice coverage in my town , so always get 1-2mbps , but dont ask about the ping or latency values

with this connection i have never thought about another connection for 3 years now .

have some doubts ? want details ? ask it here

happy to help

Max speed , remind u that my device supports upto 3.1mbps only

Recharge:

recharge for Rs 20 for 6 months validity , make with a retailer if he says this amount is not available insist that it works

topup for any amount you like , every 30 days the rental would get deducted automatically

Auto Text Expander for Google Chrome

Posted: 13 Mar 2014 04:53 PM PDT

Chrome Web Store - Auto Text Expander for Google Chrome™

7wk3pFi.pngrl78I8f.png

Create custom keyboard shortcuts to expand and replace text as you type!
Ever get tired of typing out long email addresses, phrases you frequently use, or just looking to save keystrokes as you type? Well fear not! Auto Text Expander is here to solve that; like TextExpander for Macs or AutoText for Windows, not as powerful, but installed and synced across Chrome browsers! Great for Chromebooks. ;)
Still a work in progress, so constructive feedback and code contributions are welcome (https://github.com/carlinyuen/ChromeAutoTextExpander).
This free (and ad-free) extension adds basic javascript to your pages to check if your last set of consecutive keystrokes matches any of any number of custom shortcuts you can define and expands and replaces that text as you type. Save time, typos, and the satisfaction of being extra lazy!

P.S. Would love it if you could email me with feature requests and review the extension fairly based on how it matches up with its described features. Thanks!

Features:
- Customizable list of expander keywords to expand, which are synced across Chrome browsers.
- Support for multiline expanded text, html can be injected into content-editable divs (like Gmail).
- Ability to locally backup your shortcuts and restore them from backup (per browser).
- Macros for today's date with customizable format using Moment.js (date/time will be based on your browser/computer's clock)!

- Icon in the address bar to let you easily access and edit your shortcuts / expansions.
- Usually works on all text inputs and textareas, with special support for content editable divs like on Gmail and Facebook and Evernote Web.
Some known caveats:
- A few sites intercept and block the script, so your shortcuts won't work on those sites, like the Chrome webstore, or Google Docs unfortunately.
- Some sites also use iframes that are on a different security protocol (http vs https, like say an embedded Google Docs form), and that will prevent the script from working as well.
- Google Chrome does not allow this extension to work in the URL address bar, or option pages of other Chrome extensions / apps.
- Put in some fixes and workarounds for making it work in Gmail and Facebook and Evernote Web, but is subject to breaking if they ever change their sites.

Good Performance, Low Noise, Non Gaming Desktop!

Posted: 13 Mar 2014 03:04 PM PDT

So... With all three HDDs failing, I guess it's time to plan for a new desktop instead of risking more hard disks failure.

My basic requirement is quite simple... Need a high performance machine. I do not game but I do have a 30" display that requires a Dual-DVI input for native resolution.
I currently have a quad core AMD processor with a CM fan. 8GB RAM. 3 HDDs (500GB, 1TB, 3TB). I would be sending in the drives still under warranty for replacements or whatever. From what I understand only the 3TB WD HDD is still under warranty.

So... What I am looking for here?

I would prefer a compact cabinet like I got for my uncle. But I am not sure if it is suitable for my needs. Need something that can survive for 3-4 years. Budget? Would prefer to spend less than 40K because anything above would be obscene for what I do with it.

I would try to recycle as many parts as possible but I do not see the point really. The internals in this box right now are at least 4 years old today except for the hard drives and RAM.

So... This is what I want...

High quality cabinet

High quality PSU

A motherboard with USB 3 ports

Mid-range processor

8GB RAM (I assume my existing sticks would work fine?)

1 SSD for OS with 1 large capacity drive for data (or 1 hybrid with 1 data drive)

A low-end or mid-range GFX card that can support the display and has a decent fan!

This is what I have right now:
