When will BSNL launch new broadband plans? Posted: 30 Jan 2014 02:00 AM PST hi Guys,
Its frustrating that BSNL is yet to launch truly unlimited 1/2/4 Mbps plans for < 1500Rs. Its perpetually offering 512Kbps speeds from last 4-5 years. Not only that, they are not even offering speed boost say after 6pm like MTNL does. Its not only about downloading torrents. Even if i want to watch Youtube files, I am not able to with 512kbps. They should start offering speed boost to 2/4Mbps at 6pm to 8am slot if offering the same at daytime is not possible. What can we do in this situation ? Can we all raise a CRM ticket at selfcare portal to demand this ?

Tikona Broadband User Experiences Posted: 30 Jan 2014 01:24 AM PST Thought I would start another thread for people who have actually used this service to describe their experience. They have started advertising quite heavily in Bombay and their plans seem pretty decent. Their 600kbps UL plan would be excellent for me. I really like the way they have bill limits for their limited plans as well. That shows they understand consumer concerns about enormous bills and have designed their plans to allay them. So how good is their service? Any down time? How quickly do they respond to complaints? Really any information from people who have used Tikona would be appreciated. |
Mobile Number Portability FAQs: How to safely port your number from one service to another Posted: 30 Jan 2014 01:17 AM PST Facts about MNP: MNP is always a government regulated body that implements the solution and keep track and record of port-in and port-out numbers among operators. A centralized MNP server and "Centralized database" is maintained by MNP body and accessible to all operators. There is always one "Donner" (subscriber port-out) and "Acceptor"(subscriber port-in) operator in MNP topology Tehnically speaking IMSI and MSISDN are network dependent and can not be cross-mapped. Therefore if any MSISDN port-out to other operator, recepient operator assigns new IMSI, MSISDN, ICC-ID, that is new SIM card is allocated to subsciber with similar MSISDN but with IMSI ICC-ID of new operator. All operator update the MNP database againt this subscriber and also update the routing table in MSC with " LRN". LRN is alpha numeric prefix appended before the MSISDN and is specific to each operator and plays key role in MNP. Number Portability Clearinghouse makes it easy for mobile operators anywhere to comply with number portability mandates. It serves as a centralized system for porting all number types(CDMA/GSM). In the number portability the major roll is of STP (signaling Transfer Point). STP will have the local database server of the operator and it will in sync with the central database handled by the DOT and TRAI in india. In INDIA, MNP is controlled(Nothing but Number Portability ClearingHouse) in joint venture with TELCORDIA (Number Portability - Telcordia - Number Portability Clearinghouse) Whenever any subscriber want to change the operator he will buy on SIM card and acceptor operator will route(map) the IMSI with the subscriber MDN and same will be updated in the central database. Local database server of accepter and donar network will take the update from the central database. Once the subscriber will moved from one operator to other operator he has to stay with the new operator for minimum of 3 months(90Days) as per the MNP guidelines provided by the TRAI. How Mobile Operators SUCKING BLOOD while PORT-OUT their subscribers: 1) When you send a MNP request to get UPC by sending SMS to 1900, then immdtly your Existing operator's retention team calls you & tries to convince you with new (hidden) tariff plans which is especially made for MNP Switchers. 2) If you didn't convinced by retention team's offers & you still want to PORT-OUT, then your existing operator try to REJECT your MNP request by giving any S.H.I.T.T.Y reasons. VALID REASONS: i) Number is less than 90 days old. ii) PORTing code(UPC) mis-match iii) Requested no.'s service provider is NOT within the same service area. iV) Un-Paid dues in case of Postpaid & negative Balance incase of pre-paid. v) Subscriber's name mis-match INVALID REASONS: i) Subscribers under LifeTime validity. ii) NOT enough positive balance(incase of prepaid). iii) If your number is FANCY one, then they might ask you for PREMIUM NUMBER allotment charge while approving your PORT-OUT(I personally experienced this issue with my Fancy number). POST PAID SUBSCRIBERS, BEWARE OF THIS: Even if you clear out all your dues(generated bills), still operator's billing system shows your account is with DUEs. Its because of your unbilled amount. So, its your duty to call your existing operator & ask for your unbilled amount & add next 10days approximate usage amount to it & Pay the same before you submitting your PORT-IN request to NEW operator. Else your PORT-OUT request will be REJECTED by your existing operator with VALID REASON. DONT TRY TO SETTLE THE UNBILLED AMOUNT WITH YOUR DEPOSIT AMOUNT(if any) with your existing operator. Because once you PORTED-OUT Successfully, you have the rights to ask your OLD operator to REFUND your DEPOSIT. So DONT mess with DEPOSITED AMOUNT while PORTING-OUT. PRE-PAID SUBSCRIBERS, BEWARE OF THIS: Cancel all VAS like Caller Tunes, SMS Subscription Packages(NEWS, Jokes..etc..). Try to maintain your pre-paid balance above Rs.20 till you receive the confirmation SMS from your existing operator regarding successfull approval of PORT-OUT request. Else some of VAS subscriptions may consume amount on regular basis from your existing balance & your operator may REJECT your PORT-OUT request by giving reason as 'Negative/Low Balance'. FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO MAKE YOUR MNP SWITCHING SMOOTH: 1) Follow the TIPS given above separately for PostPaid & Pre-Paid users. 2) Dont mess with "Retention" calls from your existing operator. Handle them smoothly & reject their offers even more smoothly. If still retention team gives you more tention, then just tell them that "My mom & dad/bro/sis got 2 more your connections with postpaid & if you people didnt stop your retention calls & didnt approved my PORT-OUT request, then I will ask my mom/dad/bro/sis too apply for PORT-OUT from you". 3) Once you submitted your PORT-IN request to new operator along with all necessary documents, just relax for 3 days. On 4th day, call to existing operator & as well as new operator's customer care & ask for MNP status for your number. 4) On 5th, 6th & 7th day, Call & write an email to your existing operator's NODAL Officer & request them to PORT-OUT your number & also tell them that 'customer care people are NOT helping you much, so you writing to them'. 5) On Day7, get in touch with new operator & keep on asking for the status of your PORT-IN request. DONT GET PANIC IF YOUR MNP REQUEST GOT REJECTED BY YOUR EXISTING OPERATOR, STILL YOU CAN RE-REQUEST FOR MNP AFTER 15days from the date of UPC Generation. BEST OF LUCK. ![]() |

ACT Broadband Bangalore Reviews Posted: 29 Jan 2014 11:10 PM PST Hello Readers, My name is Vivek Sinha Anurag and i am going to post some "great" work shown by Act Broadband. I applied for ACT Broadband 5 Mbps plan [its having cap value of 35GB after that speed will reduce to 256 kbps] by calling their customer care on 16th Aug 2011. I was surprised to see their lightening fast response as the representative came to my doorstep the very next day and on 17th Aug 2011 Mr Ashitt O.S. collected the money and documents and told me that withing 5 days i will get my connection and i even got sms confirmation that my request no is 142263. Now the real story started. Even after 6 days no one ever bothered to check my request so i called customer care [ 080-42840000] to remind them and i was told that i will get it withing next 2 days. I waited for next 2 days and called them again. I was surprised to learn a new technical term from them that they are "Uploading network" hence its taking time and soon i will get my connection. Since my work was getting affected because of their delay i applied for a BSNL connection too. Now today is 5th September and i am still waiting for the connection and to my surprise i got the BSNL broadband last week. I tried escalating this matter and asked the customer care for any high level contact and they said that i need to mail helpdesk@acttv.in. I emailed them but i got no response. Please note some points regarding ACT broadband before applying ACT broadband 1. They dont have nodal officer/appellate authority [against TRAI rules and i have already escalated this matter to TRAI officials with the help of pgportal.gov.in] 2. They have a customer base of 2500 users in bangalore and they are not able to manage even this small number. 3. They DO NOT PROVIDE STATIC IP [even if they claim to do so] 4. Their customer care service is useless. All you will losse is your balance by talking to them 5. They can "Upload network" [You can imagine the understanding capability of their technicians] 6. They are fast in collecting money but lazy in delivering service Final conclusion: To be on safe side stay away from them else you will suffer like me. Morning shows the day and even before using their service i am suffering. Don't know what will happen when i get the connection and i face any problem that time. |
Posted: 29 Jan 2014 11:08 PM PST It has just been about 8 days since I took up the ACT Broadband connection and it has failed since 3 PM today. I have raised a complaint and the number is 0001483153. I shifted from YOU broadband to ACT assuming that I would have uninterrupted service here, however that does not seem to be the case. A failure in under 10 days is totally unacceptable and I have not been able to work since 3 PM. I work from home mostly and this down time is totally unacceptable.
Please prioritize this and sort out my issue failing which I will be terminating my connection.

Stay away from ACT, Jayanagar 4th T Block, ACT is shameless. Posted: 29 Jan 2014 11:08 PM PST To whom it may concern,
I've been using ACT for a long time, it started off well, kept me happy for a few months and then ACT got shameless and they just don't care about anything anymore. You are doing an atrocious job. So I'm putting it out for people to warn that you SHOULD stay away from ACT, trust me, they just don't care whatever you do. You don't pay, they don't care, you shout on the phone, they don't care, you are nice to them, they don't care. So yea, looks like they made of customers and are stealing their money anyway thus the shamelessness.
Please think upteen times before you call them and say you want a connection.
We have 3 connections alone running in my house, these are the phone numbers registered
I've been thinking, you should remove the "GOOD" testimonials off your website and replace them with what we write here. I still have Airtel running in my house, I'm glad this has been my backup, now if you guys don't attend/call me the moment you read this mail, I'm going to have this connection disconnected since it's been really useless for me. I can't keep paying for services that aren't attended.
Shame on you, ACT. |

Configuring beetal 450TC1 router with BSNL - Help pls! Posted: 29 Jan 2014 08:45 PM PST Hi,
Last year I bought a beetel 450TC1 router without knowing it doesn't work with BSNL connection - I wish I had checked this forum then. I have tried long & hard to make it work but no luck . Gave it up when the BSNL technician told me "this is only for airtel, will not work",
Now doing one last try before I spend another 2k on a new router. Can you guys pls help me, if its possible, to make it work? I have looked at all the old posts here, they all deal with getting the wifi working & mention that I need to downgrade the firmware, but for me even LAN does not work.....
Is there any hope at all?
So far I followed instructions in these 2 links
with no luck! No internet with LAN also. I would be eternally grateful if some one can rescue me from this situation with detailed instructions and also share the firmware needed. Just as FYI: interms of networking/hardware I am pretty much a newbie.
Pls help

Not getting promised speed from Bsnl Posted: 29 Jan 2014 07:46 PM PST With regretful heart I am complaining about the slow broadband speed which I am getting since over a month now. I http://www.speedtest.net/result/3267825004.pnghave taken the BBG Combo ULD 1425 broadband plan which says that I should get 4 MBPS upto 20 GB, 512 beyond 20 GB (screenshot attached). But I am getting the bandwidth around 200 KBPS only. I am very disappointed to say that since last month I am regularly complaining about the same to our local exchange i.e. Morinda and also in Ropar but nothing is working out for me. I am still on a low speed. As per the broadband plan, I should get: 4MBPS bandwidth, but I get around 200 kbps only. As per the broadband plan, I should get: (4*1024=4096, 4096/8) 512kbps download speed. For single download, I am getting around 200kbps. and for parallel multiple downloads, I am getting 70 kbps to 80 kbps. I am a very loyal and old customer of BSNL and I really feel very upset about my slow broadband connection speed. I am facing this problem since more than a month. In the beginning, when I upgraded my broadband plan to BBG Combo ULD 1425 from BB Home Combo UL 750, I used to get very good speed but that was just for few days. And now, I am stuck with this slow speed. Please look into this matter seriously and get it resolved asap. I believe you will not disappoint me. Please do the needful. When I Go to modem site it says maximum downstream rate is 2048(instead of 4096) and Upstream Rate of 512(1024 is promised)
So tell me What should i do Now ???? IS it normal? Anyone having that issue ?????? |

Tikona WiBro issues + Ruckus router IP, login details and configuration Posted: 29 Jan 2014 09:02 AM PST HI, I have recently taken Tikona WiBro connection in Pune and am having following issues and requirements. Please somebody help me. The antenna/access point is on top of my building only. I have been provided with a Ruckus 2211 wireless router. 1] I have taken 150 Kbps unlimited plan and the speeds I am getting is really poor. Also the speed keeps fluctuating and sometimes is so bad that I cannot even open a webpage. 2] Router placement is a big problem. I only get some speed if the router is placed near the window. Even the antenna provided with the router is hanged outside window but does not help much. 3] Wireless speed is even worst then what I get through ethernet cable attached between router and my PC 4] I need to know how can I login to the router provided to me and what is the IP address, user ID and password for router login. A step by step info will be of great help. 5] Can we replicate the configuration of this router to any other wireless router obtained from market 6] How can we change the MAC address of a wireless router. Please help me as I am in a fix at the moment. Thanks in advance. Regards, Rahul |
Airtel IPTV installation with D-Link DSL-2750U Posted: 29 Jan 2014 08:15 AM PST Frustrated with the Wi-Fi performance of existing Airtel Provided Router Beetel 450TC1, I purchased and installed a D-Link DSL-2750U WiFi router and succeeded in configuring WiFi and LAN access for all my data devices.
I examined all the WAN connections on my old router and updated them in the new D-Link router as shown below: ================================================================ VPI/VCI VLAN ID ENCAP Service Name Protocol State Status ================================================================ 1/35 0 LLC PVC:1/35 Bridge 1 Connected 0/35 0 LLC PVC:0/35 Bridge 1 Connected 1/32 0 LLC PVC:1/32 PPPoE 1 Connected ================================================================
The problem I am facing is that the IPTV STB is unable to log into the system successfully every time it is turned on. By trial and error I have identified that the STB logs in successfully if I switch on the router & STB at the same time.
I suspect the problem could be with the router. Either it blocks some traffic from the STB required for logging in OR it fails to detect the device (STB) connected to the LAN port. It would be great if someone can share their experience of making Airtel IPTV work with D-Link DSL-2750U WiFi router in a problem free setup.

ACT worst for consistent speeds -testmy.net reveals real speed Posted: 29 Jan 2014 07:55 AM PST Fellow Internet Users,
Beaware of the ploy ACT Broadband is using to fish innocent customer money. I recently took internet connection for my house near Hulimavu. Before that i was using 2Mbs plan from airtel in BTM. So i know 2Mbps is more than enough for 480p videos and went ahead with the same 2Mbps 30Gb ACT Plan. Now i am just unable to stream a single video from youtube even at 144p. Customer care is WOEFULLY bad. The guys think deleting cookies and tmp directory will increase speed and have no idea whatsoever of how internet works.
Now worst part is they took advance 1398 also. Now even if i discontinue my connection i know for sure it would be a HUGE pain in the a** to get one month rental back which i gave as security and one will eventually give up.
I am sure many would be facing this too. So yea, ACT is not a very good idea.
Another problem is with flash based speed checkers like speedtest.net now the problem with speed test is it does'nt take into account the disconnects or jitter in connection. So using testmy.net which has servers in US i got 70Kbps. PFA the screenshot.
PS: i was using the rj45 cable directly. How worst can it be?
