Cobrapost Sting "Operation Blue Virus"

- They would generate fake following on Netaji's Facebook page, running into lakhs, by creating fake profiles or buying likes from the community of netizens.

- They would create a good fan-following on Twitter, by buying packages of followers.

- They would not allow a negative comment to appear on Facebook page.

- They would do negative publicity against Netaji's opponent, employing methods not necessarily ethical or legal.

- They would post the negative content online from countries such as the United States or Korea, to avoid detection of its source.

- They would use assembled computers for negative campaign and destroy them after the project is over.

- They would use proxy codes on their computers such that their locations change every hour, making detection impossible.

- They would create fake profiles of Muslims to engage Muslims and change their views about Netaji and his party.

- They offered to make the promotional videos go viral on YouTube.

- They would put at Netaji's disposal an in-house database of voters, categorized according to their vocation, area of residence, age, income level and religion.

- They would use offshore IPs and servers to avoid tracing of the source of online content.

- They would hack into the computers of other individuals for posting defamatory content using their IPs

- They would use Internet-based messaging system to circumvent TRAI regulations on mass SMS. This they would do using short codes instead of actual phone numbers to mask the identity of the sender.

- They would accept payments only in cash to avoid paper trail to ensure that no connection is established between them and their client.

The portal alleged that an IT professional, Bipin Pathare, not only promised to give them a booth-wise demographics of voters to help them with booth management but also not hesitate to detonate a bomb, or spread rumours of a riot situation, forcing Muslim voters to remain indoors on polling day, thus leaving ample scope for bogus voting.

Bahal quoted Pathare as saying that he helped one Praveen Jara win election by intimidating and disenfranchising Muslim voters. Bahal also named Abhishek Kumar, who he claimed is working for Campaign Modi on social media, is planning to make a defamatory content on Rahul Gandhi to go viral on social media a few days before elections.

Priyadarshan Pathak, another online reputation management professional exposed in Operation Blue Virus, agreed to start a smear campaign against a fictitious company for Rs. 92000. The portal said the campaign included expletives, complete with cartoons and caricatures, and allegations, among others, of money laundering, allowing terrorist to use its equipment and defrauding its passengers in the name of charity.

Frequent Disconnection / ADSL blinking Issue on MTNL Broadband

Posted: 29 Nov 2013 03:12 AM PST

Hi,

I am a user of 849NU plan of MTNL Triband service since August based out of Navi Mumbai.

All of August, i was very happy to have a lovely connection and good speeds, with a pretty good tariff.
But now since the past 15 days I am suffering from very intermittent net connection.
Although I am connected to the internet, sometimes the webpages take ages to open, and never open, while at other times it opens instantly. Also downloading has the same pattern, sometimes I get very good speeds of upto 200 Kbps, while other times there is no download. Although all download sites show good Triband Speed, but it is the intermittent connection that is the problem.
This problem has crept up in the last 15 odd days, and I have tried everything but no change has been noticed.

Has anyone else faced a similar problem, and if yes, whats the work around. The people at MTNL classify this as a slow connection problem, but that is exactly not the issue, as I do get good speeds intermittently.

Somebody please help me.

Gigabit Router + Modem

Posted: 29 Nov 2013 03:11 AM PST

I'm planning to get a Gigabit Router and modem for my MTNL connection wanted to keep the modem and router seperate to avoid any disconnection so took this route , I'm looked around and since my love for Asus Router is on higher side i see Asus RT N15U and Asus RT N16U , and it seems RT15U is nothing but N13U with gigabit and great looks only concern for me being the vertical stand and connection LAN cables to it.RT N16 have DD WRT router but it seems a quite a old router now but still kicking ass against the older model , also there is TP Link WDR 4300 750 which i dont have much info on

For modem i see TP Link 8817 , DLink DSL-2520U or something else should i look for multiple Ethernet port in modem or just 1 would be ok ?

General Enquiry placed for Tata Docomo Broadband

Posted: 29 Nov 2013 02:57 AM PST

So, I requested a call back asking details of plans and feasibility in two close by locations including my current residence. Have got calls thrice, once they even promised to send sales executive but no one turned up. The other call said they will check feasibility at both locations and call back. The third one just took my details and said will call back.

All this is the past week or so. Lets see how this goes.

Broadband Speed Map

Posted: 29 Nov 2013 02:57 AM PST

I am running an experiment to map internet access speeds. Hopefully, this experiment will one day help people see the real speeds available in their area through crowdsourcing.

I would appreciate if you could take a few minutes to submit a speed test result, location and your broadband ISP / plan name. Every few days I shall farm the sumitted results onto a map like this http://goo.gl/hkxh2F

Submit your Speedtest.net result here: http://goo.gl/NlBzQm

===

  • Unfortunately I am unable to add any submission that does not include the speedtest result image link due to incomplete data. Apologies for this.
  • I am working on a mechanism to automate the submissions to the map directly so you can see your submissions on the map immediately. But this may take a while as I can do this only in my free time. Please bear with the slow pace of map updates till then.

MTNL Broadband VDSL2 User Experiences

Posted: 29 Nov 2013 02:51 AM PST

I wanted to start a new experience thread simply to discuss MTNL VDSL.

Some things to consider before/after taking a new VDSL connection

SNR margins (SNRM)
Below 9 dB : Poor experience with lots of HEC and CRC errors. Line will disconnect frequently.
9   - 11  dB : Ok but not ideal. Disconnections will be there if some unexpected variance is introduced by rains, humidity in the wire.
12 - 16  dB : Ideal and realistic value. Expect almost no disconnections as the line has more wiggle room for tolerating variances.
17 dB and up : God Mode. Lucky few get this on VDSL synced at 30 mbps and up. So far I have seen various stats and no one has reported this SNRM (That is because VDSL sync rates are always higher)

Higher you sync rate, lower the SNRM will be. Lower the SNRM, lower the connection reliability. Lower reliability means frequent disconnections. Hence ISP's have a setting in DSLAM to artificially increase SNRM value for a particular phone line. Hence you sync at lower rate and line automagically becomes stable.

Attenuation may not be that important after all. It reduces sync speeds over a distance but is not an indicator of connection reliability. (You can roughly calculate your line length from it. Do it here)

Apply for VDSL connection only if you are within half km. Otherwise you will get ADSL like sync rates.

I will update this entry with some of our findings. Since VDSL is somewhat new to India, this thread can help some early adopters.

Currently the speeds are decent for fast servers. But single streams are slow due to a bottleneck somewhere.

Dhoom 3

Sounds pretty stupid right? It is indeed.

very poor service from tata docomo

Posted: 29 Nov 2013 12:32 AM PST

my 2g plan (2gb of data for 50 rs) was revoked without prior intimation.
made offnet in the area where the docomo service exist and I used only 50 mb and they  charged me 756 .
They just boast of their low charges services but quality is worst than any other I can find. Wherever you go your networks fails and what worse get service get  offnet in the areas even where docomo service is available . Regarding data plan its is a serious joke "2g of data for 50 rs" but the service is so superfast that I'm not able to utilize even 100mb out of it. Regarding voice 222 for  48000 sec but seriously voice quality dumps its sucks ,just enter in a lift and whossssss no tower ,enter in ur room whosssssss voice quality drops. If you query for the unbilled amount continuous 7 day its shows the same bill and at 8th day the bill is skyrocketed lol u even can't keep the track of voice data used. And to add above they revoke plans and add their owns for their benefit and if we ask the reason u make fake non-ending story. And they call themselves the best service provider seriously.  :D

24 (Anil Kapoor Version)

Posted: 28 Nov 2013 10:40 PM PST

One of my best TV series of all time becoming desi!

Colors, Anil Kapoor ink deal to broadcast '24' in India > afaqs! news & features

Anil kapoor, please do some justice with Jack Bauer.

I also read something about cast: Chunky Pandey is in it :D

As for the cast and crew, Kapoor has promised the channel that there will be no known names on the show. However, word is that Ronit Roy, Atul Kulkarni, Chunky Pandey and Vidyut Jamwar will essay some of the lead roles. And, as we already know, Kapoor will play the main protagonist, anti-terror squad leader Jack Bauer, essayed by his favourite actor Keifer Sutherland in the original version. What's more? Abhinao Deo of Delhi Belly fame will direct the show. One wonders though, who will play the middle-eastern leader Omar Hassan, the role bagged by Kapoor in the American series...

Has Downfall For Google Begun ?

Posted: 28 Nov 2013 09:31 PM PST

The Google once i knew and loved is , imo no more. All i see is a big giant corporation sucking all the privacy it can from nearly all individual who are online.

The Fall has been amplified by the recent expose of the PRISM debacle.

With Recent move to make real name / real profile associated with your Google account to comment on youtube , things are not all rossy at google.

Here is another fine example of major f*** up by google , and even more appaling is how we all have started to accept the fact that there is no real support for such a big company. Even though most of the times its all automated , but many years ago , when i had issues with Adsense , it was as if talking to a empty space.

But apart from these , I am slowly loosing my confidence and trust on google , the way they have progressed and action they take.

Youtube without ABP is pure crap. I cant view 30 sec video without wathcing a 1 min ad , that too on HD , when my actual video i am supposed to watch doesnt run smoothly at 240p , even though its an isp issue , still Google should be aware of my bandwidth , when it is quick enough to change the video from 240p to 144p , me even without asking it , but fails to load a SD ad depending on my speed.

Gmail is full of ads again and it started to be listed right above emails too.

Picasa is dead and replaced with crap like G+ photo which is viewable for the elite who can have a decent 2mpbs connection.

Blogger imo is dead too , with region changing domains , i feel its more shifted towards easy censoring .

Google plus is crap and so is FB. May be i am just tired of all these social sites. May be its just me .

Apart from these , the main service , the actual search , imo has taken deep dive . The results are no more better. Most of the time it serves me out dated links (2008-2010) , and each time i have to specify to link to 2012-2013 to get more precise results. With all the MPAA/RIAA/other take down request , i am not sure whether the result i am seeing is even the best ones.

You cant use Google without using good userscripts (googlifix) to enable all the hidden features , which were once easily available.

Android is whole lot different , with Google play/market imo is fuc*** up , with most of the space wasted on movies and books and no real way to show only apps. Still the search on Play is ancient and no real way to filter them.

With recent 4.4 KK , and recent issue on how you cant have access to Battery info , i dont know where this is all leading. Even though a lot has been optimized and became effecient , android is again pushing one to use its services .

May its all because of PRISM , i have lost all trust on google and each day all i see if they grabbing all the possible information on everyone , to either serve the ads or to nsa or whatever. There is also a general dislike slowly growing towards google.

Volvo agrees to bus safety changes

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chennai/Volvo-meets-Tamil-Nadu-officials-agrees-to-bus-safety-changes/articleshow/26542675.cms

The state government requested senior Volvo officials to make certain alterations to enhance safety. Transport authorities and operators raised questions about the safety of the company's vehicles after 52 people died in two accidents involving Volvo buses just 15 days apart.

Tamil Nadu was the first state to ask bus manufacturers to incorporate changes in the design of their vehicles and include new features to increase safety. Volvo officials said they had received suggestions from other states too and would implement changes if they are practicable.
