I can only connect to internet 2-3 times a day and Internet wont stay connected for more than 10-20 minutes.I have a Huawei smartax at880 modem which worked fine with my previous airtel connection.
Mtnl customer support is worst so I have to ask for help here. The problem is that when the "link" light on my modem stays red and never goes green most of the time.

Online streaming is not smooth on Reliance Broadband Posted: 08 Sep 2013 03:16 AM PDT Hello,
I apologize if this topic is already discussed.
Installed reliance broadband 2days back, 2Mbps pack.
I get proper speed while torrent download, once i got 10Mbps for a torrent (downloaded a movie-700MB in 34mins.)
Youtube works fine. Can watch 480p videos without any issue.
But when it comes to online streaming (other than youtube), its not at all smooth. Video keeps stuttering all the time, for all video qualities 240,360,480 As i have not disconnected my previous internet connection (BSNL 512kbps ) yet, i tried streaming there. Its smooth for 240p.
Please help me with this.
Is there any software that can help me use the full bandwidth while surfing?
Regards. |

Posted: 08 Sep 2013 02:57 AM PDT KBC makers on the hot seat, fined Rs 1 cr New Delhi: Arguably the most successful game show in Indian television Kaun Banega Crorepati was on Thursday adjudged unfair in certain aspects by the National Consumer Commission which imposed a fine of Rs 1 crore on broadcaster Star TV and the sponsor Airtel. "Star Plus TV and Bharti Airtel Limited are held to have violated the provisions of Consumer Protection Act in conducting the 'Har Seat Hot Seat' (HSHS) contest which was in conjunction with the main television show Kaun Banega Crorepati and thereby adopted unfair trade practice," the Commission presided by Justice M B Shah said. The Commission, also comprising members Rajyalakshmi Rao and Anupam Dasgupta, held that in 52 episodes of KBC-3 the telecom company and the channel made a profit of Rs 8.12 crore out of the SMSes sent by viewers to participate in the contest. "Considering the large amount of profit earned and large number of consumers affected, this would be a fit case for imposing punitive damage of Rs 1 crore," it said. Popular TV game show KBC, hosted by Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan between January 22 to April 19, 2007, was sponsored by Airtel. |

TIKONA PATHETIC CONNECTION AND CUSTOMER SERVICE – FEEL CHEATED Posted: 08 Sep 2013 01:48 AM PDT Hi,
I am a Tikona WiBro internet user (User ID – 1108912680) since last one month (Aug 2013) at Ramamurthynagar, Banglore with a plan of ADULM2048 having paid Rs.3100/- with all useless installation charge etc. I have been introduced to a pathetic internet and customer service a person can dream off through this stupid service.
I must have raised up to 15-20 complaints for the last one month (which was my first month since the installation) ranging from internet speed to internet disconnection problems.
THINK BEFORE TAKING A TIKONA CONNECTION BECAUSE OF THE FOLLOWING REASON, I EARNESTLY REQUEST YOU TO AVOID THIS FAKE CONNECTION
1. First of all after paying the money to get the internet connection, the technician took his sweet own time of 4-5 days to come and install the connection.
2. Whenever there is a problem with their internet connection, we will have to wait for more than 8-10 minutes to get connected to their toll free customer care service online (1-800 209 4276). After 5 mins of waiting to get connect to the customer care the auto voice keeps repeating that it will connect you within 1 min and goes on and on for more than 10 min to connect you to a customer representative.
3. It also encourages you to call on their STD number (022-61749700) for faster service which also takes the same time (8-10 min) to connect to their customer representative. I wonder who will be paying for STD charges for all the waiting time (10 min) to get connected to their customer representative. And imagine if we have to call them for every 3-4 days with new internet problems each time like mine.
4. Once you are connected to their customer representative he will act to resolve the issue online. He will ask you to wait for more than 3 hrs so that he will try to fix it online from his side. But even after 1 day or more, your issue will not be resolved or neither will they bother to call you. So no internet for that day and no follow up from them on the issue. This shows how junk is their services.
5. Many of the times they give excuses as With regards to your concern, our team member tried to reach you on your registered number but it was not reachable. Really bullshit, when my other callers are able to reach me how is that only Tikona is not able to call me back. How many times have they tried to connect to me?
6. Also, whenever I raised a complaint I was told by their customer representatives that I would get a SMS with the complaint details. Till today I never received any such SMSs from them.
7. Now the next problem is their technicians, who will take more than 1 -2 days to come to your place to fix it. He will come on his own time and priority. Their technicians are ill equipped and don't know how to resolve the issue properly. More than 4 -5 technicians must have visited to my place for more than 9 -10 times to fix various issues within the first month of the installation.
8. One of their technicians told me directly that they get paid for each complaint and visit. Hence they don't fix the issue permanently to get benefit of getting paid for each visit. I did mention about the problem of technicians to the online customer care representative who did not bother much and just told he would escalate this issue. But believe me nothing happened with respect to the technician even after raising such a concern with them and escalation. I came to know that it is all just fake assurance. NO ONE IN THEIR GROUP IS READY TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST FAULTY INDIVIDUALS (TECHNICIANS OR CUSTOMER CARE REPRESENTATIVES).
9. For the last one month I must have used their internet connection for 10 days or less effectively. Most of the time it was not working at all or the complaints were pending to be resolved.
10. I have currently requested them to uninstall their idiotic connection, for the following reason which was really extreme. I had raised a complaint (complaint id – 1-2775463813) for installation of longer cable and for internet not working at my place on 31st August 2013. None of their Technicians turned up till date (08-Aug-2013). Imagine no resolution of the issue for almost 1 week. Whenever I called their customer care for almost five times on 07 & 08 Aug 2013, each time they would say that they would escalate the issue and they would call back. Neither the issue was resolved nor a fool visited from their side to correct it.
Now I am just hoping that they will reimburse all my hard earned money that I had paid for their useless and pathetic internet and customer service. |
Posted: 08 Sep 2013 01:25 AM PDT Monitor not required. Also No UPS. No Audio stuff. Pretty much for everything else will require suggestions.
Usage : Moderate, plus the intention is to be a bit future proof (atleast 3 years, if not more). Basic moderate games should work functionally, no need of high-end gaming.
Budget : 30K - Not a strict one, but dont want to throw money unless needed.

Hathway HD (Bangalore) New connection process- Confused providers - Hathway & LCO Posted: 07 Sep 2013 10:46 PM PDT I recently bought a LG LED TV. The plan was to take a good HD connection to enjoy the TV in full. After reading through various forums, including this one - I finally decided that I would go for Hathway HD. I already own the Hathway SD Digital connection via my Local Cable Operator (in Byrasandra, C V Raman Nagar) - so assumed this would be a cake walk. However it proved to be anything but! First I contacted the LCO and he stated that they will provision the HD connection, but I had to purchase the STB from the Hathway office in Halasuru. I spoke to these guys and they confirmed that they can sell me a STB if I pay them 6.2K in cash. I agreed and promised to come down the next day. The following day (today), I called them again and confirmed that I am coming to buy the STB and they said 'come over'. I reached the place (which looked like a shady basement of an apartment, with a backdoor entrance) and told the guy on the counter that I was there to buy the HD box. His reply was that they are out of stock and have no STB for sales at the moment. I told him that I called them barely 30 minutes back about this and was asked to come. The guy pretended to have nothing to do about it. But he was helpful enough to refer me to the Indiranagar office, where he said they currently have stock. Once bitten, twice shy! I took the number of the Indiranagar office from him and promptly called them. The first question I asked them was if they have the stock of HD STB (I didnt want to drive over to their office and then be told they are out of stock). To my puzzlement, he flatly refused to answer and said that they dont sell STB to customers directly. And that my LCO has to procure the STB from them and complete the installation. When I told him the two different experiences I had from LCO & Hathway Halasuru office, he just said that he cant do much about it and he is just following the process he has been told to follow. I gave him a verbal bashing (the mild kind) which included the joys of the customer having to run from pillar to post to get a connection and having to hear a totally new process at every turn. He knew that I had a point and backed down on his stand. He asked me to come with 6.2K cash along with address proof and he will sell the STB. However, he also said that my LCO needs to contact his manager to confirm that I need this (ahem!) By this stage, I was feeling like I was in a Govt office trying get some work done. I thanked the guy and called my LCO. His turn to hear the bashing (again, mild one - I have to continue to have my connection active afterall ). The LCO promised a call back after he checks this situation. I didn't have much hope. To my surprise, the LCO called me back promptly in 10 minutes and mentioned that he will get my STB procured and setup, just that I need to pay him 200 bucks extra. However, since they are out of stock at the moment, he wanted 3 - 4 days time to get this done. I was only too happy to agree - rather than burning petrol (at the price it sells today), I agreed to pay the 200 bucks and be done with it. Now, the wait begins. I once again am not confident that the STB stock would come in 3 - 4 days (coincidentally, when I took the SD connection, I had to wait for more than a week as Hathway was out of stock of STB). But I am hoping I will be proved wrong and the STB comes quickly - and I can start enjoying the HD. Update on 17th Sept: Weekend arrived, but no HD yet. Frustrated, I called my LCO and he says that he didnt do anything since I promised to get the set top box myself. I had to take him through my entire struggle once again and tell him that his office had promised delivery/setup in 3 days. He said he will check and call back. In the interim, I called the Indiranagar office again (got the same guy who I spoke/bashed the other day) and told them situation. He asked me to get the LCO to call him - I relayed this back to the LCO. LCO called back in about 30 mins. He asked me to submit an Address proof and Rs. 6400 in his office and that he will get the connection done by evening. So I parted with these two and started counting down the time to evening. At around 7 PM, the LCO called and informed that he had been in the Indiranagar office for the past 3 hours, but due to some server issue they are unable to activate my STB/Smart card. They promised that they would do it the next day. However, since the next day was a Sunday, I wasnt so confident and told them the same. However, they promised to do it by morning and even gave me a contact number whom I can chase for status. The next morning, no one arrived as promised and so I called the guy whose number was given. He was totally clueless and told me that he didnt even belong to the HD dept, but worked for the Internet side of Hathway. Here we go again! Finally, at around 1 PM afternoon, the LCO came in with the STB and set it up. He spoke to some one in Hathway and had them enable the STB/Smartcard and - THERE - the HD channels on my new TV ![]() Once the LCO had gone, I sat back and started reviewing the channels! Like some one else told me - the wait was worth it! No doubt. The HD channels were awesome, especially Star Cricket, ESPN, Ten HD and Star Movies. The others were good too, but I found these to be the best. However, I have a small niggle - every 10 mins or so, the picture freezes for a few seconds (2 - 3 secs max) and then resumes. This is not too bothersome, but still a blip in the otherwise TOO GOOD reception. I have spoken to the LCO and asked him to check this - hoping that it will get addressed. Other users of Hathway HD - please let me know if any of you have the freezing problem like mine. Overall rating of the HD channels: 9/10 ![]() *Jeash* |

Battery drain after updating to 4.3 (nexus 7 wifi 2012) Posted: 07 Sep 2013 10:38 PM PDT Yesterday I updated my nexus 7 wifi to 4.3 and did a full tablet reset. But now the battery drains much faster and It took just 2 hours to go from 100% to 10% after heavy usage.
Even when not used, It drains around 5% in half an hour. Earlier I used to get much better backup but now It got worse. Seems like display is using around 77% battery even when the brightness is set to least possible setting and and with daydream turned off. |

An appeal to Indian voters for 2014 election Posted: 07 Sep 2013 10:23 PM PDT Indian public has been badly letdown by corrupt political leaders. Hopelessness and sense of being knocked down is natural outcome of widely prevailing corruption. It is time to accept the reality of corruption and do our best. In the scenario when no political party is free of corruption, I appeal to voters to judge the party which is less corrupt and bring it to power. If we are successful in bringing to power a party which is even 10% less corrupt than other, we will be making our country richer by billions of rupees. This act would be as charitable as donating blood and more charitable than donating millions of rupees to the country. So although badly knocked down , it is for you to stand up and fight. Nobody else will. With regards, (B.J. Gupta) |
Posted: 07 Sep 2013 09:19 PM PDT I had two BSNL broadband connections, one of which dated back to 2004-5. Since last two years one of my connection was giving problem during rainy season, during rains it used to frequently disconnect and my complaint to them met deaf ears. Once a pro BSNL customer, I finally decided to get rid of them and shift to airtel, I applied for surrender of both my connections and two new connections from airtel. Got the airtel connection the very next day, where BSNL took 10 days and various visits to get one of my connection disconnected, while they refuse to disconnect another one on the pre-text that they need the modem they had provided me to be returned. The modem in question was given to me in 2010 upon opting for 1yr committed period ( I had disconnected my line for a year in 2009, so it was kind of new connection in 2010), their service record shows "FREE" modem, and they saying that I need to return them the "FREE" modem. Hilarious, I know, I went and spoke to the DE who is not willing to listen, spoke to the CO, who says she cant do anything and I need to speak to the DE, at the end frustrated I was, I requested the CO to charge me for the modem in the next bill but at least disconnect the broadband. She says she will try to speak to the DE and get it charged in the next bill and let me know. They don't even understand the meaning of "FREE".
Finally, good riddance ! (provided they disconnect by charging me for the modem Rs 1000/-) |

In India, if you are less than 18 years old... Posted: 07 Sep 2013 11:07 AM PDT A very serious thought came into my mind last night. I thought I might share it with you guys. In India, if you are less than 18 years old, then you can- 1) rape women 2) kill people 3) do burglary 4) do many crimes And, get away with max 3 years sentence. This is very serious issue. The so called juvenile in delhi gangrape case, despite proven guilty and was told to be the most vicious in that rape got away with just 3 years sentence. He was 17 years and 6 months old while he commited that crime. 17 & half years old committing such heinous crime, should be given death penalty. The law is so outdated and static. Now, in mumbai gangrape case, one accused said he was minor giving his leaving certificate as a proof. I don't know if they really do bone check for determining the age. I really don't trust the machinery in India. But, he could also get away swiftly. So, point I'm trying to make here is, If you are less than 18 years old in India, you can do whatever, and get away very easily. What are your thoughts.... |
