Hard Disk probably on the verge of crashing

Posted: 05 Sep 2013 02:52 AM PDT

Posted Image Posted Image

So, my media player app was playing video with jerky action. Vuze refused to download a torrent saying file read write access error. Windows' own drive diagnostic did not show any issues with the hard drive. Seagate's SeaTools show this error message.

Is the hard disk really in the process of dying? What more checks can I do?

Also of course, what are the good drives to purchase today? preferably 2 or 3TB capacities.

Like always, we now have the rumors on the upcoming movie Dhoom 2. Apparently, it still features John Abraham. In simple words, Hrithik Roshan is actually John Abraham in disguise. He is wearing a mask throughout the movie.

Sounds pretty stupid right? It is indeed.

ACT broadband Bangalore worst service

Posted: 05 Sep 2013 02:12 AM PDT

I am a customer of ACT broadband for last six months, i opted for 15 Mbps 40 GB plan, from 1st of this month i started experiencing .38-.44 mbps speed, i lodged a complaint and the feedback i received are really funny

1. I utilised 40 GB in four hours of previous day , i don't know whether that is possible by anyone to use- No auto updates are on and i requested them, which website or to which ip the system was connected and used this ? No reply from them

2. Then the customer service executive told, i might have used a router without password, the funniest part is There is no router at my home and i connect the cable directly to one PC

3. I also heard similar issue from my friends, ACT is not a reliable service provider, This is the problem with the unknown brands, you get a grievance redressal .

I DON'T SUGGEST "ACT BROADBAND" IN BANGALORE FOR ANY ONE LOOKING FOR A NEW BROADBAND CONNECTION

Thanks,

Ashok

Some Queries About Legal Actions Against Reliance.

Posted: 05 Sep 2013 01:04 AM PDT

Hello Guys,
I would like to ask you guys some questions
First, here is my situation:
I am a Reliance broadband user - 2 MBPS Postpaid. I am regular with my bills and all. From March-13 I am getting High Pings and low speed during the day time. I am a gamer, who plays battlefield 3, in tournaments and all. Reliance has made my life hell. I cant perform in any of the games. To give you guys what I feel, here is a link to my LAGGY Experience with Relaince.

Every time I call them, they give me a new date. They say that it will be fixed by then. But it never does. I am still have this problem.

Here is a list of problems that I face during 11 AM to 9PM
1) high latency.. to indian IPs. I get around 250 ping to google.com
2) heavy packet loss. around 50% sometimes.
3) low speed. Going down to 256 KBPS.
4) irregularity among receiving packets - one packets come in random order. Which is certainly not desirable when playing games.

I would like to inquire about a few things here...
1) Can I drag reliance to consumer court? Demanding refund? i.e. I pay for 2MBPS 24x7. But i dont get it... I am not aware of all the rules here. Can this thing turn around and bite me in the ass?
2) Any one else facing this problem? Are there any methods to solve this?

Fast & Furious 7

Posted: 05 Sep 2013 01:00 AM PDT

OMG I'm waiting for this movie.

Around the time when Fast Five was hitting the home video market, reports surfaced about the next franchise installments, with rumors indicating that Jason Statham may be the next high profile star to join the franchise.

As it turned out, Brit actor Luke Evans nabbed the role Statham was thought to take initially and Fast & Furious 6 was shot by itself. According to today's big scoop from AICN, much of that initial plan may actually hold true.

According to their sources, at the end of Fast & Furious 6, when Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker)'s team of stunt drivers successfully help out Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) in taking down Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) in exchange for their freedom, there's an additional scene that leads into Fast & Furious 7.

It may end up being a post-credits sequence much like the tease of Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) returning in the Fast Five button, but this one starts with an inside-car view of someone's hands on a steering wheel of a parked car, with Japanese voices coming though a police scanner in the vehicle. An external shot reveal it to be a custom reinforced Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The scanner asks for all units to respond to a car chase between a black and orange Mazda RX-7 and a grey Nissan 350Z, and so the Mercedes books it in pursuit. We still don't see the driver but the Mercedes is running parallel on another street to the high-speeding Mazda and Nissan, before cutting left, onto the same road, and sideswiping the Mazda, flipping it as a result, with practically no damage to the Mercedes.

The mystery Mercedes stops and out steps… Jason Statham, as Ian Shaw, brother to Luke Evans' character. He walks up to the flipped over Mazda RX-7 and in it sits Han Seul-Oh (Sung Kang). That's right. The franchise has come full circle and merged with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, director Justin Lin's first entry into the series (he's directed every installment since).

Mind blown? FYI, this isn't Jensen Ames Statham from Death Race or Frank Martin Statham from the Transporter series or Handsome Rob Statham from The Italian Job, this is Ian Shaw Statham from Fast & Furious, typecast car skills included.

We can therefore assume the grey Nissan is The Drift King Takashi's (Brian Tee) ride. Will Lucas Black return to the franchise as Sean Boswell? Hit me up on Twitter @rob_keyes and let me know if you dig this idea.

OS X Lion & BSNL 3G Data stick (Teracom LW273) issues

Posted: 05 Sep 2013 12:50 AM PDT

Hi Guys,

I have a BSNL 3G USB Datastick (Teracom LW273). They had a Mac OS X Snow Leopard version of the dialer which worked fine.

I recently installed OS X Lion & the dialer doesn't work anymore. I have uninstalled & reinstalled the dialer several times to no avail.

How can I get the dialer to work under Lion? Is there a Lion compatible dialer version out there? Does Teracom have a website or contact information anywhere?

Thanks!

MS staff

There was a pilot flying a small single engine charter plane, with a couple of very important executives on board. He was coming into Seattle airport through thick fog with less than 10m visibility when his instruments went out. So he began circling around looking for landmark. After an hour or so, he starts running pretty low on fuel and the passengers are getting very nervous. Finally, a small opening in the fog appears and he sees a tall building with one guy working alone on the fifth floor. The pilot banks the plane around, rolls down the window and shouts to the guy "Hey! Where am I?" To this, the solitary office worker replies "You're in a plane." The pilot rolls up the window, executes a 275 degree turn and proceeds to execute a perfect blind landing on the runway of the airport 5 miles away. Just as the plane stops, so does the engine as the fuel has run out.

The passengers are amazed and one asks how he did it. "Simple" replies the pilot, "I asked the guy in that building a simple question. The answer he gave me was 100 percent correct but absolutely useless, therefore that must be Microsoft's support office and from there the airport is just a while away."

Is Windows a virus?

No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do:
They replicate quickly Okay, Windows does that

Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so okay, Windows does that

Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk Okay, Windows does that, too

Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems Sigh... Windows does that, too

Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware Yup, that's with Windows, too

Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature

So, Windows is *not* a virus

Tikona Broadband User Experiences

Posted: 05 Sep 2013 12:20 AM PDT

Thought I would start another thread for people who have actually used this service to describe their experience.

They have started advertising quite heavily in Bombay and their plans seem pretty decent. Their 600kbps UL plan would be excellent for me.

I really like the way they have bill limits for their limited plans as well. That shows they understand consumer concerns about enormous bills and have designed their plans to allay them.

So how good is their service? Any down time? How quickly do they respond to complaints? Really any information from people who have used Tikona would be appreciated.

Apparently the gamepad accessory for the Galaxy S4 support devices as large as 6.3 inches. So, the rumor in the market is that Note3 might feature a display as large. lol.

I think they should have added support for 8" devices so that the recently launched Note 8.0 would have worked with this!

How to share Wired Broadband connection?

Posted: 04 Sep 2013 10:42 PM PDT

I have a local wired broadband 1MBPS connection. Currently I am accessing Internet on one laptop using RJ 45 LAN cable. It had a static IPV4 assigned to it. I have a ADSL switch (which I had when I was using BSNL broadband). I want to share my current wired broadband connection with more than one computer with wired and wirelessly using that ADSL switch. How do I do that?

Reliance WLL Phone instrument issues

I have a lifetime prepaid reliance WLL phone. Been using it for about 6 years now. The instrument gives a lot of problem and on complaint they come and replace with another faulty piece. As a result the past 3 years I've practically not used it at all. The instrument I have at the moment, ringer doesn't work, battery dies in a minute, speaker phone doesn't work.
Anyone know how to get a new instrument that I can use as a replacement?

The Joss Whedon drama based on the Marvel Comics property has landed a series order at the Disney-owned network, ABC announced Friday.

The ABC Studios project is based on Marvel Comics' secret intelligence organization that has appeared in countless titles, including Iron Man, Captain America and The Ultimates, since being introduced in the 1960s. The military law-enforcement agency's moniker stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistic Directorate, which also has evolved over time in the comics.

ER's Ming-Na stars as Agent Melinda May, The Avengers' Clark Gregg reprises his role as Agent Phil Coulson, Killing Lincoln's Brett Dalton is set as gruff rising star Agent Grant Ward, Elizabeth Henstridge as science whiz Agent Gemma Simmons and Iain DeCaestecker as tech guru Agent Leo Fitz, with Nashville's Chloe Bennet set as Skye, a superhero-obsessed woman.

Airtel Corporate plan changes - No more A2O free

Posted: 04 Sep 2013 06:56 PM PDT

So, I just got a message that Airtel no longer has minutes to other mobiles free on my corporate connection, only A2A instead of A2M/A2O (other mobiles) & also SMSes are charged. Customer care said new plans are coming and you can wait for a while (2-3 days in their words) and choose. I personally am tempted to dump Airtel. But before I do, would like feedback on which other provider is better in Chennai.

No need of 3G. So non-3G providers are also fine. Low-cost and good coverage are what I am looking at. Was paying 149+tax for 300 A2M & around 150-200 SMS you can say (which I use around 50-60%).

Also, I feel others will join the bandwagon.. So thinking if should hold on to Craptel.

P.S - For dumping, I will switch to prepaid Airtel & then move out as that seems as easier process for MNP
