Posted: 27 Jul 2013 03:23 AM PDT Hello Everybody
I always have an opinion that we should not invest considerable money in Google Android based mobile phones if it is not the top end mobile phone. Buying Google Nexus based mobile phones would protect our investment for some period of time. As daily new mobile phones from Indian Companies or foreign companies are being released.
So, i always would keep an eye on India based Android brands. As I have seen many mid-range android mobile phones from prominent brands too sucks. But, people around me would always advise me to resist Android mobile phones developed or sold by Indian companies. Previously, india based android mobile phones would small battery to easily deem it as inferior. But nowadays only differentiation for India based android mobile phones are the processor being used, which is always would be based on MTK.
Are all in-expensive android mobile phones sold by Indian Companies are that much inferior or short-lived ? Are all mobile phones sold by Indian companies are Chinese re-branded models ? I invite members who use Android mobile phones sold by Indian companies to give their insights, |
Excellent and Unexpected Service From Mtnl Mumbai Posted: 27 Jul 2013 03:21 AM PDT Hi,
I have been a MTNL mumbai user since long back when they had the 4500 unlimited plan.
After that, i migrated to the Rs.2500 100 Gb plan.
Usually never needed any support except once when i needed a Sim change and that was handled pretty fast the CSC.
Just wanted to let users know about my current experience.
So, I use the Sim in Mumbai, Pune and Currently have just Moved onto Bangalore where i am using my MTNL mumbai sim on Roaming for Data Only.
Since moving to bangalore, was facing a severe speed issue and speeds never crossed 50 kbps (the kbps is correct) which from my understanding, was slower that my vodafone 2g which i use on Mobile (unfortunately, vodafone does not have 3g in Karnataka).
After filing 2-3 complaints and getting pissed off, i finally wrote a email explaining my problem in details, providing my contact number and all relevant information and emailed to a few emails ids i found. i will not post them here but they are available on the MTNL mumbai website for all.(if someone is not able to find it and has tried all other resolution mechanisms, let me know and i will provide it)
This i sent at around 11 Am 23rd July 2014 (yesterday)
Now the magic started happening. Within ~30 mins get a call from MTNL Mumbai clarifying my problem and asking locations details of where exactly i am and so on. This was followed up by an Email confirming that the problem is under resolution and both MTNL and BSNL(since karnataka is BSNL) officials have been informed and that i should be getting multiple calls from different locations soon and continuous followup happening.
Next, around 3 Pm, someone from MTNL mumbai called me saying that we have not found any problems with the MTNL network in Mumbai and the problem lies somewhere else and we can only check once i come back to mumbai. she did not seem to know i was not in mumbai but in bangalore (maybe this person was not informed )
next around 15 mins after that, i get another call confirming the same as above and updating me that BSNL has been informed and they are continuously following up on this and will keep me updated. They also mentioned that they are sharing my contact details with BSNL and i should expect a call soon.
around 5 Pm, i get a call from BSNL asking me mylocation details, where i am using and so on.
Now, Today, around 11 Am, i get a call from MTNL mumbai asking me when is the best time to call me and put me on conference with a team from BSNL (was shocked that they actually care about mytime preference)
Now, i get a call from MTNL and then they put me in conference with a guy from ZTE - BSNL which i think handles their network in Karnataka.
Did not need to explain anything else and the guy from BSNL just asked me to connect to internet and check the speed and he is doing the same from his end (something like adding my number on his monitor or something).
Seeing vast improvement in speed. Youtube videos playing perfectly.
In the past 1 hour, i have already received 3 confirmation calls(from the same guy from MTNL) for the speed issue, explaining me the issue and apologizing and providing direct contact details of the person from BSNL and asking me to call him directly for any issues i face in future.
Sorry for the Long post but this kind of a service given by MTNL was worth the post.
btw, currently getting 2 mbps in Bangalore on 3G

Tata Sky DTH migrating to MPEG4; Will exchange MPEG2 STBs free of cost! Posted: 27 Jul 2013 02:52 AM PDT We are replacing close to 5-6 million MPEG-2 SD STBs at no cost to consumers over the next year. All of this is coming in from internal accruals.
But you need to wait for one more year to see many new channels
We have been adding channels in a phased manner; the process will now be accelerated with the MPEG-4 STB. By June-July next year we should be able to revise our channel offerings to consumers,

Airtel 4G LTE speeds are now restricted at 10mbps in all circles Posted: 27 Jul 2013 02:41 AM PDT I am from Pune. Had two demos in last two days (25 and 26 June 2013). Must admit the sales guys were very cooperative. Scanned my entire apartment, only 2 bars in gallery and a window but still was getting 10 down 5 up. Airtel guys said the range is a big problem, you have to be in 300 to 400 meter periphery from the tower. So we tried the speed tests on terrace too.
Now, this is where it gets interesting. On terrace (of our 8 floor building), the single was full. I was expecting significant speed improvements. But to my astonishment they were still stuck on 10 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up. No improvements on download speeds, even after single improvement from 2 bars to full 5 bars? Occasionally we hit 12 Mbps for a brief second, but that's it.
We tried downloads from different sites, same story. System reboots, dongle reboots, same story.
It was a ZTE MF880 with MiMo support.
I can recall a demo some time early this year, where a Huawei E392 was cranking 33 down and 11 up in inorbit mall. Was very impressed back then.
So what's going on here? Even on full bars, I am not getting any speed improvements past 10Mbps down and 10Mbps up. Is it a device issue? ZTE MF880 supports only 67 down / 17 up, while Huawei E392 is 100 down / 50 up.
OR Airtel is throttling the bandwidth?
Anyone having a different experience? |

Pathetic experience of porting to Idea Posted: 27 Jul 2013 01:56 AM PDT I took two corporate connection to portout from Vodafone to Idea as my building was having coverage problem and after repeated complaint vodafone was not showing any progress on resolving netowkr coverage issue. So I started testing all other network like Airtel, Docomo, Aircel and Idea, I was found that Idea had best coverage for my building.
So I completed all formalities to port in to Idea and waited till 7th day and kept checking porting status at mnpindia.in, but even on 7th day I never received any SMS to intimate the time of porting. I tried calling Idea MNP Toll free number almost 10 time through out the day but you will never get customer rep to speak to you, they will first play the stupid music " idea hai .......... etc " and then you will be told that all execs are busy and dial 12345 to speak to Idea customer care, wtf how can new customer who dont have idea connection can dial 12345.
And then at 11.00PM, our both Vodafone SIM started giving SIM registration failed so I inserted Idea SIM, and the horror started now............ Idea SIM also giving registration failed message. I thought, it waste of time and decided to sleep. In the morning, SIM were active but now I was unable to make any call or receive call. When I was dialing any number even their customer care, I was getting that you dont have this service available, contact customer care and when I tried to dial from other number to these number, "services to the number are on hold."
Here again, I tried to contact the customer care by checking the Idea web site, after trying for multiple times, some how I got connected to customer care but these morons have no idea about the MNP. They kept telling the process to port out, I spoke to almost 10 different people but every body was telling me some thing or other thing but they were not able to understand my problem. The most pathetic thing was these people cant speak English and I cant understand Telugu, one hour gone and my patience was running thin.
Then I decided to speak to guy who sits in my office to know what the hell is going on... I went to the office and asked for him, guy was not available and had to wait for him. Somehow I met after lunch and told the entire ordeal, he asked two questions only, do you have bars on your phone and have you dialed "59059" for self address verification?
and I was like what the helllllllllllllllllllll....................... why have you not written this on your MNP Kit or on your web site that you need to dial 59059 for self verification to activate the POST PAID number even after they have done physical verification of my residence and office. I was literally out of control for that minute and kept shouting on him, That idea guy said sorry for many times but end of story is that it took only 2 minutes for both number to activate but these morons could have listed the process on thier web site or MNP kit but I was unable to locate any such any where.
After 90 days, I will make sure to go back to Vodafone if they improve the signals as they promised ................ now I understand why Idea has been always trading below 150 Rs for last 5 years. Companies like this will never grow, and we can see the Airtel now as well who is also loosing on prices. Just having good infrastructure and good advertisement cant keep you profitable but you need to serve your customer well also. |
Posted: 27 Jul 2013 01:54 AM PDT I had a thought that Vodafone being one of largest telecom enterprise will be providing nice services, at least in the state capital. But from the beining i am having problem with vodafone's frequent call drops. Their high call rates would be bearable if the call drops get minimal. May any one suggest me service provider with reasonable competive call rate (without any RC) at Delhi ? |
ACT Broadband Bangalore Reviews Posted: 27 Jul 2013 01:48 AM PDT Hello Readers, My name is Vivek Sinha Anurag and i am going to post some "great" work shown by Act Broadband. I applied for ACT Broadband 5 Mbps plan [its having cap value of 35GB after that speed will reduce to 256 kbps] by calling their customer care on 16th Aug 2011. I was surprised to see their lightening fast response as the representative came to my doorstep the very next day and on 17th Aug 2011 Mr Ashitt O.S. collected the money and documents and told me that withing 5 days i will get my connection and i even got sms confirmation that my request no is 142263. Now the real story started. Even after 6 days no one ever bothered to check my request so i called customer care [ 080-42840000] to remind them and i was told that i will get it withing next 2 days. I waited for next 2 days and called them again. I was surprised to learn a new technical term from them that they are "Uploading network" hence its taking time and soon i will get my connection. Since my work was getting affected because of their delay i applied for a BSNL connection too. Now today is 5th September and i am still waiting for the connection and to my surprise i got the BSNL broadband last week. I tried escalating this matter and asked the customer care for any high level contact and they said that i need to mail helpdesk@acttv.in. I emailed them but i got no response. Please note some points regarding ACT broadband before applying ACT broadband 1. They dont have nodal officer/appellate authority [against TRAI rules and i have already escalated this matter to TRAI officials with the help of pgportal.gov.in] 2. They have a customer base of 2500 users in bangalore and they are not able to manage even this small number. 3. They DO NOT PROVIDE STATIC IP [even if they claim to do so] 4. Their customer care service is useless. All you will losse is your balance by talking to them 5. They can "Upload network" [You can imagine the understanding capability of their technicians] 6. They are fast in collecting money but lazy in delivering service Final conclusion: To be on safe side stay away from them else you will suffer like me. Morning shows the day and even before using their service i am suffering. Don't know what will happen when i get the connection and i face any problem that time. |

Posted: 26 Jul 2013 10:27 PM PDT google announces project loon, balloon powered internet access.
A ring of balloons, flying around the globe on the stratospheric winds provide Internet access to the earth below. The system uses balloons, carried by the wind at altitudes twice as high as commercial planes, to beam Internet access to the ground at speeds similar to today's 3G networks or faster. As a result, balloons could become an option for connecting rural, remote, and underserved areas, and for helping with communications after natural disasters.

Airtel chennai users,Some questions for you.. Posted: 26 Jul 2013 07:36 PM PDT Hi guys I'm thinking about shifting to airtel, Ive been a long time user of bsnl (for like 10 years now), now thinking of shifting. I'm thinking about taking the rapid 80gb plan (80gb, 8 mbps, 512 kbps after quota).
1) Do you really get the speed advertised? I've seen youtube videos of it, but is it really true? And how is the upload speed? I've heard 0.8mbps is the upload speed for most airtel plans. I'm currently stuck with 300kbps upload with bsnl, so this will be a massive boost.
2)How is the ping to singapore (and other servers like eu/us)? This is actually the most important part for me as I play a lot, dota/sc etc. Specifically If there are dota 2/lol players here what is your ping to the sea server? and could you do a tracert of sg.logon.battle.net. With bsnl I normally get anywhere between 40-90 ping to singapore, and 250 to the U.S, and 150-200 to EU. But off late I've been getting terrible pings (normally this is fixed by restarting your modem till you get a good ping..but it doesnt seem to be working). do you get the same low pings in airtel, or it higher?
3) Customer support: Now I know this is non existant in bsnl, so anything would be a huge improvement, but in bsnl I knew a lineman who could atleast get people to look at something at times (mostly connection down, line dead kinda issues). But airtel I'd have to rely on the phones. So is it worth anything at all?
4) blocked websites: Another thing that bsnl has started doing recently, a lot of filesharing and image hosting sites are blocked, I've heard airtel is pretty strict on this too. On bsnl I've gotten by using proxies, can you do the same on airtel?
So yeah, I've heard a lot of bad stuff about airtel, but also a lot of people tend to swear by it, so I'm really confused. |
Websites blocked on Airtel Broadband Posted: 26 Jul 2013 07:34 PM PDT Just post the domains (preferably with screenshots) that are blocked at your end. For discussions check this thread: http://broadbandforum.in/airtel-broadband/78515-airtel-broadband-blocking-torrents-and/ Vimeo based videos has been the most annoying block for me. Embedded videos shows the famous blocked message without any proper clarification. Website itself works because the block has been implemented on the domain that delivers the video content. http://vimeo.com/32001208 Idea is to have a clutter free thread with details on all the domains that are blocked on Airtel. |
Landline Not Working Properly When BB Cord Plugged In Posted: 26 Jul 2013 07:22 PM PDT I am facing a rather strange problem. I am using ZTE ADSL 831 Mode. My BB seems to working fine. But my landline is behaving strangely as long as the Modem's cord is plugged in splitter. I am able to make outgoing calls but I am not able to receive any incoming call. On being called there's just a faint crackling sound at the end of caller instead of the usual ringing. The landline doesn't rings at all. . However, the landline works fine if I remove the modem cord from the splitter. The BSNL linemen are completely clueless about the situation. Please help! |
