Airtel Broadband Freak Show #airtelbroadbandsucks

Posted: 31 Jan 2012 02:53 AM PST

I have tomato firmware running on my Wifi router which has bw accounting. So all my usage from PC,Laptop,Mobile & iPad are accounted centrally. When I hit 100% usage on my 75Gb plan, the router shows ~70GB for the past two months. So Airtel seems to be eating up 5Gb on my 75Gb plan.

Another point to note is, when you have a crappy last mile connection, the 80% usage redirection problem felt the most as the modem gets resets very often and they show this message when it connects.

chomemaniac, I thought you had an 'unlimited' connection without any FUP attached. How come now you are into this plan...

Tata DOCOMO CDMA: Photon + officially restricts P2P and other stuff now

Posted: 31 Jan 2012 02:48 AM PST

Ok. Now I got it. My browsing speed is good on Photon+, but if I try to download some file or try to update Windows, Anti-virus, or any software, it takes very long time. But it happens sometimes. Sometimes file download happened very fast as well.

Even Lumia 800 is not so great. Then why the hype for these phones?

Touch screen is gud. Display is not good.... Misleading.

Micro sim, no front cam, limited memory and all those factors you are pointing out are already known on the features list. If one is mad at those reasons then it means that the purchase was made blindly without going through the specifications and now you are blaming the phone since you are unhappy.

ACT Broadband Bangalore Review 100% True

Posted: 31 Jan 2012 02:20 AM PST

I stay at Banaswadi and have been an ACT BB subscriber since last week.

My experience :

1) Customer Service : Acceptable.
a) Time-To-Install: It took 7+ days though the whole process can be done in less than an hour's time.
b) Service Personel: The service executives for ACT cable or entirely independent from the BB service. I have been an ACT cable
subscriber for the past 5+ yrs and know a couple of service guys personally. But that does not help, since BB is serviced by
entirely different folks.
c) Portal Access: Current data usage is updated on a regular basis on the portal, so you pretty much keep track of your limits, at
least after you download a large video or have a lengthy skype video session etc. Be informed that the update is once per day
kind of, not real-time.

2) Performance: To date, the performance is EXCELLENT ! 10Mbps downlink and more importantly 10Mbps Uplink!!!
That's was indeed a remarkable improvement over BSNL.
Though I must confess that the Downlink performance of BSNL was acceptable & reliable and Uplink was constrained by ADSL
limits anyway.

3) Reliability: This will be the key aspect TO BE VALIDATED over the next 3 months.

PROS: Great Performance, reasonable cost, acceptable service.
CONS: The Network -- I HATE the cables loosely running over trees and huts and shops and what not... If the switch premises is not UPS enabled (I have the switch at my home and NO ups yet:-)), then you are out of luck too.
Compare it with the UG cabling with 48V DC always on telephone line which we are so used to.

While ACT would never be able to challenge BSNL on reliability, it is currently scoring big time over it on Price-Performance metrics and I am a happy man.
I have yet not cancelled my BSNL BB a/c, just in case this turns out to be a sour experience. At present I am VERY HAPPY with the service quality.

Router: Consider at least a 300Mbps capable router if you plan to or have a Wifi enabled TV to which you want to stream HD movies from your PC. My experience with my 54mbps Utstarcom for HD streaming has been horrible. So my next upgrade surely will be 300Mbps min.
You may consider (not a review, solely based on bandwidth capability):

a) TP-LINK TL-WR841N
b) D Link DIR-615 N Series etc.

(For the tech savvy) DD-WRT firmware is available for both of the above routers.

HTH,
regards,
rhari!

Tata Sky Plus HD DTH: Renewal of Annual Megalite Package: Cant access previous recordings

Posted: 31 Jan 2012 02:09 AM PST

This is not a new problem. Whenever they rearrange or form new packages, the recordings of old packages are blocked even if the new package contains the old channels. When I subscribed to the jumbo south package during earlier repacking, I lost all tamil recordings. despite a one month angry/conciliatory exchanges nothing came out.

It is better to confirm before you change packages.

How Many Words Do U Read a Minute?

Interesting, never took the trouble of measuring, but this says 500 - 550, so I guess it is somewhere around that.
