Microsoft acquiring Nokia (Devices and Services Divisions) Posted: 16 Apr 2014 03:27 AM PDT Confirmed now.    Nokia Corporation today announced that it has signed an agreement to enter into a transaction whereby Nokia will sell substantially all of its Devices & Services business and licence its patents to Microsoft for EUR 5.44 billion in cash, payable at closing. Nokia expects to book a gain on sale of approximately EUR 3.2 billion, and expects the transaction to be significantly accretive to earnings. Subject to the closing of the transaction, Microsoft will acquire substantially all of Nokia's Devices & Services business, including the Mobile Phones and Smart Devices business units as well as an industry-leading design team, operations including all Nokia Devices & Services production facilities, Devices & Services-related sales and marketing activities, and related support functions. At closing, approximately 32,000 people are expected to transfer to Microsoft, including approximately 4,700 people in Finland. Nokia's CTO (Chief Technology Office) organization and patent portfolio will remain within the Nokia Group. The operations that are planned to be transferred to Microsoft generated an estimated EUR 14.9 billion, or almost 50%, of Nokia's net sales for the full year 2012.  Additionally, Microsoft will become a strategic licensee of the HERE platform, and will separately pay Nokia for a four year license. This revenue stream is expected to substantially replace the revenue stream HERE is currently receiving from Nokia's Devices & Services business internally. MTNL Broadband is inserting Adphonso powered malware on all customer devices Posted: 16 Apr 2014 12:41 AM PDT I have MTNL ADSL broadband in Delhi. Today I saw this popup on the side when I connected online (I removed my telephone number from the image):     After looking for the inserted code, I discovered that MTNL is inserting iframes inside the webpages!   The popup is being loaded from http://www.adphonso.com/testmtnl.php?CSID=22221504@mtnl   (I changed the telephone number in the URL above) More scrips are inserted from MTNL address 203.94.243.40   The adphonso website belongs to an adversiting company and that is a big problem     Are you guys seeing this sort of popups too? If yes, do you think is it safe?   I think this way inserting codes inside webpages is not good for the privacy of users.

Condition of MTNL box in your society Posted: 15 Apr 2014 11:47 PM PDT Guys so frustrated with MTNL that I am starting a thread for MTNL box location in your society. I have uploaded this pic just now after several phone call to MTNL broadband guy, AM, SDO, GM & what not however no action is taken and broaband kepps coming anfd going off. This is the worst condition and water is dripping from top from a air conditioning duck. I am also going to sent an email with this pic to the mtnl so called babus so that they can see what the hell is going on in my society.   Airtel speed sucks and they have fup but atleast in my society they have a decent box installed with proper wiring.Here you can see the MTNL wiring and the box does not even has a close lid.   If you guys have the same or the worse scenario do share you experience with the pic.

One person familiar with the effort said the company has talked to wireless carriers about offering its phones, though it is expected to offer them directly to consumers through its website. A launch date also is unclear. Like its Kindle Fire tablet, an Amazon smartphone would be powered by a "forked" version of Android, which means that it uses the open-sourced version of Google's mobile-operating system but doesn't preload any Google apps.Amazon would have to find a way to make up for the cost of manufacturing — on average, $200 per smartphone — by steering device owners to shop for goods through Amazon.com and to purchase digital media and apps through its app store. Run away from You broadband in Velechery. 90% downtime. Posted: 15 Apr 2014 11:09 PM PDT Over the course of past two decades or so I have seen multiple broadband providers in Chennai but I guess You broadband takes the award for being the worst of the lost by far. Let me recount my experiences,   Since my BSNL was pretty slow (only 512Kbbps) , I decided to try out You broadband and booked it online and kept getting prompt calls from You broadband and i was pretty satisfied by level of enthusiasm to get a new broadband to give a new broadband connection and I took a 3 month plan with 155GB in FUP and this was two weeks ago. Little did I known what was in store for me,   a) Normally broadband does not work in the first week after connection but in my case , my broadband did not work in the first hour of connection itself with the network cable disconnected symbol. After calling multiple people and explaning , they finally said that the Ethernet repeater in a nearby flat was turned off and hence there was no connection and it will be proper from now.    Okay fine.    b ) This only 20 hours or so the Broadband worked. The very next day the broadband disconnected and I used to keep getting connection every one or two hours per day. Note not disconnection for one or two hours but connection for one or two hours :-) :-)   c) Called CC and all the people who installed and here is next next round of of torture starts. First all the people who installed my connection refused to take my call but they would pick up if I call from other numbers and give some lame excuse or act surprised. Customer care has these tree standard words to give,   " We apologize deeply". "We apologize very deeply" "We apologize even more deeply"   and after some 24 hours , I will get a SMS saying that issue is fixed and I had to call and re-new my complaint.   d) Off-late they don't close my complaint but keep it open and say the above statements.   e) Once I got a message saying that Cable is down and it will work via SMS but it never worked before (or) after :-)   I understand 10% downtime per day (even that is not acceptable) but I seem to have 90% downtime with no response and is just a waste of Rs:4000 which i paid. I could have just burned that money since it is all the same.   Hence for any one thinking of You broadband services in velechery , i have one advice. Run away (or) just take a one month connection so You can throw out You after one month (Pun intentional)
