Funny Videos, Images and Jokes Posted: 04 Mar 2014 01:51 AM PST MS staff There was a pilot flying a small single engine charter plane, with a couple of very important executives on board. He was coming into Seattle airport through thick fog with less than 10m visibility when his instruments went out. So he began circling around looking for landmark. After an hour or so, he starts running pretty low on fuel and the passengers are getting very nervous. Finally, a small opening in the fog appears and he sees a tall building with one guy working alone on the fifth floor. The pilot banks the plane around, rolls down the window and shouts to the guy "Hey! Where am I?" To this, the solitary office worker replies "You're in a plane." The pilot rolls up the window, executes a 275 degree turn and proceeds to execute a perfect blind landing on the runway of the airport 5 miles away. Just as the plane stops, so does the engine as the fuel has run out. The passengers are amazed and one asks how he did it. "Simple" replies the pilot, "I asked the guy in that building a simple question. The answer he gave me was 100 percent correct but absolutely useless, therefore that must be Microsoft's support office and from there the airport is just a while away." __________________________________________________________ Is Windows a virus? Weird issue I'm facing with BB Posted: 04 Mar 2014 12:03 AM PST Hello Today itself I've been facing this issue. I am unable to open any site on my PC whereas my laptop and mobile can connect to the WiFi. On top of that I can connect my account through steam on my PC and even download torrents through utorrent. Although guild wars 2 client doesn't connect to the servers. After frustrating 2 hours, I put the open DNS instead of the one the Mtnl people gave me and I could open all websites for a brief period of 5-10 minutes. Then the exact same thing happened. After that I reverted back to the DNS the Mtnl people gave me. My IP address: 192.168.1.9 Default gateway: 192.168.1.1 Preferred DNS server: 202.159.219.229 Alternate DNS server: 202.159.217.198 |

Posted: 03 Mar 2014 10:56 PM PST So... With all three HDDs failing, I guess it's time to plan for a new desktop instead of risking more hard disks failure.
So... This is what I want...
High quality cabinet High quality PSU A motherboard with USB 3 ports Mid-range processor 8GB RAM (I assume my existing sticks would work fine?) 1 SSD for OS with 1 large capacity drive for data (or 1 hybrid with 1 data drive) A low-end or mid-range GFX card that can support the display and has a decent fan!
This is what I have right now: |

16th Lok Sabha General Elections of India Posted: 03 Mar 2014 09:39 PM PST General Elections for electing 16th Loksabha members would happen in 1 year from now. It may even happen within 1 year as well if situation arises like current govt decides to call early elections or looses majority if coalition partners pull off support (which is less likely). So who could it be forming new govt? BJP or Congress? NDA or UPA? Narendra Modi or Rahul Gandhi? Sushma Swaraj or Manmohan Singh? Arun Jaitley or P. Chidambaram? What impact Arvind Kejriwal would have on these elections? And finally will any 3rd front succeed in forming govt at Centre? |

Airtel 4G LTE speeds are now restricted at 10mbps in all circles Posted: 03 Mar 2014 08:14 PM PST I am from Pune. Had two demos in last two days (25 and 26 June 2013). Must admit the sales guys were very cooperative. Scanned my entire apartment, only 2 bars in gallery and a window but still was getting 10 down 5 up. Airtel guys said the range is a big problem, you have to be in 300 to 400 meter periphery from the tower. So we tried the speed tests on terrace too.
Now, this is where it gets interesting. On terrace (of our 8 floor building), the single was full. I was expecting significant speed improvements. But to my astonishment they were still stuck on 10 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up. No improvements on download speeds, even after single improvement from 2 bars to full 5 bars? Occasionally we hit 12 Mbps for a brief second, but that's it.
We tried downloads from different sites, same story. System reboots, dongle reboots, same story.
It was a ZTE MF880 with MiMo support.
I can recall a demo some time early this year, where a Huawei E392 was cranking 33 down and 11 up in inorbit mall. Was very impressed back then.
So what's going on here? Even on full bars, I am not getting any speed improvements past 10Mbps down and 10Mbps up. Is it a device issue? ZTE MF880 supports only 67 down / 17 up, while Huawei E392 is 100 down / 50 up.
OR Airtel is throttling the bandwidth?
Anyone having a different experience? |

Hard Disk probably on the verge of crashing Posted: 03 Mar 2014 01:36 PM PST ![]() ![]() So, my media player app was playing video with jerky action. Vuze refused to download a torrent saying file read write access error. Windows' own drive diagnostic did not show any issues with the hard drive. Seagate's SeaTools show this error message. Is the hard disk really in the process of dying? What more checks can I do? Also of course, what are the good drives to purchase today? preferably 2 or 3TB capacities. |

MTNL Broadband VDSL2 User Experiences Posted: 03 Mar 2014 10:58 AM PST I wanted to start a new experience thread simply to discuss MTNL VDSL.
SNR margins (SNRM)
Higher you sync rate, lower the SNRM will be. Lower the SNRM, lower the connection reliability. Lower reliability means frequent disconnections. Hence ISP's have a setting in DSLAM to artificially increase SNRM value for a particular phone line. Hence you sync at lower rate and line automagically becomes stable.
Attenuation may not be that important after all. It reduces sync speeds over a distance but is not an indicator of connection reliability. (You can roughly calculate your line length from it. Do it here) Apply for VDSL connection only if you are within half km. Otherwise you will get ADSL like sync rates. I will update this entry with some of our findings. Since VDSL is somewhat new to India, this thread can help some early adopters.
Currently the speeds are decent for fast servers. But single streams are slow due to a bottleneck somewhere.
