Headphones

For myself. Budget? Flexible. Anything below 5K would be fine.

Requirement?

Wireless possible? Because I still work on a desktop. It does not have Bluetooth though.
If not wireless, need a long wire. 2 meters probably would be fine.

To be used for watching movies, television shows mostly. Would be nice if they can remove the noise around me. The problem is quite massive. I live in the corner house which means that there is a road besides the windows and f**king dogs keep on crying and barking all night long. And of course there is enough noise during the day time because of traffic.

Would prefer headphones coz do not like earphones much.

Headphones with microphone would also be very nice because it would help in Hangouts.

PS. I think I started a similar thread in the past but I did not bother to order. This time I think I really should get something for backup.

Comedy Nights With Kapil

Posted: 17 Feb 2014 02:04 AM PST

I wonder why there is no thread for this yet!

The show is doing wonderfully well. I personally love it. It's different, no cheap comedy and pure entertainment.

TRP wise it's doing extremely well. Currently at the top in it's category (even above the likes of KBC, Jhalak Dikhla Ja, etc.) and overall 3rd.

BTW you can watch the full episodes, trailers, etc. here - http://www.youtube.com/user/colorstv/search?query=comedy+nights

Believe me, this show is amazing. You gotta watch this if you don't.

Goodbye BSNL

Posted: 17 Feb 2014 02:04 AM PST

Goodbye BSNL! I finally have an viable option and can consign my BSNL broadband connection to the garbage. To be honest the service was not too bad - I had the 8 GB @ 2Mbps plan and by and large connectivity was okay. But the speed was never up to the mark. And on the few times I had problems, their customer service was so bad I felt like ripping the phone lines out of th wall. Firstly, they only work from around 10 AM to 5 PM. So what happens if there is a problem outside thosehours and urgent work is held up? And if you do call during working hours, it takes ages for anyone to answer - the average is the phone rings for about 10 minutes. And once you get an asnwer the oeprator is least interested in hearing about the problem - she is in a rush to give you a complaint number and go off.

But what made me decide to finally give BSNL the kick was a couple of weeks ago when the connection kept going on and off every few minutes. After the usual headaches I was able to maek a complaint in the morning. When nothing was done till late afternoon I spent another half an hour tryign to call them again. When I got through and said that nothing had been done about my complaint, the operator said that there is nothing she can do and gave me the number of the local telephoen exchange and said I should phone them. That number was, of course, always busy.

Another ongoing issue with BSL is that at fixed times everyday - aroud 5 PM and 10 AM in my case, the bandwidth dropped considerably. Other sers tell me that this is because BSNL allows public sector clients to use excess bandwidth - its a government to government thing and the hell with private users.

There are other service providers who offer up to 40 GB downlaod (upload not taken into account for calculating usage) at speeds of up to 15 Mbps. There is no reason why anyone should use BSNL. I am happy I got rid of this third rate organization.

Sheila Dikshit: It's not my fault that Congress was wiped from Delhi

Posted: 17 Feb 2014 01:37 AM PST

Looks like she is all set to make a comeback now that the AAP government has resigned!

'They are desperate to nail me' | Tehelka.com

How do you explain the 15 percent drop in the Congress votes then?
I can't point to only one cause. There were several. There was the anger against corruption within the Central government, and against the price rise in the whole country, and that anger came out, specially in Delhi, because the central government happens to be sitting here and because of the presence of the media here. People may hear about a scam in remote areas, but it's impact is felt most severely in Delhi.
Secondly, I think our party should have worked more collectively. It could also have been a kind of political fatigue: "it's been 15 years, let's have a change". The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had made promises that appealed to a lot of people living in posh areas — 50 percent reduction in power, 700 litres of free water, jobs for all, two laptops, contract labour to be over and everybody made permanent. Now these are attractive things, but certainly not feasible. If it had been possible I would have reduced the power tariff by 70 percent, and we would have had the cheapest power tariff in the country. Of our summer total of 5,000 MW of power consumption, our generating capacity is only 300-400 MW; we import the rest from NTPC and others. We constructed one power plant in Bawana with a capacity of 1,500 MW, but we couldn't get enough gas. So it is only producing 100-150 MW.
The point I am making is this. Delhi is not a power-producing city. We don't have the land. Even our water comes from Haryana, Punjab and UP. It has no natural resources, no agriculture. So you are working in a very different economic scenario.

I don't understand these bad reviews about ACT!

Posted: 17 Feb 2014 01:26 AM PST

Seriously people, is ACT that bad?

Here is what went with me.

Before going for ACT I had made up my mind to go with BSNL's EVDO as I had read all these bad reviews about ACT. I went to BSNL's CSC and they made me visit their place for continuous 4 days without any progress about the connection. After that, leaving BSNL aside, here is how ACT worked for me,

Day 1 - 24/06/2013 : I called up ACT's number and they registered my details
Day 2 - 25/06/2013 : ACT's guy came and took the money.
Day 3 - 26/06/2013 : I called the sales guy (the one who took money) and asked whether it was possible to get the set up today and he replied it could be possible or I would it get for sure within 3 days as promised. Within an hour a technician was at my place set up the connection!
Day 4 - 27/06/2013 : I got a message about my documents being accepted and another message that my connection could be active within 10 days. After 3 hours, ACT's guy called up and verified my details and gave username/password and my connection was active!

Speed is as promised and ping is good enough to play Counter Strike.

I don't know anything about down times and stuff yet. But so far ACT's service wasn't as unprofessional as many people here have complained about getting a new connection.

I'll keep updating about the disconnections, down times and after sales stuff. For the record, I stay in Malleshwaram.

Airtel IPTV on the same line or separate

Posted: 17 Feb 2014 01:08 AM PST

Hello

Currently I have a 4mbps (till 15gb) plan from airtel in new delhi area. I am planning to take airtel's iptv connection. SO I talked to the area airtel guy and he said that the connection should be taken in a separate line and not in the same line as the current internet line . Because otherwise it might affect the speed of the internet. Can he be right about this ? Does anyone else have speed issues on their net because of iptv ?

Cost of installation is Rs.3500  (irrespective of whether the connection is taken in the same line or separate)

monthly SD Rs.400

Please suggest whether I should take a separate connection or take the iptv connection in the current dsl line itself.

Thanks

Congress now accuses Narendra Modi of political plagiarism

Posted: 17 Feb 2014 12:53 AM PST

No kidding. I pretty much spilled my coffee all over my screen.

Union commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma on Saturday accused Narendra Modi of "political plagiarism", saying the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) prime ministerial candidate had nothing new to offer and was rehashing the Centre's achievements.

In an exclusive interview to HT, Sharma, however, admitted while Modi had "packaged himself well", the Congress could not successfully articulate its achievements owing to "communication failure".

Jon von Tetzchner on the new Opera

Posted: 17 Feb 2014 12:47 AM PST

Opera founder von Tetzchner: It's all gone to crap since I quit • The Register

"You need to have something unique and different - and Opera had that. It had all those deals on TVs and embedded. When I quit we had 60m desktop users and were on a nice growth path. We'd have blown through 100m by this time if we'd improved on the browser. Now it's down to 50m and most people are still on [the Presto-based] Opera 12."
Opera says the actively-developed Chromium-based browser is more compatible with modern sites, and now has compatibility with modern plug-ins many consider essential, such as the Evernote clipper and LastPass. But von Tetzchner argues that it could have added extension compatibility and yet kept the compact Presto engine.

HP Chromebook 14

Posted: 17 Feb 2014 12:36 AM PST

So... Largely disappointed as expected. The resolution is too low for someone like me coming from a WQXGA display. Display tech is also quite poor in comparison to what I have on my (very f**ked up) Dell. I am not used to laptop keyboards so that would take a lot of time getting used to. Would have to reorganize my Chrome toolbar to fit all the icons in so little space available on that device :D And since the changes sync across all Chromes, I would have get the same compact edition on my desktop as well lol.

Anyways. It is still a laptop that comes with a 9 hour battery life. Which is what the focus is on. A backup machine to be used primarily during longer power cuts and travel. Would see if I can switch to it as my primary work machine as well. Would save a lot of power in the process. I can now get a Pogobox or a similar device for my torrent downloads and exclusively use the desktop for watching movies and TV shows!

I would eventually find out.

Nitish Kumar: There is no Modi-Wave

Posted: 17 Feb 2014 12:33 AM PST

BJP 'day-dreaming' in their own world : Nitish Kumar - The Economic Times

In a scathing attack at BJP, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said there was no wave in its favour in the coming Lok Sabha polls and the party is "day dreaming" in its own world.
"BJP workers are day dreaming in their own world...there is no wave in its favour for the general elections," Kumar said while addressing a JD(U) 'Sankalp rally' here.
Kumar blamed BJP for break up in alliance by violating the agreed principles - keeping off Article 370, uniform civil code and Ayodhya dispute - which could be solved either through court order or mutual talks between two communities.
"We had made it clear to them that the Prime Minister of the country should be a person who believes in inclusive growth and a vision to take backward states ahead," he said.
"We could not have betrayed our own conscience to keep others happy," he said to justify the decision to walk out of alliance with BJP 17 years after the elevation of Narendra Modi.

Saga of Light Hearted Bantering by Tarun Tejpal

Posted: 16 Feb 2014 11:39 PM PST

The editor-in-chief of a leading investigative magazine is being probed over claims that he sexually assaulted a woman colleague, a senior police official said on Friday, after the media, activists and politicians urged a criminal prosecution.
The case came to light after the victim complained in an email to a superior that Tarun Tejpal, founder of the award-winning weekly, Tehelka, assaulted her twice in a hotel elevator during a conference in the resort state of Goa this month.

I had no idea they could do this...

While she has not formally complained against Tejpal, police said they decided to act on the basis of the media reports of the leaked complaint, and that Tejpal could face charges of outraging the modesty of a woman and rape.

Media people can speak the same quality of bullshit as politicians...
