Finally if you think you know an ISP who is not listed in the chart but is definitely throttling torrent then post it here , Also if you think an ISP in this chart no longer throttles torrent then do comment and let others know .

Main aim of this thread will be to help people in selecting the right ISP if there main usage will be related to torrents .

MTNL Broadband VDSL2 User Experiences

Posted: 18 Jan 2014 02:46 AM PST

I wanted to start a new experience thread simply to discuss MTNL VDSL.

Some things to consider before/after taking a new VDSL connection

SNR margins (SNRM)
Below 9 dB : Poor experience with lots of HEC and CRC errors. Line will disconnect frequently.
9   - 11  dB : Ok but not ideal. Disconnections will be there if some unexpected variance is introduced by rains, humidity in the wire.
12 - 16  dB : Ideal and realistic value. Expect almost no disconnections as the line has more wiggle room for tolerating variances.
17 dB and up : God Mode. Lucky few get this on VDSL synced at 30 mbps and up. So far I have seen various stats and no one has reported this SNRM (That is because VDSL sync rates are always higher)

Higher you sync rate, lower the SNRM will be. Lower the SNRM, lower the connection reliability. Lower reliability means frequent disconnections. Hence ISP's have a setting in DSLAM to artificially increase SNRM value for a particular phone line. Hence you sync at lower rate and line automagically becomes stable.

Attenuation may not be that important after all. It reduces sync speeds over a distance but is not an indicator of connection reliability. (You can roughly calculate your line length from it. Do it here)

Apply for VDSL connection only if you are within half km. Otherwise you will get ADSL like sync rates.

I will update this entry with some of our findings. Since VDSL is somewhat new to India, this thread can help some early adopters.

Currently the speeds are decent for fast servers. But single streams are slow due to a bottleneck somewhere.

Two Modems One Connection. HELP!

Posted: 18 Jan 2014 02:44 AM PST

I have a connection problem. The thing is that there is a tp-link wireless modem in first floor and and an AR800V v3.0 wireless modem in ground floor both given by BSNL. Now i want only one connection to both the floors, the wifi range of first floor is weak at ground floor vice versa. So how do i go about it? Any ideas?
I also have a netgear wireless router.

1.) tp-link wireless modem
2.) AR800V v3.0 (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B2ewWSPXOCCWUWt6eVhRTnZ5bkE/edit?pli=1)
3.) Netgear wireless router(Netgear JNR1010 N150 Wireless Router - Netgear: Flipkart.com)

NOTE: We had 2 broadband connections, now removing one of them and opting for the 1800rs 4mbps 100gb plan offered in Karnataka Circle.

Ass h*les are collecting data for google

Posted: 18 Jan 2014 12:32 AM PST

Some ass h*les came to my house they said they are collecting data for putting online at google (I assume google maps) I denied that I don't want to put my mobile number and other personal info online. They were collecting GPS data ,address , contact number, name and were from some 'set net' agency .

I told him I don't want give my info and I can add myplace myself if I ever want to.

He said (very rudely) "Agar aapke pass bo technology hoti toh kya baat thi phir hume ye karne ki jarurat hi nahi padti"

so these days people carrying a stupid certificate doing survey at 8:30 PM who think I need some super technology to add my place to google maps wants me to believe they are appointed by google to collect data.

But the way he was arguing with me like I do not know anything about internet really  :pissed-off:  :pissed-off:

Reliance Broadband - West Mambalam and Ashok Nagar

Posted: 17 Jan 2014 09:44 PM PST

Recently I went through the Reliance web site and found that they've truly unlimited high-speed plans. I'm very interested in obtaining that connection, but in my Area Reliance doesn't seem having any coverage.

Two times, the guy has come and said that there are no lines near my area and hence can't give me a connection.

Anyone uses Reliance Broadband with Thunder plans? How's the experience? And how are the speeds?

BSNL Wired Login problem with laptop but desk top is working

Posted: 17 Jan 2014 08:02 PM PST

Hi,

BSNL wired Broad Band connection. With same userid and password, using desktop I am able to connect to the net. But using laptop and same userid and password is not working. It used to work before with laptop also.

1st time I got a pop up window with redial timer, I clicked cancel and later I tried to connect again by clicking the connect icon. Then the login page came up as usual,  with out me doing any thing the cursor went into the userid slot. By the time I clicked connect it wiped out the userid. Since then I could not connect using laptop. But the same userid is working with desktop.

I tried flushing DNS, resetting the modem. Unplugging the wires. Scanned with anti virus. It is giving 691 error code. But the same userid and password is working with desktop.

 Any advise please.

Thanks.

This year the Comic-Con International award for Saving the Best For Last goes to Warner Bros., which at the end of its panel in Hall H brought out Zack Snyder to make a very big mic-drop announcement: That there would be a new Superman movie. With Batman. The movie will be titled Superman & Batman according to The Los Angeles Times, Snyder will direct the film, slated for 2015, and—according to The Hollywood Reporter—Henry Cavill will reprise the role of Clark Kent/Superman, but it's unclear who will play Batman. Man of Steel screenwriter David S. Goyer will pen the script. Sources also told the Reporter that the film will be part of the build up for a 2017 release for the Justice League movie.

decent show. not as bad as http://broadbandforum.in/television/82040-dont-trust-b-apartment-23-a/

some episodes are super lame. a few have some really funny moments. Zooey Deschanel plays the character of well pretty much herself.

i have no idea why they killed the character of coach and replaced it with a dumb black guy who fails to play the stereotype!

Windows 8.1

Posted: 17 Jan 2014 04:54 PM PST

What to Expect (And What We Want) From Windows Blue

More tile sizes: If Windows Phone can support three tile sizes (small, medium and large), then Windows 8 should absolutely support them, too. The tiles are much larger on Windows 8, so smaller sizes would be easy to tap with a fat finger. It will also make for a more personalized Start Screen, which the Windows 8 Modern UI is all about.

Updated Mail: The Windows 8 Mail app needs some extra power. Simplicity is great, but some basic additions would help it be a more useful tool. Microsoft should add support for POP3 accounts and incorporate features available in Outlook.com like drag and drop. A report from ZDNet suggests that this might come prior to the Windows Blue update.

Ability to use multiple browsers in Modern UI: This is a small request, but it addresses what can become a major annoyance in Windows 8 if you ever use more than one browser. Right now, even if a browser is available as a Windows 8 app, it will only work in the Modern UI environment if it is set as your default browser. If it's not your default browser, then it will open in the desktop. That goes for the built-in IE10 browser and other offerings like Google Chrome.

Boot to desktop: This is one of the most common Windows 8 demands, especially for business users. It should definitely be an option for Windows 8 Pro users, who do most of their work in the desktop environment. It's thoughtful and will make a large number of users happy without much work. But it should absolutely not be an option for Windows RT, where the opposite should be true.

Make it possible to manage everything in Modern UI: Alternatively, if you want to stay in the Modern UI 100 percent of the time, Microsoft should let you stay there 100 percent of the time. Especially since the Modern UI is the future of Windows. Microsoft should have the Task Manager, Windows Explorer and Control Panel available as Modern UI apps. You should be able to change your screen resolution and manage your files without being forced to the desktop.

China Operating System

China Unveils New Native Operating System - NYTimes.com

The Chinese Academy of Sciences called COS a strategic product for national security, urgently needed following revelations regarding United States surveillance and Microsoft Windows ending further support of its XP system, the state-run Global Times newspaper reported.
The COS is "completely" independently developed, from the basic coding to the user interface, said an article posted on the Chinese Academy of Sciences website.
COS can run Java applications, and supports HTML 5 web applications and games, the C114 article said. It is currently compatible with over 100,000 applications, it said.
"Its full name should be Copy Other System," said one user with the handle "byxu," in one of the most upvoted comments on Sina weibo. "It's not open source because they're terrified that others will see that the source code is the same as Android, and accuse them of cheating the government out of money."
