Existing wifi router broken. Should I buy from airtel?

My existing beetle 450 tc1 wifi router that I got when I bought airtel iptv connection 3-4 years ago has given up.

Customer care is telling me a new one will cost me 1600 rupees.

They have me two wifi options beetel 450 tc1 & bt845w.

Should I get one of these or should I get another wifi router from the market myself? Will it work with airtel iptv/broadband?

BSNL - EVDO - Usage - Review and everything about it

I know its a old school connection , about 4 years old but till now there isnt a better wireless plan compared to this till now

Rs 750 Pm True Unlimited . Prepaid

Pros:
1. True Unlimited no FUPs - i download around 100-150 Gbs a month, i can download upto 200-300 Gbs but i run out of files :redface:
2. Priced cheap compared to others , when they charge Rs 1000 with 10 Gb FUP
3. U dont have to talk to the customer care ever

Cons:
1. it has too many
2. Coverage is too thin , forget about slow speed there are places where u wont get any service at all
3. u just cannot walk to a BSNL office and buy this sim , because 70% of them doesnt know there is a service like this
4. CDMA
5. Availability of CDMA- EVDO modems in the market
6. Recharge Problems , those STVs mentioned on the site dont work most of the time ( lost Rs 1000 over online Recharge couple of times)

even after all the above i just love this connection , its prepaid and costs 750 pm , unlimited
have nice coverage in my town , so always get 1-2mbps , but dont ask about the ping or latency values :mad:

with this connection i have never thought about another connection for 3 years now .

have some doubts ? want details ? ask it here

My Oct,2013 month usage : 54.18 GB

My FUP limit                       : 60 GB (ACT Indulge plan)

 

My speed was reduced to 512 Kbps on Oct 27th and again on December 29th even before reaching FUP Limit.
 
I called customer care several times. They said the usage details are ''delayed" by 24 Hrs and
I may have reached the FUP Limit at server (Pathetic and I accepted because I don't have proofs)
 
I've proofs with the total usages which I got from "My usage". Every time when my usage is around 54GB, my speed goes to 512Kbps
 
I've suffered with Low Speeds. from 25 Mbps to 512 Kbps even before reaching FUP Limit???
 
 
Guys! Beware of ACT or if you already have ACT, keep watching your "My Usage"

Thought I would start another thread for people who have actually used this service to describe their experience.

They have started advertising quite heavily in Bombay and their plans seem pretty decent. Their 600kbps UL plan would be excellent for me.

I really like the way they have bill limits for their limited plans as well. That shows they understand consumer concerns about enormous bills and have designed their plans to allay them.

So how good is their service? Any down time? How quickly do they respond to complaints? Really any information from people who have used Tikona would be appreciated.

CEO John Chen says upcoming BlackBerry phones to mostly feature keyboards as handset maker is shifting focus to business customers.

 

I think a lot of their biz customers in the west (esp US) went in for the iOS or Android phones when many companies started the BYOD (Buy Your Own Device) schemes as a cost cutting measure. Now both these OS's have a BBM app available. :)

Please advise if I should get Airtel ? and which router/modem?

Hi all,

 

I stay in Thakur Village, Kandivali (E), Mumbai. I have been using MTNL triband for the past 3 months, and I am frustrated. I used to have Hathway as well, but had billing problems with them as well.

 

Long story short, I am contemplating Airtel broadband - "New Turbo 25GB ( 4mbps - upto 25GB - 512kbps later @1199/-pm).

 

My questions:

 

1. How is the performance of Airtel broadband in Thakur Village/kandivali ?. I have been reading mixed reviews and confused how will it perform in the area where I stay.

2. I have a 4BHK, and I was thinking of getting TP Link TD-8968 Modem Router. Will it work with Airtel?

    The reason I am thinking of purchasing this, inspite Airtel guys saying I will get a free wifi router is because I want good coverage throughout my house.

I am confused between 3 models :

ICICIPruLife - Without consent Online Standing Instruction Authorization

I was paying my ICICIPruLife policy premium online today, on payment page they asked me whether I want to provide ICICI bank standing instruction so that they can charge my credit card on their own and I specifically selected NO (unselected the option)

 

But when I finished the process the final confirmation page states that Online Standing Instructions Status is YES now.

 

I do not like when companied force things on me and hate it even more when it is related to financial transaction without my consent.

 

I consider this as blatant cheating on ICICI Pru Life's part.

Surprise! It doesn't actually need Lumia Black to work. We we're able to install and use the app on a device with the Amber firmware update installed.

 

There's not much to this. This app helps you tidy up your Start screen by allowing you to group apps together into a folder. Not only apps, but some popular settings can also be added for relatively quick access. The folder solution isn't as elegant as it is on competing mobile operating systems. For example, the folder you create is basically an Live tile with the icons of the various apps inside. Once you tap it you jump into the App Folder app where you'll then tap the app you want to go to. But it's a nice way to clean up your Start screen.

My experience with ACT BB

Feedback whether positive or negative should be passed to the appropriate person. That's what I believe in.

 

This is the timeline of how my installation experience has been with ACT BB.

 

11 Nov-2013 - I applied for a new ACT BB connection today in Kundanahalli Gate, Bangalore. I will keep you posted on the developments. 

 

11-Nov-2013 - Cheque payment made to Sales executive, Babu Reddy, details filled on form and submitted to him.
ETA - 3 days for wiring and connection to be activated.

12-Nov-2013 - I got a call from ACT technician today that cabling would be done by end of the day. Got a confirmation call from Customer Care at 1543 hrs, IST today that connection will be activated in 2 days. So far, so good.

 

12-Nov-2013 - At 1616 hrs, IST I receive a call from Mukund who is the ACT technician saying that the wiring has been completed to my apartment on the third floor and i would be receiving a call today at 1700 hrs, IST for username and password. Mukund confirms that I can use my internet connection from tonight.

I would term this as awesome service from an installation perspective, although I would have to wait and watch how stable the connection is post installation.

12-Nov-2013 - Cabling has been completed and just received the credentials for my broadband account at 2059 hrs, IST through email and the registered mobile number. A confirmation call was made from the customer care before the account got activated.I am still out, so I gotta go and check how the connection is. I will keep you posted. 

I have connected the cable from ACT BB to my Netgear WGR614 router.

I have an Airtel number and use it to talk to my girlfriend daily (who also has an Airtel number). For the past two days I have noticed that if she tries calling me when the phone is switched off she receives a message "The number XXXXXXXXXX is now ready to receive calls" when I switch on my phone! The message is sent from my number like those missed call alerts.

 

Is this some new service Airtel has dished out? As much as this may be convenient for some, I don't want people to know when exactly I switched on my phone!

Hi Guys,

 

I have recently shifted to the Rajakilpakkam area, Chennai. Was desperately looking for an ISP. Airtel did not have cables, I am not  a great fan of BSNL due to to my past experiences, so rejected that. Finally got to know about a new ISP by the name VIBRANTNET (www.vibrantnet.in). I was using Wi-Fi (FTTH) when I used to stay in Medavakkam, the plans provided by this guy matches the same as Wi-Fi, checked with the Sales guy and came to know that these guys have taken over from Wi-Fi. 

 

I am left with no choice, but I am still confused if I can go for this. I have opted for 4Mbps plan (Rs. 3454 for 3 months + 750 Reg Fee + Tax). The Sales guy has promised to come back within 3 days for the installation. Can someone suggest please?
