TATA DOCOMO BROADBAND in PUNE

Posted: 04 Dec 2013 02:29 AM PST

Hi All,

Well, after poor service from tata photon plus, i have opted for tata docomo broadband. My plan is 2Mbps - 20GB monthly FUP limit @ 999Rs. Monthly rental. They are providing me 1 port router and 512 kbps after FU limit. Installation charges 572Rs. The sales executive has promised me pure speed of 2Mbps praising tata's CDMA network.

I stay in Dattawadi, Pune. I would like to know your reviews on tata docomo broadband regarding its pure dowloading speed,  downtime of network, customer care service quickness. TIA.

32/42 Inch TV

Posted: 04 Dec 2013 02:23 AM PST

I'm looking for two televisions: A 32 inch one, and a 40/42 Inch one. Needs options in both categories.
Connectivity will be a Tatasky HD box, and a PS3. Also USBs from time to time. The TV should also have an option for being able to attach either a sound bar or HTS later next year.
I don't know whether a LED will be better or a LCD or Plasma. Please advise.
I'm only looking for a Samsung, Sony or LG TV. No other brand. Also I want this TV to run at least 5 years.
Budget isn't decided yet, but I doubt it'll cross 40K. Take 30-42K as a range.
Any suggestions?

MS staff

There was a pilot flying a small single engine charter plane, with a couple of very important executives on board. He was coming into Seattle airport through thick fog with less than 10m visibility when his instruments went out. So he began circling around looking for landmark. After an hour or so, he starts running pretty low on fuel and the passengers are getting very nervous. Finally, a small opening in the fog appears and he sees a tall building with one guy working alone on the fifth floor. The pilot banks the plane around, rolls down the window and shouts to the guy "Hey! Where am I?" To this, the solitary office worker replies "You're in a plane." The pilot rolls up the window, executes a 275 degree turn and proceeds to execute a perfect blind landing on the runway of the airport 5 miles away. Just as the plane stops, so does the engine as the fuel has run out.

The passengers are amazed and one asks how he did it. "Simple" replies the pilot, "I asked the guy in that building a simple question. The answer he gave me was 100 percent correct but absolutely useless, therefore that must be Microsoft's support office and from there the airport is just a while away."

Is Windows a virus?

No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do:
They replicate quickly Okay, Windows does that

Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so okay, Windows does that

Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk Okay, Windows does that, too

Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems Sigh... Windows does that, too

Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware Yup, that's with Windows, too

Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature

So, Windows is *not* a virus

Fernando Alonso News and Updates

Posted: 04 Dec 2013 01:58 AM PST

Fernando Alonso topped the timesheets on his return to Renault today at Jerez lapping the Spanish circuit a tenth clear of countryman Pedro de la Rosa. It was an impressive return to the team for Alonso as he put in 70 laps with a best time of 1:19.503s.

It was a busy day for the McLaren Mercedes team with de la Rosa putting in 111 laps in his MP4-23 while Kovalainen sixth fastest, completed 130 laps in the new machine.

Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa were third and fifth fastest respectively for Ferrari with Nico Rosberg running well in his FW29 with the fourth fastest time.

Sebastian Vettel and Sebastien Bourdais proved closely matched for Toro Rosso Ferrari with the seventh and eighth fastest times while Mark Webber was ninth best in the Red Bull Renault.

Kazuke Nakajima rounded out the top ten in his Williams Toyota ahead of Timo Glock in the leading Toyota TF108 and Giancarlo Fisichella in the Force India Ferrari. Kamui Kobayashi brought up the bottom of the timesheets in the second Toyota while Super Aguri Honda did not run after problems encountered yesterday.
Renault continued its preparations for 2008 today with Fernando Alonso taking over driving responsibilities from Nelson Piquet.

It was an important day as it was Alonso's first appearance in Renault colours since being confirmed as a 2008 race driver in December.

Arriving at the Jerez circuit yesterday evening, the Spaniard spoke to the engineers to understand how the first day of the programme had gone, and to prepare for his two days work with the team.

His first day behind the wheel gave the Spaniard the opportunity to drive a car in accordance with the 2008 electronic regulations, and most significantly without traction control. It was also a good opportunity to reacclimatise to the team with which he has worked for six years in the past.

At the end of the session, having covered 70 laps, the overall result was an encouraging first day as Alonso topped the timesheet with a best lap of 1:19.503s.

Fernando Alonso
"The result of my first day in the car is encouraging. I could not wait to drive again, but at the same time I was a bit tentative. I quickly settled back in to the team and everything went well. We made good progress throughout the day, but there is a lot still to do. I had to adapt at first to the car and get used to driving the car without traction control, but I am convinced that that soon I will be used to this and will not remember what is was like to drive with traction control."

How do I configure my newly bought D-Link DSL-2730u Wireless N 150 ADSL2+ 4-Port Router(cum modem)?

Posted: 04 Dec 2013 01:00 AM PST

Recently, I bought a D-Link DSL-2730u Wireless N 150 ADSL2+ 4-Port Router(i.e also modem) to connect to my Airtel broadband.

I've given up after repeated failures to connect to the Internet.
When I ran the diagnostics through 192.168.1.1 of the modem, the process is failing in the step when its connecting to the ISP. I've validated the ISP's username and password but still It gets failed there.

Though, I am getting a valid DSL signal, but after that its throwing the error 651.
I'm using Windows 7. And searched the net for all possible solutions for this error. Tried each one of it, nothing's working.

Am I configuring the Modem right?

Please assist as to what settings I must put.

Thanks in advance.

EMV enabled credit cards now mandatory in India‽

Posted: 03 Dec 2013 11:34 PM PST

1.) All the new Debit or Credit card issued by banks will allow usage in India only. If the customer wants carry out international usage, the cards will have a EMV chip embedded on the card and will pin enabled.

2.) For existing Debit and Credit card customers, the issuing bank will need to convert the normal cards (which have traditional magstrip) into EMV chip and pin enabled (this will be one for users who have used the card internationally atleast once). The process will needs to be completed by June 30th 2013.

3.) Banks will put a threshold limit on international usage beyond which users will not be able to spend. The limit will be decided by Bank based on the risk profile of user. This process will needs to be completed by June 30th 2013.

With all international cards now being enabled for EMV Chip and pin, it will not be possible to use them online ( this is extra layer of security, where user will have to input pin number after usage of card) as most of the online merchants will not have a facility to input pin during process of payment authentication.

Mallya delighted with Fisichella's performance
Force India looks set to step up its relationship with Ferrari for 2009. Not only will the Silverstone based team continue to use a customer engine built by the famous Italian marque next year, Force India is reportedly planning to run a KERS energy-recovery system that is also developed by Maranello-based Ferrari.

"We will run a Ferrari engine and the electronics of Magneti Marelli," team co-owner Vijay Mallya, apparently referring to the introduction next year of a system that will store and re-use energy captured under braking, is quoted as saying by the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport.

Ferrari confirmed recently that its engine and electronics departments have been merged ahead of the major regulation change for 2009.

Force India, however, will continue to build its own gearbox, and the outfit's first 'quick shift' transmission will be introduced at the Hungarian Grand Prix in August.

Mallya said he was delighted in Bahrain, where Force India driver Giancarlo Fisichella finished ahead of the highly rated McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton.

"I could not hide my laughter,:hysterical:" the Indian billionaire said. "In Bahrain, our team made one more step forwards."

Hamilton pleased after maiden MP4-23 run

10 Jan 2008

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton is feeling positive after completing his first laps in the team's 2008 challenger, the MP4-23, on Thursday. Hamilton was in action at Jerez alongside new team mate Heikki Kovalainen, as the British squad continued their three-day private test at the Spanish circuit.

"It was fantastic to get my hands on the MP4-23 this morning in Jerez," said the 23 year-old. "I saw the completed car for the first time on Monday at the team's launch in Stuttgart and I have been pretty impatient since then! My first run was at 09:10 and my first impressions are encouraging.

"I covered over 103 laps, which is 456kms, today. Considering this is only the second day the car has been on track, I am pretty happy with that. We have a lot of work to do, but now we have a real understanding of where we are starting from. I will be back in the MP4-23 with Heikki tomorrow and I am looking forward to continuing the programme and moving forward."

Kovalainen, who got his first taste of the new car on Wednesday, alongside tester Pedro de la Rosa, was equally pleased with his own progress.

"Today was my second day with the MP4-23 and I have now been able to complete over 447kms in total," said the Finn. "We are all still spending time learning about the car and starting to get used to it. That we were on track for 204 laps in total today is definitely helping us to learn and progress with the car.

"For me in particular the car is very different from last year, and I have been focusing on that side of things. Settling into the team has been very easy."

Hamilton clocked the day's best time, a 1m 19.132s, while Kovalainen's best lap was completed in 1m 19.462s. The duo will continue to test at the track on Friday.

Getting 1.6mbps in 2mbps night plan ( 800 combo )

Posted: 03 Dec 2013 10:38 PM PST

Hi,

Recently I changed my triband plan to 800combo.  ( 2mbps night , else 512kbps ).
Earlier I had 599 plan ( 512kbps ), and I always got ~ 64kBps so that was good.  But now ever since I have change the plan I am getting 1.60mbps at night ( manual reset is working after 9PM ) , and other time I am getting 40kBps.

What is wrong here? I don't think line man will even understand this. ( I might even get the answer, "sir yeh 2mbps toh upto hota hai" )

Anyways,  here are the details of my connection ( DSL-2750u ).

Mode: ADSL_2plus Traffic Type: ATM Status: Up Link Power State: L0     Downstream Upstream Line Coding(Trellis): On On SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 288 240 Attenuation (0.1 dB): 410 251 Output Power (0.1 dBm): 201 124 Attainable Rate (Kbps): 10,696 588

**Edit** I pasted above date in tabular format, even that is screwed up.

Mode: ADSL_2plus
Traffic Type:ATM
Status:Up

-                                  Downstream | Upstream

SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 288  | 240
Attenuation (0.1 dB): 410   | 251
Output Power (0.1 dBm):201 | 124

Any help will be highly appreciated ;)

Basically Kejriwal is making a fool out of people and AAP does not deserve to be voted into the State Legislature.

Posted: 03 Dec 2013 09:27 PM PST

Most issues mentioned in the image CANNOT be handled by making an AAP government in State Assembly.

  • Jan Lokpal Bill

If AAP forms the delhi state government, what can they do ? They CANNOT touch/modify CBI. They will not be able to make CBI independent since this will come under powers of Central Government. We all know making CBI independent is one of the MOST important aspects of strong independent Lokpal. Other wise Lokpal will not have investigative and arresting powers.

If AAP comes the power and they pass Lokpal bill in 15 days, that Lokpal will again be like the Jokepal proposed by Khangress (for the above mentioned reason). Basically Kejriwal is cheating/fooling people in this regard by just screaming JLP JLP and not going into details.

  • Independent CBI

see above

  • Swaraj

Their vision of swaraj talks about empowering the Gram Panchayats. AFAIK, there arent many rural areas in NCR.

  • Right to reject/Right to recall, Referendum Style

Out of state government purview

  • One candidate per family

Good initiative. AAP should be praised for it.

  • High command culture

Bitch please !!! AAP already has a high command culture in place. Supreme leader kejriwal and his minions like Y Yadav, Ilmi, Kumar vishwas etc ARE the high command of AAP. Ex-AAP members were pissed off about this thing.

  • Politicians with criminal records

No doubt AAP (as yet) has a better record on this than Khangress, SP, BSP, BJP etc .But the whole Deshraj Raghav thing and "2nd RTI" bullshit should have been dealt better. AAP loses clean image if this continues. The speed with which they gave clean chit to their senior leaders (in the recent sting) is worrisome. Lest AAP become another clean chit giving machine (like Scamgress.)

  • Public money on VIPs

AAP is EXTREMELY stupid on this. Kejriwal talks about no security for elected MLAs, MPs. But what are the possible repercussions ? Tomorrow if Kejriwal became CM and was abducted by Terrorists or Naxalites, who's gonna be responsible? What if terrorists,Naxals hold politicians, MPs, MLAs etc hostage and demand release of their brethren from jail ? Our country is gonna be f**ked. And it has happened before in the Naxal affected areas.

  • Support to strict laws

Rhetoric

  • Public participation in framing Laws

+1 to AAP

  • Transparency in donations

While in theory, this could be good, its a problem for Corporates. Now, please talk to any business family/conglomerate to understand why this is a problem. Business families are often coerced/coaxed/influenced by local units of parties to donate to election funds of parties and these businesses have to oblige. Often, business houses will do it themselves (willingly) to curry favour with the political parties. If everything becomes open, it will be a problem since there will be a perpetual witch-hunt against those who ended up funding the losing party. This is why if you see, big houses like Tata etc donate to BOTH, INC and BJP. They HAVE to play it safe

  • party under RTI

RTI will have to be amended at the Center.

DLC (Exchange) doesn't support 2mbps connection.

Posted: 03 Dec 2013 09:12 PM PST

I have been opted for reliance broadband 2mbps plan from 8-9 months. On recently checking i found that the speed i am getting is of 1mbps connection.

On various complaint and issues. Technician visited my place and told me that their exchange doesnot support 2mbps connection. So switch to 1mbps.

I am amazed that if reliance cant provide connection above 1mbps speed, then why they offer plans of 2mbps,4 and 12 mbps when they dont have resources.

this is a mere fraud. Please help and suggest me how to get it rectified. As earlier i was getting download speed according to 2mbps connection. But what happened now. Plz help.

Need Suggestions, porting out of Vodafone.

Posted: 03 Dec 2013 08:27 PM PST

I've decided to port out of vodafone. 3G being the primary reason. I need 3G majorly across Delhi(where I live), HP and Punjab. So far Reliance GSM is the only operator providing 3G across these circles.

Not to mention that Vodafone's 3G is costlier and speeds are bad in NCR.

Has Downfall For Google Begun ?

Posted: 03 Dec 2013 08:25 PM PST

The Google once i knew and loved is , imo no more. All i see is a big giant corporation sucking all the privacy it can from nearly all individual who are online.

The Fall has been amplified by the recent expose of the PRISM debacle.

With Recent move to make real name / real profile associated with your Google account to comment on youtube , things are not all rossy at google.

Here is another fine example of major f*** up by google , and even more appaling is how we all have started to accept the fact that there is no real support for such a big company. Even though most of the times its all automated , but many years ago , when i had issues with Adsense , it was as if talking to a empty space.

But apart from these , I am slowly loosing my confidence and trust on google , the way they have progressed and action they take.

Youtube without ABP is pure crap. I cant view 30 sec video without wathcing a 1 min ad , that too on HD , when my actual video i am supposed to watch doesnt run smoothly at 240p , even though its an isp issue , still Google should be aware of my bandwidth , when it is quick enough to change the video from 240p to 144p , me even without asking it , but fails to load a SD ad depending on my speed.

Gmail is full of ads again and it started to be listed right above emails too.

Picasa is dead and replaced with crap like G+ photo which is viewable for the elite who can have a decent 2mpbs connection.

Blogger imo is dead too , with region changing domains , i feel its more shifted towards easy censoring .

Google plus is crap and so is FB. May be i am just tired of all these social sites. May be its just me .

Apart from these , the main service , the actual search , imo has taken deep dive . The results are no more better. Most of the time it serves me out dated links (2008-2010) , and each time i have to specify to link to 2012-2013 to get more precise results. With all the MPAA/RIAA/other take down request , i am not sure whether the result i am seeing is even the best ones.

You cant use Google without using good userscripts (googlifix) to enable all the hidden features , which were once easily available.

Android is whole lot different , with Google play/market imo is fuc*** up , with most of the space wasted on movies and books and no real way to show only apps. Still the search on Play is ancient and no real way to filter them.

With recent 4.4 KK , and recent issue on how you cant have access to Battery info , i dont know where this is all leading. Even though a lot has been optimized and became effecient , android is again pushing one to use its services .

May its all because of PRISM , i have lost all trust on google and each day all i see if they grabbing all the possible information on everyone , to either serve the ads or to nsa or whatever. There is also a general dislike slowly growing towards google.

A Christmas Story In Real Life

Posted: 03 Dec 2013 04:24 PM PST

For our latest mission, we recreated the famous "triple dog dare" scene from A Christmas Story on an NYC subway car. Instead of licking a flagpole, our character licked a subway pole. Using a prosthetic tongue with a magnet inside, we were able to get his tongue to appear stuck to the pole, much to the surprise of New Yorkers on the train.
