DOCOMO's 3G service is a BIG joke Posted: 18 Dec 2013 01:31 AM PST I just can't understand how DOCOMO managed to obtain 3G license with such pathetic 3G services. Their voice service is quite good, so no complaints about that. But DOCOMO's 3G service is almost non-existent in Karnataka (no idea about other circles).
My first issue is this ridiculous '40-minute auto disconnection' feature. I contacted customer care several times regarding this issue, but they always gave unsatisfactory responses. Finally when I sought customer support through online chat, a representative just copy-pasted the following:- "We would like to inform you that we always strive to offer high quality services and connectivity to our esteemed subscribers. With an objective to avoid the discomfort to our subscribers due to bill shock at the end of billing tenure or excess balance deduction, the internet/GPRS session is designed to get disconnected after 40 minutes of session. This way we help you to avoid any excessive charges due internet usage abuse and GPRS/Internet session kept live ignorantly." High quality services and connectivity? What a joke! The inside-secret is the DOCOMO's 3G infrastructure is so damn pathetic, so they have only a small number of connectivity slots available. When all these slots are filled by users, then new users will be unable to connect. Hence they have introduced this 40-minute auto disconnection, so that others users also get a chance to connect. They cleverly say it is to avoid 'bill shock', but everyone knows that it is just a lie. My company reimburses my 3G data costs, and I often need to make video calls exceeding their stupid 40 minute limit. Also, I don't understand this logic of 'bill shock' for people who have subscribed to a data pack.
The second issue is also connected to the first problem I mentioned. Due to DOCOMO's abysmal 3G infrastructure, it takes several attempts (usually 8 to 10 attempts) to connect to the internet at 3G speed. I contacted customer care for several months, but they failed to resolve this issue. Whenever I mention the issue, their common question was "What error message you get?". They don't even have the common sense to know that smartphones don't display any error messages. Only old Java handsets display those error messages. When I telll this to them, they say "how can we help you without knowing the error message?". Then they tell me to change APN settings, reinsert sim card, try the sim in a different handset etc., but nothing works. Finally, they just sent this stupid copy-paste response during online chat:- "We would like to inform you that regarding the issue of GPRS we at Tata Docomo always strive to introduce products that are in sync with Customer requirements while ensuring that such products provide optimum value against the amounts spent by our esteemed customers. Such products, especially the data/internet usage products are dependent on various factors for accessibility and continuity, some of these factors being in our control and others beyond some factors beyond our control, but which hugely and adversely impact data usage can impact on the network and signal strength and therefore affect connection speeds/ continuity. At peak times when many people are using the network, connection speeds, and quality suffers. Also as with any network based on radio technology, handset quality or local conditions may prevent or interfere with network reception within coverage areas. However we do understand and regret the fact, that you have not had a favorable experience with the said product. For any assistance mail us at listen at tatadocomo .com" As I mentioned previously, the reason for this is that DOCOMO's limited number of connectivity slots are almost always filled by other users, so I'm unable to connect until a slot becomes free. This is totally ridiculous.
Finally, the biggest problem. After repeated attempts to get my issues resolved with no results, they suggested me to write to the appellate officer(appellate.kk@tatadocomo.com). I did that, and got an automated reply within a few minutes, which said I would get a response within 2 working days. But I haven't got a response even after 5 working days (i excluded Saturday and Sunday). This means that there is probably no appellate officer at all for DOCOMO, and they are just maintaining a dummy appellate email id, just to send automated replies.
I agree that DOCOMO is unable to provide proper service due to its low costs. In such cases, I'm sure it would be more preferential for customers if DOCOMO hikes their prices to provide good service, rather than maintaining low prices but offering incorrigible services. I sincerely hope that Docomo does not win the 3G spectrum bidding in Karnataka during January 2014. As for me, I'll definitely be porting my number to a different operator after my current balance is exhausted. |

Need help with Beetel 450TC2 modem Posted: 17 Dec 2013 11:48 PM PST I recently got Beetel 450TC2 wifi-modem with my Airtel internet connection. I can connect to internet via lan wire but they have implemented enterprise wifi security for wireless connectivity. Basically, one has to register his/her devices via their website and only then he/she shall be able to connect to internet. Also it has a limit of only 4 devices via wifi as websites registers MAC of each device. If one has to add a new device he has to de-register previous device. In short it is "crap worthy". |

Tata Docomo 2G/3G connection Problem Posted: 17 Dec 2013 11:23 PM PST Its been a month since I started using TATAT DOCOMO postpaid connection with rs 350 plan, which promises me 1GB 3G internet + 2G unlimited internet. But as soon I took the connection I realised that TATA DOCOMO internet connets once, stays on for 30 minutes and after that disconnects. It doesnt connect back for the entire day(How many ever times you try). The next day I either have to switch off/on or Remove/Reinsert my SIM to connect the internet back again. I have raised several complaints with Tata Docmo Customer Care regarding this. The solution they gave was to "IP Pooling issue for the entire of karnataka Circle, so Keep turning off/on the data to reconnect back and occasionally try switch off/on also". I am tired of turning off/on my data connection on my MOTOROLA ATRIX 2. My question is when TATA DOCOMO can't provide the service promised, why should I pay their postpaid bill? I feel cheated by this geasture of TATA DOCOMO. Please provide me valuable suggestion to file a Consumer Complaint regarding the same. Customer complaint numbers are 759078273, 381921313 |
New AirTel Connection @ Perungudi, Chennai Posted: 17 Dec 2013 11:07 PM PST A few months back, I had initiated a topic where I mused out loud re: ISPs in Chennai's Perungudi area.
http://broadbandforum.co/topic/64020-searching-for-isp-perungudi-chennai/
As it so happened, AirTel was the *only* way to go. Lazy arse clowns at BSNL threw their hands up. Reliance, two-faced twats, offered connections ONLY to corporates/offices (and refused even if I said I run a SOHO myself).
So... AirTel it had to be. And boy was it a rocky start - right from the "address/identification proof" requirement. Anyway... I must say that the fellow at the franchise office close by was a class act (thanks to him, I retained some sort of sanity).
I registered on a Thursday and was promised installation by Saturday. But the engineers didn't come till this evening (Tuesday).
I had opted for my own modem (AirTel's pay 6-months-rental-in-advance-and-stick-with-it-with-no-chance-of-plan-change can suck on my left nut!) - the engineers were scrapping around with the settings (thankfully, I had done my homework and found out what had to be tinkered with re- AirTel's ADSL/PPPoE config).
I'll skip the part where they clowned around and broke a statuette while tinkering with the junction box.
Mercifully, I am now connected... I was promised a "Welcome call", which - they said - would allow me to set my bill preferences, bill generation date and change my plan, etc. Yet to receive one.
If I try to register online, the portal sends a OTP to some other registered number and not mine! God knows what these dingbats have done! Are they re-using an old or a previously disconnected service?
Anyway... I tried calling 121/198 from the fixed line. And try as I might - keying in the fixed line with STD code *always* ends up as an error. WTF!??! Exasperating.
And I dunno if it is my luck, the Net Xpress app which the technician downloaded refuses to run (XP\SP3). I got it to run in a 'safe mode' (as opposed to rebooting the computer in safe mode), but it doesn't detect an active internet connection (there is a file being blissfully downloaded in the background). In the previous step, it had asked if I was an Airtel Technician. Not sure if this was to be done by them...
On a side note, is this application any good? (Assuming I get it to run one fine day)
Oh well... End of rant... At least I can *ahem* browse. |

Really disappointed with Docomo in Karnataka Posted: 17 Dec 2013 11:00 PM PST I was using a Vodafone connection which was excellent, and ported to Docomo in July 2013 for the sole reason that Vodafone's 3G licence was withdrawn in Karnataka. I wasleft with two options (Airtel and Docomo) which were the only ones having native 3G license in Karnataka. I avoided Airtel because I had used it before, and although Airtel's netwrok is good, they are big time frauds and cheats. I had no idea about Docomo, but since several people told me that Docomo has a pretty good network in Karnataka, I decided to port my number to Docomo.
All was well for a few days, and then the problems started. Docomo's netwrok is fine with respect to normal 2G voice calls, but its pathetic with respect to data. And the customer care too is not at all satisfactory. Let me explain in detail.
1) I have a Nokia Lumia 920 handset. I usually keep my data connection turned off, and only turn it on when required. I have noticed that 9 out of 10 times, I never get the data connection even after turning it on the settings. This is true irrespective of whether I turn on 2G data or 3G data. I have to turn the data connection on and off multiple times, and if I'm lucky, I get the connection after a lot of attempts. I contacted customer care regarding this issue in the beginning of August. He told me to change the access point name from TATA.DOCOMO.INTERNET to TATA.DOCOMO.INTERNETHVC, and this change would resolve my problem. I made this change, but noticed no improvement because the problem still persisted. I called customer care again the next day to tell them that the solution they provided didn't work. To this, the person told me that he has registered a complaint, and I would get a call back within 24 hours to either acknowledge that my issue has been resolved, or to let me know when it will be resolved. That was in the beginning of August, and until today (September 25th), I never got any call from Docomo, and the problem still persists.
2) Second thing is with respect to the language. Although I have clearly set my IVR language as English, I always get connected to the Kannada or Hindi customer care department whenever I choose the option to speak to a customer care representative. They told me that whenever the English department is busy, I get connected to either the Kannada or Hindi department. I specifically told them to change my settings so that I always get connected to the ENglish department, and I don't mind waiting for some time if the lines are busy. The person told me that my issues will be resolved within 24 hours, and after that, I will always get connected to the English department from my number. This was during the second week of August. But until today, the issue hasn't been resolved, and I still get connected to only the Kannada or Hindi departments.
3) Since I was having these issues and wasn't getting any solution by calling customer care, I thought of registering a complaint via the official Tata Docomo website. But for that, I needed to create an acccount and the site never allowed me to crate the account. The problem was that while creating an account, I'm asked to choose a password with a 'special character', but the supported special charaters are never mentioned. I tried passwords with all the special charaters available on my keyboard, but I always got an error which said that my passowrd doesn't contain a special character. This effectively prevents me from ever registering a complaint online.
4) My final issue is with respect to online recharge. The website asks me to enter my number in order to show me the available recharges, but when I enter my number and click 'submit', I always get a message which says 'No topups are currently available for your number'. So to recharge online, i always have to go through the tedious proicess of searching through the available recharges and then selecting the one I require.
If these problems continue, I would have no choice but to port to another operator once I have completed the mnimum duration with Docomo. Since I'm unable to get solution to my probelms in any way, I posted it here so that someone from Docomo might see it and improve their services.
Here are my details, just in case:- Number:- +919880144504 Email id:- sunil_u123@hotmail.com Sorry, i have no alternate number. |
