Advice on Roaming of MTNL 3g sim in bsnl pune

Posted: 23 Nov 2013 02:57 AM PST

Hi IBF users,

I am moving to  a place where we do not have broadband internet connection so I am planning to buy a mtnl 3g sim from my hometown (Delhi) and use it in BSNL Pune network (hinjewadi area)

Please help for following queries

1) will there be data roaming charges for mtnl delhi sim?(mtnl mumbai says 2p/10kb , mtnl delhi says no)

2) will there be speed reductions?

3) Do i need to do special settings/configuration to use it in Pune (i have got a Huawei E3121 for the sim)

4) any idea if BSNL is reliable in Hinjewadi area...in Phase 1 near Hinjewadi chwk

5) any problems if i recharge with unlimited plan [read somewhere that mtnl mumbai unlimited plans are available only in Mumbai and not in other places and speeds only of 2g and not 3g for interstate roaming
..... No idea abt Delhi , hence asking
]

Sincere suggestions from IBF veterans appreciated

Thanks

Which debit card is best for online banking?

Posted: 23 Nov 2013 02:52 AM PST

I just want to know which bank debit card has good online banking portals and is most likely to be useful for online banking in most sites.

PS: I own a corporation bank debit card which I don't want to use for online banking.

Many people have suggested state bank of India and HDFC

I have a normal MCB based distribution board at home and wanted to understand how to avoid short circuits and heat fires in equipment. See photos of my dish washer plug that has melted due to wife not plugging it in all the way into a belkin spike buster. Both have got burnt but I would have liked a device in the main board to trip as this was heating up or sparking. This is connected to its own C20 Mini MCB too. I was thinking maybe a RCD or an RCDO should be installed on each phase?Posted Image

** BSNL BROADBAND DSL LINK UNSTABLE **

Posted: 23 Nov 2013 02:45 AM PST

** BSNL BROADBAND DSL UNSTABLE **

1. BSNL DSL link unstable. Modem's DSL LED, disconnects every 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

2. Using Beetel ADSL Modem 220BX.

3. Have removed the splitter. Now phone line goes directly into the modem.

Thanks.

The first round of the men's event will include eight sides that will be divided into two groups of four teams each, with the table-toppers progressing to the Super 10 stage.

In the first round, Group A will feature host Bangladesh alongside three teams that will qualify from the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013, to be staged from November 15 to 30. Group B will include Zimbabwe, which will be joined by another three teams from the upcoming qualifiers. As such, the two groups will be finalised on November 30.

The Super 10 stage will start with an evening match between former champions India and Pakistan in Dhaka on March 21 Defending champions West Indies will launch their title defence against India in an evening match on Sunday March 23. Tarun Tejpal surely loves to stay in news

Posted: 22 Nov 2013 11:35 PM PST

The editor-in-chief of a leading investigative magazine is being probed over claims that he sexually assaulted a woman colleague, a senior police official said on Friday, after the media, activists and politicians urged a criminal prosecution.
The case came to light after the victim complained in an email to a superior that Tarun Tejpal, founder of the award-winning weekly, Tehelka, assaulted her twice in a hotel elevator during a conference in the resort state of Goa this month.

I had no idea they could do this...

While she has not formally complained against Tejpal, police said they decided to act on the basis of the media reports of the leaked complaint, and that Tejpal could face charges of outraging the modesty of a woman and rape.

Media people can speak the same quality of bullshit as politicians...

BBG FN COMBO 600 speed is very slow

Posted: 22 Nov 2013 10:49 PM PST

I am getting a very low speed on BBG FN COMBO 600 connection. I have tested it in "http://speedtester.bsnl.co.in/" and it shows as "417.10kbps" = "52.14 KB/sec" which is very slow.

Expected is "2Mbps" = "200KB/sec". What should I do ? Can someone throw some light on this ? Has anyone experienced this earlier ?

No easy way to force Nexus devices to get the update on priority

Posted: 22 Nov 2013 09:06 PM PST

What checking-in does.

It is, mostly.
Rollouts are conducted in phases. Typically they start at 1% of devices for around 24 - 48 hours; we watch the return rates and resulting device checkins and error reports (if any), and make sure nothing looks wrong before sending it to more. Then typically it goes to 25%, 50%, 100% over the course of a week or two.
What the percentages mean is that when your device checks in, it has a 1% chance (for example) of being offered the OTA. If it doesn't (randomly) get an offer, it will never get an offer until the next batch.
IOW, once your device checks in and gets turned down, that's it until the next batch. Mashing on the "check for updates" button just causes your device to check in again, and get automatically turned down again. Think about how that makes your device feel! WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE PHONES?!
That said, once the new batch does start, hitting that button does give you a new roll of the dice -- but once. Since devices usually only check in for system updates every 24 hours (I think? Certainly on a many-hours basis) this can get you your shot sooner than it would happen on its own.
So, mash away. :) Just be patient, and mashing on it more often than once or twice a day isn't going to gain you anything.
Edit: also, keep in mind that this isn't first-come/first-served. You're not racing other devices to get your slot in the current batch, or something.

What resetting Google Service Framework do:

Doing this changes the primary ID by which Google knows your device. As far as the servers are concerned, the device was basically factory reset. There are many downstream effects of this, but a big one is that this invalidates the tokens used by any app that uses GCM (which is nearly all the Google apps, and a ton of third-party apps.)
How apps react to GCM IDs changing varies by app. With Play Store you have to log out and log back in, I think Gmail usually handles it transparently eventually but won't get new mail notifications for a while, etc. Some apps you may have to clear data on to recover. All apps will simply stop getting GCM push-messages, until they get a new GCM ID; some do this frequently, others rarely, and some apps use the GCM ID as an ID on their own servers (as it is opaque and basically random), so other things besides push messages may not work.
Nothing bursts into flames, but it makes a ton of nuisances on the device, including some that can look pretty mysterious. Your mileage will vary depending on what apps you use.
All of this can be avoided by just doing an 'adb sideload' if you are impatient.
EDIT: affects vs. effects. shame

My Dlink router and its problems on BSNL

Posted: 22 Nov 2013 08:27 PM PST

I use DLINK 2730U on BSNL Broadband.

Since September, our modem (or maybe broadband connection) is facing lots of problems. At night the left most light becomes red  and all the other lights are dead. But once in a while that light becomes green along with second last light. When this happens i have to enter 192.168.1.1 and configure the settings as if the modem is brand new. After that only the last light becomes green and i can access internet
..but only on wifi devices like laptops and phones
My PC which is connected to the modem does not get internet.

The Router problem doesn't end there, out of the blue the last light goes off and i have to enter 192.168.1.1 again and again and set it up again again its like a daily chore just to access the internet, and that too when my modem light is NOT RED .

Plz help

How do i configure my PC to get internet ??

How to stop my modem light to becomes RED and other light to become dead

How to make my modem remember settings so that i dnt have to reconfigure twice or thrice a day

SD Channel quality on HD STB

1. Will the picture quality of SD channels improve on HD Set Top Box, just because of HDMI connection or what?

2. What and how can one get maximum signal strength and quality on set top box. Does it depend on Dish placement position or on atmospheric conditions?
