hathway not providing high and data usage and charging more in mumbai Posted: 03 Oct 2013 02:18 AM PDT hathway provides 15 mbps connection in banglore or hyderabad for almost the same price for which it provides only a 5 mbps connection in mumbai. Even the data usage is almost double. why this partiality then? Even we pay the price then why they are enjoying the benefit of 15 mbps + higher fup and we here are left back with only 5 mbps. hathway should bring up higher speeds in mumbai too. Or else hathway is cheating the mumbai customers by taking almost the same price and providing 10 mbps less than thebanglore and hyderabad customers and that too with half the fup. I am one such frustated customer with a 5 mbps hathway plan and i cant even switchto other Isp as the local cable provider has a monopoly in my area check out the plans for hathway mumbai and banglore here: Broadband Internet - Hathway |

Airtel HD+ - Query on using existing hard drive partition Posted: 02 Oct 2013 11:58 PM PDT Hello Techie folks,
Yesterday, I upgraded to Airtel HD+, which allows us to connect to an external usb storage and record programs.
I have a query that I am hoping to get a resolution on this forum.
I have a 1 TB USB external hard drive which is partioned into 4 drives of roughly 250gb each. I plan to use one partition for HD+ STB. However, as soon as I plug in my hard drive to STB and switch it ON, it asks me to 1) Format drive 2) Go back.
I cannot format the drive, because it carries useful data and run beyond 600 gigs, which I cannot back-up somewhere else, even temporararily. I can't just lose the data (believe me, they are not movies).
I just wish that the STB should prompt me with the drive name, once I select it to format. But, I cannot try this, because, if it doesn't prompts me and formats the entire 1 TB drive, I'll be in soup.
So, if any of you have tried to connect a partitioned hard drive to HD+ STB, could you please share your experience?
Is there any way out?
Thanks in advance.

Feedback on Smartlink broadband [Mumbai] Posted: 02 Oct 2013 11:07 PM PDT Hello everyone! a friend of mine lives at Bhandup, Mumbai. he was in search of an ISP, when he came to know of the name in subject. the name was new for me too, hence did a google search. couldn't find much, except some mixed feedback on justdial (can't say for sure about authenticity of the feedback there). the ISP is based in Powai, and is a cable net provider. they have attractive plans (unltd), esp. the newly introduced 4 mbps unltd plan in just 1000/-. sounds too good to be true (and hence seems dubious)! could anyone having any experience with them please provide some suggestions? thanks! Is MTNL really offering FTTH or is it FTTC ? Posted: 02 Oct 2013 10:42 PM PDT Hello
i live in Thane and had registered somw months ago for FTTH after seeing ad in papers. after several months i git a call from local mtnl exchange that they want to come home to install . what they actually did was to set up a normal tel line from some box outside the building cliaiming this was the FTTh cable and next day they connected a modem (without wifi) ARGT 1000 from Alphion Coporation and left. As i was traveling on the days they came, only my wife was at home and these guys told her that everything is set up and they tested speed and it is 5 mbps. when i returned from my tour, i was surprised to see a normal tel line connected to the modem and the speed was just about 50 kbps !! I lodged a compliant and next day the technician came (again when i was not at home) and did something and left. that day i got a speed of 400 kbps but since then the connection stopped working. the "internet" light on the modem come on. I lodged complaint again and even sopke to the officer in Prabhadevi exchange but no remedy so far. they dont seem to know anything.
question is:
any of you have similar experience ? what was your connection (did they put the ONT in your home) or just a tel line / what type of modem/router did you get and what speeds are you able to get? did they give a wifi router or non wifi ?
i did some internet search and could not find anything (not one single hit) about this ARGT-1000 router !
from what i read on internet this type of connection is called Fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) - running fibre optic cables from the telephone exchange or distribution point to the street cabinets which then connect to a standard phone line to provide broadband. is mtnl really giving FTTH or only FTTC ?
what type of modem is the correct one ? i believe the normal ADSL modems will not work with FTTH/FTTc and we have to go for VDSL modems - is this true ? if so which are good VDSL modems ?
any feedback/comments appreciated

Posted: 02 Oct 2013 09:46 PM PDT Friends, instead of starting new thread for each news, I thought of opening a separate thread for F1 news. So, here I start... Standardising Formula One machinery Five-year FIA cost-culling plan revealed 15/10/08 A British newspaper has revealed the FIA's five-year plan to radically slash costs, with the body's president arguing Formula One has become 'unsustainable'. The centrepiece of the package, to be discussed with the F1 teams' alliance FOTA next week in Geneva, is the standardisation of expensive car parts that add little to the show. The London publication The Times claims that Bernie Ecclestone, the Chief Executive of F1's commercial rights holder, backs the Max Mosley-devised plan to 'dramatically' cut costs. Among the measures is the introduction of a controversial standard engine design for 2010, additional energy recovery systems and fuel-efficient engines for 2013, and many 'common parts' for the chassis. "We are completely open to new ideas," Mosley, albeit insisting that engines must be made available to small teams at a low cost, said in a letter to the team bosses. An FIA spokesman said he will not comment prior to the meeting. F1 : Standardising Formula One machinery - FIA - F1-Live.com |
Red Bull Racing News and Updates Posted: 02 Oct 2013 09:46 PM PDT RBR signs Vettel for 2009 Thursday, 17 July 2008 13:21 Red Bull Racing has confirmed that it has signed Sebastian Vettel to partner Mark Webber in its 2009 driver line-up. A vacancy opened up at the Milton Keynes-based squad following David Coulthard's decision to retire at the end of this season, and Vettel has been widely tipped for promotion from Red Bull's 'B' team Toro Rosso. However there has also been speculation that RBR was trying to entice double world champion Fernando Alonso away from Renault, but the Spaniard remains non-committal about his plans for next year and has been linked to a move to Ferrari in 2010. Team principal Christian Horner said he was confident that, despite Vettel's youth and relative inexperience, the 21-year-old German was the right choice. "We are delighted that Sebastian will be joining us next year," said Horner. "With David Coulthard announcing his retirement as a Formula 1 driver a fortnight ago at the British Grand Prix, after careful consideration, it seemed natural to announce his replacement here at Sebastian's home race in Hockenheim. "As he was already part of the Red Bull family, choosing Sebastian as Mark Webber's team-mate was not a difficult decision. RBR signs Vettel for 2009 - F1 | ITV Sport |
