Static IP improves service drastically Posted: 21 Sep 2013 01:55 AM PDT From past few days my service was just pathetic. i am having a 2mbps unlimited plan on which download speed was 2mbps but the upload speed was around 400kbps. There were issues of packet drop and high pings. So a guy from tikona suggested me that i should take the static IP service and there will be huge change in your service. And guess what he was correct.
Benifits 1. No login page ever. 2. Connect as many PC with your Wifi router. 3. download speed of 3.5 mbps 4. upload speed of 2mbps 5. super low pings. 6. no packet drop.
Drawbacks 1. you will have to shell out Rs1500 a year. |

A Few Concerns Regarding the New 50MBps Plans Posted: 21 Sep 2013 01:37 AM PDT Hey,
I've been a subscriber since Oct of last year (187792) and am currently on the ACT BB DOUBLE PREMIUM plan which is 10MBps till 75GB. I am considering switching to the new ACT BB SOHO Value plan which is 50MBps till 250GB for Rs. 3299 p/m. I currently have two concerns:
1. Why is the post-FUP speed 2MBps when we are paying more than Hyderabad who has a post-FUP speed of 6MBps? 2. Will I be able to switch back to my current plan if I decide the 50MBps plan is not worth it? I absolutely detest the current roster of plans so I do not want to choose between my current plan and a 25MBps plan.
Thanks guys,

Posted: 21 Sep 2013 01:34 AM PDT Hi all,
1. People out there who own ACT broadband, please share your upload speeds with the location you stay in.
2. Are there differences in speed during different times of the day or between weekdays and weekends ?

Posted: 20 Sep 2013 02:50 PM PDT I was looking to buy a tablet and saw a Nexus 7 with Wi-Fi and 3G 2013 version at a great price and sorta impulse bought the item. Bad decision. The item was not shipped for 5 days, the scamsters website was blocked by my antivirus and the guy insisted the tab had a sim slot when infact the Cellular version is yet to be launched.
No real damages done financially as the refund has been initiated by the system, apart from losing a week and a half, I guess.
MORAL : Stay away from new sellers, I know some or what the heck most may be legit, but its not worth it. And if something is too good to be true, it probably is. |

Telephone dead but ADSL stable Posted: 20 Sep 2013 01:35 PM PDT Prior to this both the tel and ADSL were down, and there was a lot disturbance on the my tel line for a few days which caused very poor speeds and pages not loading properly. And the line gradually went down, I keep the receiver off for a stable connection and I could see the phone light blinking along with a tick like noise and the line would die for a moment along with ADSL and then come back.
The line man rang up my phone from the pole and it was a very subdued ring, you could barely hear it ringing, first time it died as soon as I picked it up, second time, I picked it up and it was dead again, no light, nothing but after a few seconds it came alive and I could hear the lineman asking me if the phone was ok now... I said yes it appears to be... but within half an hour the phone was dead again after the usual fluctuation but ADSL is completely stable although speed isn't good.
The line outside my house is without any joints although it is a very thin wire which they are using, and then there is another thin wire connecting the outside line to my modem and phone... I tried changing the splitter too but it did not help.
I need some help please before I call the lineman again to explain the problem.
Here is my line quality data : SNR Margin 30.0db 8.5db dB Line Attenuation 29.5db 21.0db dB Loss of Signal 0 0 CRC Errors 0 0 Data Rate 2055 Kbps 287 Kbps |

VOD not working through WiFi Netgear Dongle Posted: 20 Sep 2013 12:21 PM PDT I've configured my WiFi Netgear Dongle (Netgear WNCE2001) to my WiFi Internet connection. Dongle successfully connects to the WiFi router and I'm able to browse the internet using that. Router is configured with DHCP enabled in PPPoE mode. When I connect to the Tata Sky HD+ STB, the IP connection is showing successful and interestingly it's listing all the available titles under VOD. But if I give any programme for download, it never downloads. It always stuck at 0%. I've tried connecting STB directly to the router using ethernet cable. There is absolutely no issue with downloading and everything works fine. So it cannot be direct issue with the ISP provider. May not be any issue with STB also, since it's downloading when connected directly. As I mentioned before, I tried connecting to internet using the dongle, there is no issue with that browsing. So I'm not suspecting any issue with Dongle able to work with ISP provider. Can anyone help me point out where else can it go wrong? Am I missing something here?? What speed do you get in wifi file transfers? Posted: 20 Sep 2013 11:48 AM PDT Well, i have a DNA a212 wifi modem+router from mtnl, and WAN speed is upto mtnl but the LAN speed is max 54 Mbps (b = BITS) which is Link speed(right?)
I was transferring movie file of 700 mb from PC to my canvas HD (External SD - Class 4) via ES File explorer wirelessly and i was getting just 150KBps (0.14MBps) (B = Bytes), atrocious! So, i googled and found some tweaks in Wireless settings and changed few settings (Below)
after that, transfer speed was increased to 800 KBps (0.78 MBps) (good, right?) Also, Airdroid became much faster.
But this left me wondering, if i have 54Mbps wireless router which theoretically can transfer 6.75 MBps (MegaBytes) and taking all noise, wireless efficiency, other issues, etc, I should get atleast 1/3rd of the ideal speed(6.75 MBps) i.e around 2.25 MBps. as compare to my improved speed of 0.78 MBps
Not a Networking savvy, so please share some views, is 800KBps speed is quite well with my DNA-A212 ? |

How to use Bonus/Kitty Points to buy MOD? Posted: 20 Sep 2013 11:06 AM PDT The crazy DishTV site has no information on how I can use my Kitty points to order Movies on Demand. I read on another forum that these bonus points expire in 3-6 months. I have like 800+ points and thought would use them to order Movies on the weekends. Such a crappy site they have.... |
