NEW DELHI: Using the internet may become up to 30 per cent costlier as the department of telecom on Friday issued corrigendum to the new telecom licences agreement bringing revenue from these services under its cess net.

As per the initial version of the unified licence on August 2, DoT had exempted internet services revenue from adjusted gross revenue (AGR) — part of telecom company's earnings on which annual licence fee is levied.

It had said that AGR will be calculated after deducting revenue from pure internet (access and content) services, sales tax paid to the government and roaming revenue paid to other operators from the total revenue earned by telecom service providers.

However, in the corrigendum on calculation of AGR DoT has said: "Revenue from Pure Internet Service under heading B-Deduct stands deleted."

Under the new licences, telecom operators (including internet services providers) will have to pay uniform licence fee of 8 per cent annually on AGR.

The Internet Service Providers Association of India has warned the step would lead to hike in consumer rates by up to 30 per cent.

ISPAI president Rajesh Chharia said the move is a "major setback in broadband penetration specially in rural India, as there will be cascading effect and license fee on multi point will increase broadband price by 30 per cent".

He added that ISPs are in bad condition already and this will worsen their situation.

"The whole internet broadband business will become pure monopolistic, which is not good at all for the country. Only 1 or 2 big player will survive and they will take the benefit of monopoly market," Chharia said.

All new telecom services providers are required to take unified licence, while existing companies will have to migrate to the new licence on expiry of their permits for continuing their business.

According to recent report by analytics firm comScore, India has by passed Japan to become the world's third largest Internet user after China and the US with 74 million Internet users.

As per telecom regulator Trai, there were 15.13 million subscribers at the end of May.

Need to connect 2 computer on bridge mode for internet

Hi,

    I am using airtel 8mbps plan. I need to share it with 2 pc's (wireline connection via ethernet) via a beetle 220bx modem. I want the dialer mode (bridge mode) and not PPPOE mode. Is it possible to use beetle 220bx modem and use the ethernet line for one pc and USB cable for other pc?.

 

I will not use a wifi modem. If the 220bx wil not work then a multiple port modem work in bridge mode(dialer mode). I want to store the password in the pc and not the modem for security.

Mtnl Not Inreasing the speed

Hi,

Recently I have change my  Mtnl Delhi Plan from UL-599 to UL-999

But I am only getting 512kbps, net speed is not inreased to !mbps as per new plan.

I have double checked htey have changes my plan to UL-999

So, any help regarding this is much appreciated

I choose Beam Fiber after I got many recommendations from my friends that no other broadband service providers are providing better services. So... without delaying, I chose Beam. Immediately a sales executive came... and gave me Briefing about plans and options... according to my usage, I thought I will go for the most minimum plan B-max 399 to test the speed. I have been using this for the last 4 months without issue. Now I want to upgrade as I am very happy with the service. Beam fiber delivered what they promised... I have heard that the customer care is really bad, and i did have an experience with them but it was only once and the prob got resolved. I think it is a small price to pay for the amazing speed...

Goverment considering shutting down Petrol pumps at 8PM to check Fuel Consumption

The government is considering various proposals including shutting down petrol pumps at 8 pm to check fuel demand as it looks at ways to cut the massive oil import bill, Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily said today. "It is just a proposal," Mr Moily said. His ministry plans to launch a six-week fuel conservation drive from September 16 to cut demand by three per cent and save an estimated Rs. 16,000 crore in foreign exchange.

We moved to Laxma Reddy Nagar 8 months ago, from day 1 we could not watch some channles  on Hathway from morning  to Evening around 6 due to poor signal. We are tired of complaining but our Local Cable Operator doesn't care a bit.

Hi,
I had disconnected Tikona wibro services due to their worst service, I had the connection for 1 year. almost 2 months i did not have connection, they cheated almost my 3 months amount.
I had paid all my bills and paid extra amount. they only need to pay me. they get advance amount for 3000 for the further 3 months, it is for forcing the customer to stay for that period before disconnection. for the advance amount they send bill amount which they are forcing me to pay. after paying my bills in the month of march 2013. i have to wait till june for disconnection. which i had done prior to the end date cos i don't want this cheap service guys to be with me any more. they sent acknowledgement for no dues and also for CPE removal.

Battery drain after updating to 4.3 (nexus 7 wifi 2012)

Yesterday I updated my  nexus 7 wifi to 4.3 and did a full tablet reset. But now the battery drains much faster and It took just 2 hours to go from 100% to 10% after heavy usage. 

 

Even when not used, It drains around 5% in half an hour. Earlier I used to get much better backup but now It got worse. Seems like display is using around 77% battery even when the brightness is set to least possible setting and and with daydream turned off.

This is a vote to find out how much electricity we consume, and how are we doing in terms of our CO2 emissions. The vote is not simple, you will have to make some effort, here is how to calculate your kwh/sqft/year:

1. Add all yourl units from your electrical bills of last 12 months. This is your total-Kwh.
2. Find your house's carpet area (carpet-sqft)

kwh/sqft/yr = total-kwh/carpet-sqft

You will be amazed with the figure that you arrive and where it is on the various green scales. Please do vote once you have the figure, else we wont get a true picture of how we are doing as a community.

The stars does not refer to any consortium, in India we do not yet have a star rating for residences based on electrical consumption, it is only for reference sake.
