Vodafone India Hutch Acquisition Taxation Fiasco Posted: 05 Aug 2013 02:49 AM PDT NEW DELHI: With the Income Tax Authorities raising a demand for Rs 12,000 crore tax, telecom giant Vodafone on Saturday asserted that no tax was payable on the USD 11.1 billion deal it did with Hutchison in 2007. The mobile operator also said it is considering to appeal to the Bombay High Court to legally challenge the claims of the IT department. The Income Tax department on Friday had asked Vodafone to explain why it should not be taxed Rs 12,000 crore for its USD 11.1 billion deal with Hong Kong-based Hutchison in 2007 for acquiring its assets (majority stake) in the Indian joint venture with Essar. "Vodafone is considering its next move, which includes an appeal to the Bombay High Court -- as per the Supreme Court's decision -- to legally challenge the validity of the order on the preliminary issue of jurisdiction," Vodafone said. The tax authorities had called Vodafone for a hearing on June 14, 2010, to discuss the potential quantification of any tax on the Hutchison acquisition. "Whilst an amount of tax has been suggested by the tax authorities, it is important to note that this is not a demand for payment... Vodafone remains confident that there is no tax to pay on this transaction," it added. The dispute concerns Vodafone Group Plc's acquisition of a 67 per cent stake in Hutchison Essar from Hong Kong's Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd. The I-T department is of the opinion that the transaction is taxable in the country. Earlier, Vodafone had also approached the Supreme Court, which had refused to intervene in the tax dispute between the telecom firm and the I-T department and had asked the department to check whether it has the jurisdiction to proceed further in the tax case. Vodafone had paid USD 11.1 billion for Hutchison's 67 per cent stake in Hutchison-Essar (since renamed Vodafone Essar) in 2007. The government approved the deal in May, 2007, itself. After regulatory clearances were given, the tax department issued a show-cause notice to Vodafone saying the company did not deduct tax, estimated at around USD 2 billion. In 2007, Vodafone received a show-cause notice asking why it had not done this. Following this, the company approached the Bombay High Court. After the high court dismissed Vodafone's petition challenging the I-T department's notice, the company moved the Supreme Court in January, 2009. The Supreme Court granted Vodafone the right of appeal to the Bombay High Court if it disagreed with the tax authorities' determination. Posted: 05 Aug 2013 01:38 AM PDT I had a thought that Vodafone being one of largest telecom enterprise will be providing nice services, at least in the state capital. But from the beining i am having problem with vodafone's frequent call drops. Their high call rates would be bearable if the call drops get minimal. May any one suggest me service provider with reasonable competive call rate (without any RC) at Delhi ? |

Red Bull Racing News and Updates Posted: 05 Aug 2013 01:35 AM PDT RBR signs Vettel for 2009 Thursday, 17 July 2008 13:21 Red Bull Racing has confirmed that it has signed Sebastian Vettel to partner Mark Webber in its 2009 driver line-up. A vacancy opened up at the Milton Keynes-based squad following David Coulthard's decision to retire at the end of this season, and Vettel has been widely tipped for promotion from Red Bull's 'B' team Toro Rosso. However there has also been speculation that RBR was trying to entice double world champion Fernando Alonso away from Renault, but the Spaniard remains non-committal about his plans for next year and has been linked to a move to Ferrari in 2010. Team principal Christian Horner said he was confident that, despite Vettel's youth and relative inexperience, the 21-year-old German was the right choice. "We are delighted that Sebastian will be joining us next year," said Horner. "With David Coulthard announcing his retirement as a Formula 1 driver a fortnight ago at the British Grand Prix, after careful consideration, it seemed natural to announce his replacement here at Sebastian's home race in Hockenheim. "As he was already part of the Red Bull family, choosing Sebastian as Mark Webber's team-mate was not a difficult decision. RBR signs Vettel for 2009 - F1 | ITV Sport |

Fernando Alonso News and Updates Posted: 05 Aug 2013 01:34 AM PDT Fernando Alonso topped the timesheets on his return to Renault today at Jerez lapping the Spanish circuit a tenth clear of countryman Pedro de la Rosa. It was an impressive return to the team for Alonso as he put in 70 laps with a best time of 1:19.503s. It was a busy day for the McLaren Mercedes team with de la Rosa putting in 111 laps in his MP4-23 while Kovalainen sixth fastest, completed 130 laps in the new machine. Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa were third and fifth fastest respectively for Ferrari with Nico Rosberg running well in his FW29 with the fourth fastest time. Sebastian Vettel and Sebastien Bourdais proved closely matched for Toro Rosso Ferrari with the seventh and eighth fastest times while Mark Webber was ninth best in the Red Bull Renault. Kazuke Nakajima rounded out the top ten in his Williams Toyota ahead of Timo Glock in the leading Toyota TF108 and Giancarlo Fisichella in the Force India Ferrari. Kamui Kobayashi brought up the bottom of the timesheets in the second Toyota while Super Aguri Honda did not run after problems encountered yesterday. Renault continued its preparations for 2008 today with Fernando Alonso taking over driving responsibilities from Nelson Piquet. It was an important day as it was Alonso's first appearance in Renault colours since being confirmed as a 2008 race driver in December. Arriving at the Jerez circuit yesterday evening, the Spaniard spoke to the engineers to understand how the first day of the programme had gone, and to prepare for his two days work with the team. His first day behind the wheel gave the Spaniard the opportunity to drive a car in accordance with the 2008 electronic regulations, and most significantly without traction control. It was also a good opportunity to reacclimatise to the team with which he has worked for six years in the past. At the end of the session, having covered 70 laps, the overall result was an encouraging first day as Alonso topped the timesheet with a best lap of 1:19.503s. Fernando Alonso "The result of my first day in the car is encouraging. I could not wait to drive again, but at the same time I was a bit tentative. I quickly settled back in to the team and everything went well. We made good progress throughout the day, but there is a lot still to do. I had to adapt at first to the car and get used to driving the car without traction control, but I am convinced that that soon I will be used to this and will not remember what is was like to drive with traction control." |

Frequent Disconnection / ADSL blinking Issue on MTNL Broadband Posted: 05 Aug 2013 01:03 AM PDT Hi, I am a user of 849NU plan of MTNL Triband service since August based out of Navi Mumbai. All of August, i was very happy to have a lovely connection and good speeds, with a pretty good tariff. But now since the past 15 days I am suffering from very intermittent net connection. Although I am connected to the internet, sometimes the webpages take ages to open, and never open, while at other times it opens instantly. Also downloading has the same pattern, sometimes I get very good speeds of upto 200 Kbps, while other times there is no download. Although all download sites show good Triband Speed, but it is the intermittent connection that is the problem. This problem has crept up in the last 15 odd days, and I have tried everything but no change has been noticed. Has anyone else faced a similar problem, and if yes, whats the work around. The people at MTNL classify this as a slow connection problem, but that is exactly not the issue, as I do get good speeds intermittently. Somebody please help me. |

Same scam. Textual content costs them nothing. You would pay when you load images and links. Freaking nuisance. Of course, on Android devices, you would end up paying a lot more for background internet activity as well. If you are already paying for a data plan, your savings would be negligible. |

ACT broadband Bangalore worst service Posted: 04 Aug 2013 10:43 PM PDT I am a customer of ACT broadband for last six months, i opted for 15 Mbps 40 GB plan, from 1st of this month i started experiencing .38-.44 mbps speed, i lodged a complaint and the feedback i received are really funny
1. I utilised 40 GB in four hours of previous day , i don't know whether that is possible by anyone to use- No auto updates are on and i requested them, which website or to which ip the system was connected and used this ? No reply from them
2. Then the customer service executive told, i might have used a router without password, the funniest part is There is no router at my home and i connect the cable directly to one PC
3. I also heard similar issue from my friends, ACT is not a reliable service provider, This is the problem with the unknown brands, you get a grievance redressal .
I DON'T SUGGEST "ACT BROADBAND" IN BANGALORE FOR ANY ONE LOOKING FOR A NEW BROADBAND CONNECTION
Thanks, Ashok

Posted: 04 Aug 2013 10:38 PM PDT Massa ties the knot ![]() On Friday, Felipe Massa and his girlfriend Rafaela Bassi got married in Sao Paulo. The pair made their wedding vows in the Nossa Senora do Brasil church with Jean Todt, Stefano Domenicali, Mario Almondo, Aldo Costa, Luca Baldisserri and Luca Colajanni attending the ceremony. Of course Nicolas Todt, the manager of Massa, could not be missed during the wedding. F1technical wants to congratulate Felipe and Rafaela with their marriage! F1Technical.net: Massa ties the knot (Powered by TotalF1.com) Former Champ: Schu could return to racing Saturday 1st December 2007 ![]() Former F1 Champion Alan Jones reckons Michael Schumacher may be considering a comeback after an impressive test at Barcelona two week's ago. Although Schumacher retired from F1 at the end of the 2006 season, the German returned to action with Ferrari at the Spanish track in the first of the winter tests. The seven-time World Champion proved to be the man to beat as he dominated the timesheets during his two days of testing. And although Schumacher has stated many times that his test does not mean he will be making a competitive comeback, Jones reckons the thought has to have crossed Schumi's mind. "After nearly a year out of the saddle, I can image him thinking, 'Maybe I'd like to have another go.' It must be just like coming back from an extended Christmas break," Jones told Autosport. "He used to take a couple of months off at the end of each season, so another few months won't make a big difference. Two or three years might have done. "It's a win-win situation: Ferrari gains from his expertise and he enjoys it. And you can never rule out a comeback - he might be thinking, 'I'm really enjoying this!' Money won't be his motivation, it will be to prove a point. "Niki Lauda was out for several seasons and came back and won the title. Michael could do the same." Schumacher misses Massa's wedding day Dec.3 (GMM) A representative for Michael Schumacher has played down speculation that he may have fallen out with his former Ferrari teammate Felipe Massa. In the presence of many of his Ferrari colleagues, 26-year-old married his fiancee Rafaela Bassi, who is 27, in Sao Paulo last Friday, according to reports from Brazil and Italy. Among the 800 guests were team bosses Jean Todt and Stefano Domenicali, as well as Mario Almondo, Aldo Costa and Luca Baldisserri -- but not Schumacher, his 2006 teammate. Massa's countryman Rubens Barrichello also attended, reports said. Days earlier, the former seven time world champion, Schumacher, won a karting event hosted by Massa in the southern Brazilian city of Florianopolis. The German newspaper Bild am Sonntag said Schumacher had celebrated Massa's impending marriage with his former teammate and friend in the days prior. A representative for Schumacher said: "Michael is currently in the United States for a family vacation." |
