Buying and Selling products through OLX Posted: 20 Aug 2013 03:18 AM PDT I am giving it a second try. I listed my 2012 Google Nexus 7 3G 2 days ago. Just got one query. But as expected, it was quite absurd. He wants me to drop the price 40%. Claims to have Google as his client. Says Google is offering him the 2013 edition of the 3G variant for Rs. 18000 (US price is going to be above Rs. 22000). It's fun. I told him to get it because it is an excellent deal. He said he is planning on getting that but wanted a backup device for testing. I am assuming he is an Android developer and if he is right, Google seems to be offering the new model at pretty amazing prices to developers here in India even before it is launched in the US market.
Listed two more products for variety. I know people here have had much success with OLX. Share your stories! |

MTNL 3G 1650 Post paid Montly Data limit for unlimied plan ? Posted: 20 Aug 2013 02:36 AM PDT HI For the postpaid 1650 monthly unlimited plan is there any data limit ? i heard that there is a 200 GB limit for the month what happens when you cross 200GB ? Thanks |
Tata FTTH broadband artificially throttling download speeds to half from ISP Posted: 20 Aug 2013 02:36 AM PDT I have recently taken a Tata Docomo FTTH broadband 16Mbps connection in Bangalore. I discovered that I am not getting 16Mbps when trying to download large single file and it is being capped at 8Mbps. But if I try multiple files download (from the same site) , the cumulative BW I get from these multiple downloads is very close to 16Mbps .
I tried this with a 2GB file (Win7 SP1) and then again with large multi part download of the same files from microsoft.com.
It seems that they are artificially throttling download speeds of single downloads (or may be any TCP sessions) to 8Mbps . This is definitely frustating because :
1. This caveat was not mentioned in their plans . 2. It does hamper large single download (movie, OS ISO image etc.) speeds. Maybe even streaming content (Youtube). 3. I was on Airtel FTTH before and they did not have this issue.
When I contacted technical team they came back with a lame excuse that single files usually "encounter" such issues and it is really a problem of the destination web servers and not Tata Docomo ! What BS !!
Anybody else experienced this ?

MTNL VDSL Installation queries Posted: 20 Aug 2013 02:21 AM PDT I'm a MTNL triband user and thinking to shift to VDSL. Have some queries: 1. What are the installation charges including the set up, the wiring and the one-time deposits? 2. Is it necessary to keep a telephone or can I get rid of it as nobody uses land-line here. If I cannot get rid of it, then what's the monthly charge for the telephone? 3. What is the monthly charge for the VDSL wireless router? |

GSM 2G network Shutdown, Transition to 4G -VoLTE Posted: 20 Aug 2013 01:54 AM PDT How to Track 2G Network Shutdown AT&T, which is shutting down its 2G network three years earlier than other networks, has launched a website to geographically track the shutdown. By Jason Knott The transition to 3G/4G wireless from 2G cellular networks is beginning early at AT&T. The telecom giant has launched a new website to geographically track the migration, which will begin on January 1, 2017.
Integrators that have installed primary or secondary cellular monitoring modules in their alarm panels need to begin swapping out those modules or clients will lose their communications. The website does not yet contain the geographic tracking mechanism, but AT&T has informed the Central Station Alarm Association that will be an element on the site. Other wireless networks have announced that they will not begin shutting down 2G until 2020, but AT&T says its early move is necessitated by the extreme amount of data clogging its network. "Our data traffic has grown at a staggering rate—by 30,000 percent from 2007-2012 - and will continue to increase dramatically in the foreseeable future," AT&T notes. "Migrating to faster, higher-capacity networks will help us ensure that we're using our available bandwidth as efficiently as possible to serve all our customers." In cases where the AT&T owned and operated 2G network is being shut down earlier than the original 2020 date, AT&T says it will be communicating in advance with those given markets. Meanwhile, manufacturer Telguard has created a website that plans to track information from all the carriers. |

Modem Router that works both on BSNL & ACT Broadband Posted: 20 Aug 2013 01:07 AM PDT HI, I'm currently using BSNL BB with BSNL modem, since couple of months connection is getting worse day by day. I'm planning to move to ACT BB in couple of months, prior to that I would like to change the modem which works both on BSNL and ACT BB.
Let me know whether "TP-LINK TD-W8968 300 Mbps Wireless N USB ADSL2+ Modem Router" works on both? or suggest me any other. Thank you. |

How many devices can I connect to Tikona Broadband? Posted: 20 Aug 2013 12:34 AM PDT I have a Tikona broadband connection of HYDM4096. I want to share the connection with 5 laptops. I have an old D-link DWL-G700AP wireless access point device and i am able to get a wireless access point using the same and in the lan port i have connected the RJ-45 pin from the base of the tikona unit. I am able to access internet in the laptops but the problem is I have to login to tikona from each of them separately. Thus i can only connect 3 laptops simultaneously. The rest two shows authentication error when i login. So do i need a router to connect to tikona using all the 5 laptops simultaneously. I have searched the net and liked this router TP-LINK TL-WR740N but the problem is i am not sure if a router will solve my problem. So please help me here. Should I buy this router. Will it enable me to connect all 5 laptops simutaneously? |

Posted: 20 Aug 2013 12:05 AM PDT Help...!!
I'm in midst of backing up about 2TB of data through my WLAN network to a portable disk connected to a desktop.
Now here is the thing. On my 54mbps router even on LAN the throughput is no more than 10-11 mbps.
Following are the wifi router settings.
1. Encryption - WPA2-PSK-AES 2. Channel - 13. No wifi interfering networks on this channel. 3. Transmit Power - HIgh 4. 802.11g.
About 4 other devices connected to the network, however, no way these are using more than 100kbps at any given time. Also, distance from the router to all devices is less than 15 meters, and are in the line of sight of the router - hence no physical obstruction.
Any ideas how to increase the network throughput, from current 10-11 mbps to atleast 40mbps. |

Posted: 19 Aug 2013 09:32 PM PDT Friends, instead of starting new thread for each news, I thought of opening a separate thread for F1 news. So, here I start... Standardising Formula One machinery Five-year FIA cost-culling plan revealed 15/10/08 A British newspaper has revealed the FIA's five-year plan to radically slash costs, with the body's president arguing Formula One has become 'unsustainable'. The centrepiece of the package, to be discussed with the F1 teams' alliance FOTA next week in Geneva, is the standardisation of expensive car parts that add little to the show. The London publication The Times claims that Bernie Ecclestone, the Chief Executive of F1's commercial rights holder, backs the Max Mosley-devised plan to 'dramatically' cut costs. Among the measures is the introduction of a controversial standard engine design for 2010, additional energy recovery systems and fuel-efficient engines for 2013, and many 'common parts' for the chassis. "We are completely open to new ideas," Mosley, albeit insisting that engines must be made available to small teams at a low cost, said in a letter to the team bosses. An FIA spokesman said he will not comment prior to the meeting. F1 : Standardising Formula One machinery - FIA - F1-Live.com |
