Lol....500Gb was the upper limit....might never end up getting close to that.So realistically say about 300 gigs....
And yeah running the pc 24x7 does rack up the electricity bill but there were no other alternatives...until now :P
Also electricity is more expensive in Gurgaon when compared to Mumbai.

Yeah...one of my life goals is to migrate out of this country to either Sweden/Finland :P

Two wireless modems on a single connection?

Posted: 29 Aug 2010 02:00 AM PDT

Hi

I have an MTNL broadband conneciton at home with a wireless modem. The problem is that the wirelss modem is in one room.. and the signal does not reach in the other rooms. All 3 bedrooms have the sockets for phone connection and I have to physically move the wireless modem to the other rooms for the internet to work there, defeating the wholepurpose of a wireless mdoem. I have tried making signal boosters, but hardly of any use since the layout of the house does not allow the signal to reach the other rooms and placing the modem at a central location isn't possible as well.

Is there a way of connecting 2 wireless modems that can be connected on two different sockets of the same phone line in different rooms and both connect to the internet using the same broadband connection.

Or is there any other way by which I can solve this problem?

Thanks
Salil

Is pingtest.net mumbai server screwed.

Posted: 29 Aug 2010 01:47 AM PDT

But Hathway is not that reliable I've heard....or is it? Mostly what I've heard regarding it is negative xD.

So what can I infer from your post, socrates?

Is it the that MTNL is facing a problem or is OpenDNS having problems xD Probably not that mumbai server since pinak is getting awesome *drools* ping!.

They are showing it on ZEE sports .... Alas TS has left us all down again :(

---------- Post added at 02:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:07 PM ----------

I called them up and they dont have plans to add Zee sports anytime soon.. And they wont, considering all the liga matches are late night and has much lower TR than the EPL.. So have to watch Messi only on the internet.

[QUESTION] Need an Urgent Help on WI-FI!

Posted: 29 Aug 2010 01:16 AM PDT

Hi..
Im on a 8mbps BSNL broadband plan.

Well here is the problem.

I have a 4 storey building. My office is on the ground floor and my residence on the 4th floor, top.
The whole internet and broadband setup is done in the office.
Earlier, I was using NetGear WGR614 , and it worked fine, when I used to goto the top 4th floor and work in my bedroom, keeping the router and modem on 24x7 in the ground office room.
But the strength was low, around 2 bars , instead of the 4 bars.
Then I read somewhere, if we get the N router , then it can expand the 100% signal strength to around 200-500 metres area up down horizontal vertical, whatevr place.

So, I just went to the market and bought a DIR-615 after reading a lot about it.

But alas, after getting that, Im not able to even get the Wifi Signal out of that office room.

Its so frustrating.

In my wireless setup, I have set it up as G B and N , but still as soon as I go out of that room, the signal is gone and it says,no wireless networks on the iPhone.

I need it to reach 100% signal till my 4th floor bedroom.

So, what Am I missing ?

I need this sorted..

Guys just got a call from the CC, a lady spoke to me she said that the Add on packs can be deactivated after 30 days too. Also she said that the add on packs can be taken for quarterly period (90 days) which they have not mentioned properly.

Lets wait for sometime.

Posted: 28 Aug 2010 11:46 PM PDT

Update: It's been almost 15 days since I have taken the beam connection, so far no downtime or any issues till date, one day about 4-5 days ago in the morning hours for about 6-7 hrs the uploads speed was very slow just about 150 kbps but it got rectified automatically by late afternoon.
