Posted: 13 Jan 2011 02:39 AM PST The International and National grid doesn't really matter. The fact is that the retail arms of these companies have last mile over which they are capable of delivering 20, 30, 50 and 100mbit/s and *if* they decided to significantly reduce their prices at these speeds, then that may pose a competitive threat. Fivenet wasn't really a competitor until Diwali until they had the Diwali offer of 10mbit/s for Rs6k per year (plus tax and maintainence), and now they have some pretty nice New Year deals. My anticipation is that the only way this is sustainable is that the number of customers who availed this plan was a fairly insignificant amount of their customer base. If it becomes a general plan (it looks like it's becoming that way), then it would be interesting to see whether the quality of service suffers of simply whether the amount of customers using significant amounts of actual internet bandwidth is minimal or perhaps they've recently taken up a similar price to what we had been offered which gives them bandwidth at the equivalent of about Rs5 per GB, which would mean that Rs1k = 200GB (since they don't include taxes or line charges in their price). Either way, it's one of the best offers available at the moment, and I do anticipate that by launch time I will have a clearer picture of our price relative to theirs and whether we will compete directly with them - but judging by the new years offers, they're anticipating that all people (whether on 2, 5 or 10mbit/s) will download approximately the same amount, since at all speeds the plans work out to 600-670 per month (plus taxes and maintenance charges). I think at the end of the day, if our wholesale prices come out to be what I'm expecting, then there would be no reason that our 10mbit/s price couldn't fall to Rs1500/month including taxes and everything would roughly match theirs, but until I have a firm launch date I can't give a definite figure for any of the plans, only the anticipated prices based on what we have now. Since other ISPs have no choice but to buy from these 3 companies, yes, I'd say that they're aware of it. Hard to say. I don't think any of them are waiting for LLU to happen - in fact my expectation is that they have all opposed it... why else would LLU have been squashed so many times in the past few years whenever it has been suggested? I don't really know how much expansion is happening on Airtel/Reliance/Tata's network, either - from where I sit their last-mile network growth appears somewhat stagnant, but that's not to say that I know everything - for all I know they could be adding a lakh of last mile copper a month and it's just not obvious to me, as I'm concentrating on my own last mile network at the moment.
Posted: 13 Jan 2011 02:38 AM PST well guys, i am diverting from topic. i also have similar problem. i had taken vodafone new connection on 31st decemb 2010 activated my blackberry plan 599 on 2nd jan 2011. 599 plan entitles me for free data usage as per cc executive. i had used internet agressivly till 3rd jan. check my unbilled amount on 4th and it had already shooted up to 1459 rs. got annoyed and called cc again. in reply i was told that u must have used data services and it has been counted in your unbilled amount. no issues it will be fortified once bill is generated. my bill has been genereated on 12 th jan 2011 and billed amount has come up to 2079 rs. made only 30 minutes of call which is anyways included in bill plan and did some blackberry surfing which is also included in blackberry plan and vodafone is throwing a bill of 2079 at my doorstep that too for 12 days. since final PDF is still not available for deep analasys, but already cc clreared saying it is all ur BB internet usage since your service has been deactivated on 6th jan on ur request and any deactivation done in the middle of bill cycle will make all ur bb data usage chargeble even wen the service was acitive. what nonsense is that? never heard of this. only thing i am aware that rental is charged for prorate basis mail already sent to nodal officer, but no reply.
Share Net without Affecting Latency!! Posted: 13 Jan 2011 02:26 AM PST Unlike my last thread.this is my connection only :) Previously i was using port 1 & port 4 of Serlite SAM300AX router to connect two of my pc's. Even if am surfing net/browsing web pages, my brother's (on other PC/port) games like counter strike get's LAG/ or LATENCY increases. :iomg: Is there a way by which i can completely isolate both the port. so one is not affected by other bandwidth usage. :) Tried some stuff like VLAN rather than improving it,it totally restricted net on both PC. or can some software for bandwidth distribution might help??

vodafone mobile connect and vodafone live unified into one ??? Posted: 13 Jan 2011 01:44 AM PST Hmm... triedthat, and tried APN as "Vodafone_www" and tried the settings here, but none work. Says connection failed due to incorrect APN settings. Tried messaging "VMC" to 52586 and "ACT VMC" to 144, but again no results really, just stupid messages telling me to send the same SMS to which they replied (makes no sense). Also tried "Reset to Default" in the APN settings, and it does show Vodafone Live and Vodafone MC, but again doesn't work. Anyway purchased the Rs. 95 bonus card online, and from what I hear it takes 4 hours to activate, so maybe I just need to wait till then. ---------- Post added at 03:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:32 PM ---------- Ok - randomly started to work! I guess the trick was to wait for some time for them to activate the Rs. 95 plan. Anyway browser, google maps and market working, so looks like Vodafone has finally combined Live and Mobile Connect! They just started sucking quite a bit less.....
BSNL 3G MODEM's for 2000 and 2500 Posted: 13 Jan 2011 01:29 AM PST yea you said it i also purchased a E1762 from him last month working fine for me. ---------- Post added at 02:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:56 PM ---------- bsnl at present modem is teracom comapny modem which not good for continuous use. Better go for huawei Modem. you can buy from the above mentioned dealer and you will get 3mbps around 1800rs and 7mbps at 2500rs.
BSNL 3G with Huawei E1762, poor surfing and frequent fluctuations Posted: 13 Jan 2011 01:20 AM PST My e1762 is working fine. I think the speed is not because of modem error because E1762 supports 7mbps. i touched about 6mbps speed. Just enquire if your neighbours getting this speed. i will explain a little imagine that a tower capacity is 100 users with 3.6mbps/user means total 360mbps capacity(tower) divided by 100 peoples imagine if there are 150users online then 360mbps/150peoples = 2.4mbps/person as average. If more users online you will get less speed. I think you understand it.

Zee DISH TV DTH Introduces Pick Your Pack Posted: 13 Jan 2011 01:11 AM PST I think this worthless. The channel prices are too high and way beyond expectation. TRAI ordered this operators to provide channels individually but forgot to fix the max. price. I think time has come for India to move on to 'triple play' services on fiber or copper and ditch this good for nothing DTH services. At least you can expect a guarantee on prices which is highly unlikely for DTH operations.
