[Planning] Internet distribution options for semi urban towns. Posted: 21 Dec 2010 02:33 AM PST Quote: Normally you'd put your transmitter on the highest hill, but there's also no reason you couldn't add relays here and there to bounce the signal around. The advantage of the technology in question is that each subscriber gets a dedicated channel. LOS issue keeps me in doubt. There are a couple of WISP operators in Patna. Trying to contact them and would pay a visit to get an overall idea of implementation. Ubiquiti airmax base station products and cpe looks good. I am keeping my mind open for all technologies and low cost implementations that wont hinder the future growth and expanding.

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 02:22 AM PST RUIM is the special sim card made to provide EVDO services. It is like a sim but it works only on CDMA/EVDO enabled data cards, routers & mobile phones. Currently in India BSnl Evdo, Tata Photon+, Reliance Netconnect+, & MTS Blaze provide data services using EVDO technology. But only BSNL offers its RUIM for sale which can be used with any open market device. No pvt. operators offers their ruim cards. They force you to purchase their own data card & in case if you change to any other EVDO operators you are forced to change your data card. But Bsnl gives you freedom. Before buying the RUIM please confirm brom the bsnl exchange whether you have EVDO enabled BTS in your area or not, else you will be getting only CDMA1X speeds(144kbps(18kBps)). Also you can enquire the SDE regarding whether it will support the 3G by GSM operators(i.e.HSDPA) as i am not sure on which frequency band does your device works.
Movies Now HD Channel Launched Posted: 21 Dec 2010 02:12 AM PST Agree, same feelings here. They should have launched after they had tied up with at least one DTH operator for HD distribution. Whats the point of claiming India's 1st HD movie channel when there is not a single operator carrying it on HD. One may produce anything in HD at home but cant claim it to be a national achievement till you actually reach out to the masses.

Wired connection or wireless 3G for unltd usage...pls advice ! Posted: 21 Dec 2010 01:54 AM PST do not go for Unlimited in 3G, it never happen , for publicity bsnl did that things for few more months , after no more unlimited , or if u get it then u can not even get 512kbps I recommend u Wimax , if BSNL wimax is availible in town , then go ahead , because in Rs750, u got unlimited upto 2mbps (they said minimum 512kbps) Is MTNL started the wimax service yet
Ten Cricket on Videocon D2H costs Rs. 30 per month Posted: 21 Dec 2010 01:33 AM PST Yes, cable is good in those aspects..... Let me tell u some of the features of my Cable Services - which i got rid of recently.....its Incablenet. 1) Since we dont have CAS in our area, we had flat Rs. 300 pm for all channels....(AND THAT STILL DIDNT HAVE STAR UTSAV - i watch few shows on it) 2) Most of the times, atleast 25% of the FREQUENTLY WATCHED channels showed me a message "Bad or No Signal".... 3) On the other FREQUENTLY WATCHED channels, the screen used to get stuck every 10-15 minutes......or, the screen would play in such a way giving u an effect of "Glass breaking"....there was a lot of Pixelation. 4) Cable Movie channels - U had rarely known movies running from morning to night......again on a print of the 1990s. 5) The Channel Guide - well it knew only 2 programs on most channels - 00:00 - 12:00 Channel Program 12:00 - 00:00 Channel Program..... If not this, then the channel would be showing program "A" & the guide will show that Program "Z" is being aired...... 6) Pathetic problem solving - if the STB didnt work at all, we had to call the cable guy, whose shop is just 2 mins from my home.......But he would take atleast half an hour to come...... 7) He was as arrogant as one could get. Other Technological issues of a cable Service - which i had to face here also.... 1) No HD.... 2) if 1 area in between has a power failure, we had to suffer. So, i was really desperate to kick him out......although there was Ten Cricket in Cable, ever since AUGUST......i didnt bother, coz i wanted to free myself of these issues.
Poor download Speed in BSNL 3G Posted: 21 Dec 2010 01:24 AM PST I am in Bangalore. I have HTC-HD2 handset. I too picked up BSNL 3G sim 8 months back.. and not even once I really enjoyed the 3G speed. I see full bars (even 3.5G), but the speedtest only shows max of 0.20 to 0.40 mbps. My number also starts from 94825. No idea what to do. Speaking to customer support is utter waste. Can anybody help? I am waiting for Airtel 3G.
How does CRBT - Caller Ringback Tone work ? Posted: 21 Dec 2010 12:59 AM PST Hello, I know the concept of CRBT - Caller tune. Out of my curiosity, I have few questions. I would be really thankful if someone can share their knowledge and provide inputs on it. - Mostly caller tunes are some movie songs (a part of that song). These songs are proprietary of music company. Now as our service provider (Airtel, Idea etc) uses these songs, do they need to pay some amount to Music companies ? Thanks in Advance
