| Maharashtra NavNirman Sena, Shivsena & Maharashtra Politics Posted: 21 Oct 2010 02:23 AM PDT My Hindi is much better than yours: Raj Thackeray - Mumbai - DNA Quote: I do not think it has to do only with political parties. Every section of our society is losing patience. It is always easy to point fingers at others. When you point at us, I would say the media is also losing its patience. Just think, a huge uproar followed my statement on Amitabh Bachchan. It was just one sentence in a half-hour speech. The news channel did not find anything else to highlight but that one sentence. I think every nation passes through such a phase. ... Till today, I have not done anything. I am yet to do something. Whatever I have said, I have no regret. I have never hurt anyone. Whatever I speak, I do it with complete honesty and thought. We all agree that Maharashtra is a cultured state. If I had said something which was uncultured, my candidates would not have got votes in the elections. But I think people like what I say and therefore I have my MLAs sitting in the assembly. Have you seen what is happening in Assam? North Indians have been murdered there, but nothing of that sort has happened here. My party and I are bringing issues, which have been sidelined purposely, to the forefront. ... I have never opposed a language. I can assure you that my Hindi is better than each and every person sitting in this room. My father was well-versed in Urdu as well, and I have learned from him. How can I stop a person from learning or speaking a particular language? That is his/her choice. But, when you are in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, then I would say you have to know Marathi. I am not the one who made states on the basis of language. But since that is how it is, I demand that everyone in Maharashtra know Marathi. The media created an uproar saying my son took up German as a subject in college, and he has studied in an English medium school. So what? He knows Marathi very well. I am not against learning new languages, but not at the cost of Marathi. Till today, we do not have a proper law which says Hindi is our national language. ... Why is there so much confusion when I speak? I have not heard of any confusion when leaders from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and West Bengal speak in their own languages. The media can give sub-titles for them, but not for me. Why? I say this again. I am not against any language. But the sense that "only Mumbai should be global and others could be local" will not work with me. Whether you give the credit to me or not, you cannot deny that Aamir Khan felt the need to learn Marathi only after my party created an atmosphere regarding the issue. Just look around, have you heard Narendra Modi even uttering the 'H' of 'Hindutva'? The only thing he talks of is 'Gujarat asmita'. Isn't that indicative? ... My party's name is Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and I have no ambition to join national politics. I do not dream of being the prime minister. I want to concentrate only on Maharashtra. If you ask me to work in Andhra, I will have to open a branch named Andhra Pradesh Navnirman Party, and I am not going to do that. I want to keep MNS as a regional party. ... I am not some kind of a saint. I am here for the cause of Marathi, but as far as the issue of Pakistan is concerned, you had better ask these questions to the family members of those who died in acts of terrorism. Inviting Pakistani actors to television shows is nothing but a way to create a controversy and raise TRP rankings. It's all business. The channels should first think of people who have lost their loved ones in wars. ... I agree that the common man is suffering there too. But India right now is in no position to think of the poor in Pakistan. There are millions dying in Africa too. I have not seen anyone raising his voice for them. Each country has to handle its own issue. India is not responsible for Pakistan's misery. Have you seen any initiative from their side? After so many efforts, Kargil happened. Isn't it true that Ajmal Kasab is from Pakistan? Then how can we trust them? Candle marches are not on my list. Tell the elite from Malabar Hill to do all these things. ... I might sound like I am exaggerating but give me the power. I am here to make a change. You will see that there is no fear among the authorities now. I am not here to terrorise people, but I do feel that there should be a sort of dhaak (fear) among them. Only then will the ward officers, police officers and politicians change their way of functioning. Today, no one has that dhaak. Have you ever seen a ward officer or a policeman getting suspended for doing wrong things? If the work is getting done, then I have no problem in creating that sense of fear. And this will not happen until and unless I have complete power. Traffic is another problem. I am going to follow the rules and make others follow the rules. Also, take the example of potholes. The corporation spends Rs60 crore every year just to repair roads. But, it is the contractor's responsibility not to let this happen. If I am governing things, I will introduce a special clause, making it the contractors' responsibility to repair the damaged roads. Why should the taxpayers' money be spent on work that he has already paid for? ... I am a partner in Matoshri Developers. But I do not look into the day-to-day matters of the company. As far as Kohinoor Mills is concerned, the land was sold because the owner of the National Textile Corporation (NTC) wanted to pay the mill workers' money. When Unmesh [Manohar Joshi's son] and I decided to bid for it, we had very little idea of the future. Our bid was chosen and then we had to search for an investor as you know, business is always done on others' money (laughs). But currently, we don't own the land, as it is with that investor [IL & FS]. And, I have no plans to again jump into buying any other mill land in future. ... Balasaheb, of course! I have travelled with him, have attended meetings, and have also heard him give fiery speeches. My style of speaking may look similar to his, and the reason is that I have spent quality time with him, learning a lot. There were others too, like comrade Shripad Dange and Acharya Atre. These people have made a deep impression on me. ... Today's generation is self-made. The youngsters do not need a guide; they are experts in many fields. They have all the facilities, gadgets and technology to get them what they want. When I look at my son and daughter, I think about how immature I was at their age. This generation believes in evidence and cannot be fooled by hollow promises. As far as joining politics is concerned, I feel the so-called elite, literate class of our society hardly comes out to vote. Just look at the voting percentage in Malabar Hill in the last election [11%]. I do not expect anything such as joining politics from them. |
