Management Information System Training

Posted: 12 Apr 2014 02:35 AM PDT

I need a good training guide book on Management Information System. I mean a book with theory and visual presentations or examples of MIS. I just want to know the details of what MIS executives do in a computer. I purchased a book "Management Information System and Computer Applications" by R Jayprakash Reddy from Homeshop18. It is disappointing to find the book is all about theory with no emphasis on practical training.

MTNL Broadband is inserting Adphonso powered malware on all customer devices

Posted: 12 Apr 2014 01:54 AM PDT

I have MTNL ADSL broadband in Delhi. Today I saw this popup on the side when I connected online (I removed my telephone number from the image):

XpK9E7W.jpg

After looking for the inserted code, I discovered that MTNL is inserting iframes inside the webpages!

The popup is being loaded from http://www.adphonso.com/testmtnl.php?CSID=22221504@mtnl

(I changed the telephone number in the URL above) More scrips are inserted from MTNL address 203.94.243.40

The adphonso website belongs to an adversiting company and that is a big problem :(

Are you guys seeing this sort of popups too? If yes, do you think is it safe?

I think this way inserting codes inside webpages is not good for the privacy of users.

Does anyone know of a Service Provider by the name Vibrant Net

Posted: 12 Apr 2014 01:23 AM PDT

Hi Guys,

I have recently shifted to the Rajakilpakkam area, Chennai. Was desperately looking for an ISP. Airtel did not have cables, I am not  a great fan of BSNL due to to my past experiences, so rejected that. Finally got to know about a new ISP by the name VIBRANTNET (www.vibrantnet.in). I was using Wi-Fi (FTTH) when I used to stay in Medavakkam, the plans provided by this guy matches the same as Wi-Fi, checked with the Sales guy and came to know that these guys have taken over from Wi-Fi.

I am left with no choice, but I am still confused if I can go for this. I have opted for 4Mbps plan (Rs. 3454 for 3 months + 750 Reg Fee + Tax). The Sales guy has promised to come back within 3 days for the installation. Can someone suggest please?

How many of you smoke?

A great flood aka deluge destroyed the entire planet  and the last civilization which was much advanced than us. You will be surprised when you watch it.

A basic phone for Mom

Posted: 11 Apr 2014 10:27 PM PDT

Her only requirement is to call. Not even SMS.

But I'd prefer something that has a okish sized screen, FM (with recording) and music function that can keep her entertained during the summer power cuts!

Looked at Nokia 107, 108 but I'd prefer a slightly larger screen.

Found this Lava Arc 12i interesting. Thinking of adding up another 200 bucks to get the Lava Arc 22.

Anyone with Lava.. how are the phones? Or should I stick to Nokia? Also do these Lava phones have FM receiver built in or do we need to plug in the headset?

Torrents btcache no more?

Posted: 11 Apr 2014 09:47 PM PDT

Hello everyone, first time poster here.

I am located in thane west and have been using 5net for about 3 months now.

The main reason i switched over to 5net  from my tata indicom adsl was the torrent speeds.

I always used to get 900kB/s fro popular torrents and even 7-8 MB/s for more popular torrents.

Later i discovered that it is due to BtCache/ CacheBT.. but since 2-3 weeks... i am not getting such high speeds on torrents. max i can go upto is 130-140kB/s (i.e my 1mbps UL plan)

BtCache/CacheBT no longer shows up in the peer list for the currently downloading torrents (as many of you might know.. this is a network caching cluster of fivenet which provides such amazing speeds... simply put.. local torrent caching)

i can see however that youtube still works good for 720 even 1080p videos(i.e youtube is still cached)

has fivenet stopped torrent caching??

any one else facing a similar issue??

a call to my lco got me this response "Everything is fine"

Has Downfall For Google Begun ?

Posted: 11 Apr 2014 08:39 PM PDT

The Google once i knew and loved is , imo no more. All i see is a big giant corporation sucking all the privacy it can from nearly all individual who are online.   The Fall has been amplified by the recent expose of the PRISM debacle.   With Recent move to make real name / real profile associated with your Google account to comment on youtube , things are not all rossy at google.     Here is another fine example of major f*** up by google , and even more appaling is how we all have started to accept the fact that there is no real support for such a big company. Even though most of the times its all automated , but many years ago , when i had issues with Adsense , it was as if talking to a empty space.   But apart from these , I am slowly loosing my confidence and trust on google , the way they have progressed and action they take.   Youtube without ABP is pure crap. I cant view 30 sec video without wathcing a 1 min ad , that too on HD , when my actual video i am supposed to watch doesnt run smoothly at 240p , even though its an isp issue , still Google should be aware of my bandwidth , when it is quick enough to change the video from 240p to 144p , me even without asking it , but fails to load a SD ad depending on my speed.   Gmail is full of ads again and it started to be listed right above emails too.   Picasa is dead and replaced with crap like G+ photo which is viewable for the elite who can have a decent 2mpbs connection.   Blogger imo is dead too , with region changing domains , i feel its more shifted towards easy censoring .   Google plus is crap and so is FB. May be i am just tired of all these social sites. May be its just me .   Apart from these , the main service , the actual search , imo has taken deep dive . The results are no more better. Most of the time it serves me out dated links (2008-2010) , and each time i have to specify to link to 2012-2013 to get more precise results. With all the MPAA/RIAA/other take down request , i am not sure whether the result i am seeing is even the best ones.   You cant use Google without using good userscripts (googlifix) to enable all the hidden features , which were once easily available.   Android is whole lot different , with Google play/market imo is fuc*** up , with most of the space wasted on movies and books and no real way to show only apps. Still the search on Play is ancient and no real way to filter them.   With recent 4.4 KK , and recent issue on how you cant have access to Battery info , i dont know where this is all leading. Even though a lot has been optimized and became effecient , android is again pushing one to use its services .

May its all because of PRISM , i have lost all trust on google and each day all i see if they grabbing all the possible information on everyone , to either serve the ads or to nsa or whatever. There is also a general dislike slowly growing towards google.

Airtel hidden plans for NCR customers?

Posted: 11 Apr 2014 08:32 PM PDT

So i had 2099 8mbps @ 80. My requirements were 50 gb and i was hoping airtel would launch 50 gb plans. But to my dismay they jacked up the tariffs.I called CC and they gave me 2 plans which i think are not available in their website:

1) 1849 plan which has 4mbps @ 40 gb and 1000 local pulses free

2)2099 plans which has 8mbps @ 40 gb and has 1000 local pulses free

When i called again i was told that 1849 plans doesn't exist. Anyways i am paying the same amount and 40 gb less bandwidth. This blows.

ps: For all those who want more , I called airtel and told them that i cannot afford rs 2300 so they gave me 20% discount for the next 3 months.

mahaconnect working in latest firefox with TLS1.2?

Posted: 11 Apr 2014 08:20 PM PDT

Can someone open this site in latest Firefox? Latest firefox supports TLSv1.1 and TLSv1.2.

https://www.mahaconnect.in

In my case it gives HANDSHAKE error.

It works when I change "security.tls.version.max" to 1. i.e. force downgrade to SSLv3 / TLS1.0.

This probably means that Bank of Maharashtra is using decade old SSL technology :D

[HELP NEEDED] Disabling HD in youtube on SAMSUNG SMART TV 46ES6200

Posted: 11 Apr 2014 07:12 AM PDT

Short and SImple-
I use a BSNL EVDO connection alongside a WIFI router rendering me 1.2-2.5mbps speeds throughout the day,
while using YouTube on my SAMSUNG 46ES6200,I notice it auto plays in HD if the video supports so causing unwanted buffering at times.
(sometimes i get rock solid 2mbps+ without fluctuations, wherein it plays without any buffer).
But when I play some video which has a maximum quality of 480p,it plays lag free and buffer free,
But most channels i follow post full HD videos and watching it is a pain in the ass,

I've been hunting of someway to disable HD so that i could watch videos without hickups.

Is there any possible workaround?

Thanks in advance

Utstarcom Bridge Mode Configuration And Automatic Router Reboot

Posted: 11 Apr 2014 06:52 AM PDT

This post is in two parts. Part I deals with configuration of bridge mode on the UTstarcom UT-300R2U modem/router provided by MTNL

Part two contains instructions for automated router reboot for people using PPPoE/A mode on the same modem.

PART I

For configuring bridge mode -

1) Log into web interface of modem

2) Select Lan from left hand side options and disable DHCP server. Click save and reboot the modem from the reboot option. While the modem reboots, assign static IP to ur LAN card. You can do it in win xp by double clicking on the lan icon in the tray the selecting properties > TCP/IP>>Properties...use192.168.1.3 ; put the mask in as 255.255.255.0 and Gateway as 192.168.1.1 ; use the foll DNS - Primary 203.94.243.70 ; secondary 4.2.2.1

3) When the modem comes back online, log in again into the web interface for the next part of the configuration.

4) Click on WAN from the options on left hand side

5) in the WAN setup click the edit button in the row which shows PPPoE enabled

6) ATM/ PVC configuration will pop up, let the settings as they are and click next

7) Now from the options that appear select bridging and change the encapsulation mode to "VC/Mux" click next

8) In the configuration screen that follows, make sure that the "enable bridge service option is
ticked..Give any service name or let it remain as it is. Click next

9)In the WAN setup summary click save.

10) Now the wide area network setup will appear click "save/reboot"..let the modem reboot.

The Bridge mode is ready as far as the modem is concerned. Now we need to configure the dialer in the operating system. For creating a dialer in windows XP just do the following.

Goto Network connections in Ctrl panel >> Create a new connection >> connect to the internet >> setup my connection manually >> connect using broadband connection that requires username & password >> Put in the ISP name ie MTNL >> put in ur username and password >> add a shrtcut (will make it easy to find after setting up the connex.)

PART II

UTstarcom modem running in the PPPoA/E mode can be rebooted in the same way as the dlink DSL-502T ,with only small modifications needed to be made to the script.

For scheduling the reboot, follow the instructions in this post http://broadbandforum.in/mtnl-triband-broadband/1741-finally-trib-nu-solution/#post18114 given under the heading "schedule" .
IMP : Please do not use the script commands used in the post as they apply to Dlink DSL 502T
instead use the following i.e. copy and paste them into the reboot.txt that u will create

192.168.1.1 23
WAIT "Login"
SEND "admin\m" (enter your login ID here)
WAIT "Password"
SEND "admin\m" (enter your password here)
WAIT "->"
SEND "12\m"
WAIT "==>"
SEND "1\m"
WAIT "The system shell is being reset. Please wait..."

Rest of the instructions are common to both DSL 502T and UTstarcom so follow them.

Thats it, you should have a fully schedulable rebootable modem now.

DISCLAIMER : These settings work and i have tried them myself, however, iam no way responsible for any hardware failure or any other problem that you may encounter while making the changes to the settings..

Any ISP in remote area of Sinhgad Road, Pune?

Posted: 11 Apr 2014 05:16 AM PDT

Hello folks!

I've been searching for a decent connectivity in Dhayari, Pune location. I tried with AirTel, Reliance, Tata & BSNL wired/wireless broadband & everybody said, they have no coverage in my location.  In this scenario, I think I'm left with either USB dongle modems or Satellite dish connections. (Yes, I've checked with local providers too. still no luck.)

I was wondering if I can get some suggestions on this. Are there any decent ISPs providing connections via USB modem or satellite dishes?

I've already asked Airtel for LTE demo but there is no visit yet.

Any insight would be highly appriciated.

Many thanks!

Legacy of Indian Maritime Forts

Posted: 11 Apr 2014 03:51 AM PDT

For those interested in a bit of History.

India was a great maritime and sea faring nation many centuries ago. India's commercial and maritime influence spread as far as China, all over South-East Asia, Red Sea and gulf littoral because of formidable building ships and operating capabilities. However, after the 13th century, lack of appreciation of maritime importance by Indian rulers led to significant decline in sea power. The maritime forts of India were mute witness to the erosion of India's maritime power and power play of the Portuguese, French, Dutch and English sea warriors.
