Airtel offered me a new plan

Posted: 31 Dec 2013 02:55 AM PST

Airtel called me today and said since I'd taken Smartbytes for 12gb last month, they wanted to offer 125 fup plan(80gb now) at the same speed(8mbps) for 50rs extra.

I also heard they are giving 3g at 2g rates in my area these days.

Is airtel on a PR improving spree? Anyone got offers like this?

FTTH from early 2014 by BBNL

Posted: 31 Dec 2013 02:08 AM PST

A BBNL technician recently told me that FTTH will be introduced soon ( possibly by Jan/Feb 2014 ).

With 'fiber to the home' I am hoping consistent speed ,bettery quality and hopefully lesser down times.

Existing modem will be replaced with a fiber optic modem and the technician says it would be a free replacement. He also said that faster speed plans apart from the current max of 10 mbps ( unlimited download ) are also in the anvil.

Cheers to BBNL!

Currently on a 10 mbps( unlimited download ) plan.

BSNL - EVDO - Usage - Review and everything about it

I know its a old school connection , about 4 years old but till now there isnt a better wireless plan compared to this till now

Rs 750 Pm True Unlimited . Prepaid

Pros:
1. True Unlimited no FUPs - i download around 100-150 Gbs a month, i can download upto 200-300 Gbs but i run out of files
2. Priced cheap compared to others , when they charge Rs 1000 with 10 Gb FUP
3. U dont have to talk to the customer care ever

Cons:
1. it has too many
2. Coverage is too thin , forget about slow speed there are places where u wont get any service at all
3. u just cannot walk to a BSNL office and buy this sim , because 70% of them doesnt know there is a service like this
4. CDMA
5. Availability of CDMA- EVDO modems in the market
6. Recharge Problems , those STVs mentioned on the site dont work most of the time ( lost Rs 1000 over online Recharge couple of times)

even after all the above i just love this connection , its prepaid and costs 750 pm , unlimited
have nice coverage in my town , so always get 1-2mbps , but dont ask about the ping or latency values

with this connection i have never thought about another connection for 3 years now .

have some doubts ? want details ? ask it here

happy to help

When will BSNL launch new plans ?

Posted: 31 Dec 2013 12:31 AM PST

hi Guys,

Its frustrating that BSNL is yet to launch truly unlimited 1/2/4 Mbps plans for < 1500Rs. Its perpetually offering 512Kbps speeds from last 4-5 years. Not only that, they are not even offering speed boost say after 6pm like MTNL does. Its not only about downloading torrents. Even if i want to watch Youtube files, I am not able to with 512kbps. They should start offering speed boost to 2/4Mbps at 6pm to 8am slot if offering the same at daytime is not possible. What can we do in this situation ? Can we all raise a CRM ticket at selfcare portal to demand this ?

Is Airtel International gateway down?

Posted: 31 Dec 2013 12:28 AM PST

Hi Guys,

I am using Airtel BB in Noida and I'm not able to connect to WoW, Diablo3 and League of Legends today. Also some of the sites are not opening up. This happened 2 days back as well, but things sorted themselves out.

I think the international gateway is down. Anyone else experiencing the same problems?

ShopClues makes it extremely hard to delete your user account

Posted: 31 Dec 2013 12:18 AM PST

I was recently prompted by a friend to shop at http://www.shopclues.com/ for their 'Sunday Flea Market'. The items of interest mobile phone covers. There was a code which would get you a cover for Rs 63+ shipping. I created my login then went about selecting the relevant mobile covers, the quantity, added the promo code which showed it was valid. But it did made no difference to the overall billing amount which was Rs 758/-. Now it should have been only 63*2+29=155. So I cancelled y order, I tried again later & got the same result. That was when I decided to delete my a/c but to my shock I could NOT do so, I went thru the FAQ's here's what I found.

'Deactivate my account

Please contact us at shopclues.com/support'

Now this is pasted from their site

But if you go to the above mentioned link there is no way to contact them. When I mentioned this to my friend, he tried from his a/c & it was the same story so he volunteered to post on their FB page (I don't have an a/c) but the shocking thing is that his post can be seen only by him. It cannot be seen by anyone who is not logged in OR by other FB members who can login & go to this page. I am now stuck as

  • I cannot delete my a/c (I find this totally unacceptable)
  • Cannot remove my personal details like name/address/cell no. OR even change those details from their site
  • I cannot communicate with them in any way, if I don't have a pending order with them (I assume this is possible if you have a pending order)
  • If you post on their FB page it's not visible to anyone else. For those who want to check look at their post which says 'Last Sunday of 2013 29th Dec 2013' (I don't want to post their FB post pic here. Don't want to give them free publicity)

So guys I posted about  my experience of this here to caution anyone who is tempted to shop there. :(

Aam Aadmi Party statement on free water distribution in Delhi

Posted: 30 Dec 2013 11:21 PM PST

Is AAP really giving water "Free"? No, Telescopic tariff removes mass subsidies. | Aam Aadmi Party, India

The AAP decision is anything but a mass subsidy. It is a very targeted subsidy based on consumption. The assumption here is very simple. The poor would use water sparingly and try to stay within the 20,000 litre limit, whereas those better off would exceed those limits. The latter would then pay for even the first unit they consumed, and in effect subsidise the poor. This is in effect better than the tarriff structure we have today, where everyone pays a low per unit price for the first few units they consume, and then everyone pays higher.Till today, you paid more if you used more, for the excess you used, buteveryone paid the same low rate for the first 10,000 litres (Rs 2 per 1000 litre for the first 10,000 litres used and Rs 3 for 10-20,000, Rs 15 for 20-30,000). Which then is a mass subsidy? The existing graded pricing, or AAP's proposed telescopic pricing.

Dell XPS 12

Posted: 30 Dec 2013 10:43 PM PST

Dell just announced that it will go up for pre-order today, starting at $1,199. (It will ship October 26th, the day Windows 8 launches.) That's a princely sum indeed compared to some of the other Windows 8 ultraportables we've seen, but it's important to remember that this runs not on an Atom processor, but an Ultrabook-grade CPU. And while you might assume that 12.5-inch display makes do with 1,366 x 768 resolution, it's actually a dense 1080p panel.

FDI in e-commerce in India expected to open in three months

Posted: 30 Dec 2013 10:10 PM PST

Government plans to allow FDI in e-commerce before April | Business Standard

Sources said the PMO wants the policy to be in place by the end of the current financial year.

At present, 100 per cent FDI is allowed in business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce, while business-to-consumer (B2C) is prohibited. Besides, there is a mandatory 30 per cent local sourcing norms for foreign players.

In India, online services such as ticketing, net-banking, payment of taxes, bill payment, matrimonial sites are developing by the day. So are goods retailing sites such as flipkart.com, jabong.com, and firstcry.com, among others, that sell anything from books to bags.

DIPP is faced with another problem. In some cases, foreign players have already tied up with domestic companies. As a result, these players are now not so enthused with the government's decision to allow FDI at this juncture.

Large international players such as Amazon and eBay are currently in discussion with DIPP on what the possible outcome in case FDI is allowed. Apparently, they are pushing for this heavily as they find the Indian market "extremely lucrative".

Mobile Signal Boosters

Posted: 30 Dec 2013 10:02 PM PST

Does anyone here take help of a private booster in their office or business for better reception?are you satisfied with it...for what money you have paid for it?
I would like to hear from someone who owns a business and has tried a booster for better coverage in their office or shop or godown?

i am asking this question because, boosters currently being used are expensive and 90% are imported from china..Not that they are bad..but i was thinking..what if they are made locally and the technology is made avaliable at cheaper rates...me and few of my friends are giving this a serious thought..about developing something.
