My experience with ACT BB

Posted: 27 Dec 2013 11:55 PM PST

Feedback whether positive or negative should be passed to the appropriate person. That's what I believe in.

This is the timeline of how my installation experience has been with ACT BB.

11 Nov-2013 - I applied for a new ACT BB connection today in Kundanahalli Gate, Bangalore. I will keep you posted on the developments.

11-Nov-2013 - Cheque payment made to Sales executive, Babu Reddy, details filled on form and submitted to him.
ETA - 3 days for wiring and connection to be activated.

12-Nov-2013 -
I got a call from ACT technician today that cabling would be done by end of the day. Got a confirmation call from Customer Care at 1543 hrs, IST today that connection will be activated in 2 days. So far, so good.

12-Nov-2013 - At 1616 hrs, IST I receive a call from Mukund who is the ACT technician saying that the wiring has been completed to my apartment on the third floor and i would be receiving a call today at 1700 hrs, IST for username and password. Mukund confirms that I can use my internet connection from tonight.

I would term this as awesome service from an installation perspective, although I would have to wait and watch how stable the connection is post installation.

12-Nov-2013 -
Cabling has been completed and just received the credentials for my broadband account at 2059 hrs, IST through email and the registered mobile number. A confirmation call was made from the customer care before the account got activated.I am still out, so I gotta go and check how the connection is. I will keep you posted.

I have connected the cable from ACT BB to my Netgear WGR614 router.

http://reviews.cnet.com/routers/netgear-wgr614-54-mbps/4505-3319_7-21218238.html

In case, someone wants to have the contact details of the sales person & field engineer of ACT for Kundalahalli area, let me know.

Speed test shows rocking upload and download speeds. I am on Act Force plan.

12-Nov-2013 1159, IST - First level checks indicate amazing speeds with YouTube where I can watch videos without buffering in Full HD.

I will keep posting various workloads I consider to be bandwidth intensive and would update this thread.

Any downtime or disconnections will also be reported.

Wiring up home for fibre

Posted: 27 Dec 2013 10:19 PM PST

Hi,

Couldn't find a better subfolder to post this in...apologies if off-topic. With my current setup, I have hidden CAT6 and telephone cable running around the house with an entry point for telecom providers outside. With fibre optic providers coming in, is it possible to run such fibre cables so that I can have an entry point for the telecoms fibre cable at an accessible point - and from there to my room through the hidden fibre cable. If so, what kind of cable should I run and what kind of connectors should I terminate with? I tried googling, but, got lost in all the different connector types available... Thanks

Reliance Broadband and Netgear N150 WNR612

Posted: 27 Dec 2013 09:38 PM PST

Hello friends,

I've purchased Netgear WNR612 router to use my reliance broadband on wireless devices like Laptop, mobile etc.

My reliance connection doesn't come with a modem.

There is only a single ethernet cable which goes directly to my laptops ethernet port.

I've tried every possible combination to and from laptop/router with this cable and the ethernet cable that has been provided with the router but without any success. :(

Please tell me (step by step if possible) how to configure this router to be able to use my reliance broadband with it.

Eagerly waiting for your reply.

Thanks and regard.

Buy new wifi modem or take new connection from different ISP who offers free wifi modem

Posted: 27 Dec 2013 08:59 PM PST

Hi

My nokia-siemens wifi modem stopped working and now I need to buy new one which costs 1700-2000 Rs .

Is it better to change from BSNL to other ISP who provides free wifi modem and connection  ? or is there a way that BSNL replaces my modem for free . They are saying no stock available with them .

I will be using only internet and not much usage of LAN or data transfer between devices , I think this can be served by a normal wifi

modem.

My previous modem worked for 3.5 years , Is this max age of any modem ? which means I need to spend 2k for every 3 years  once.

Thanks

Chinna

Buying and Selling products through OLX

Posted: 27 Dec 2013 08:45 PM PST

I am giving it a second try. I listed my 2012 Google Nexus 7 3G 2 days ago. Just got one query. But as expected, it was quite absurd. He wants me to drop the price 40%. Claims to have Google as his client. Says Google is offering him the 2013 edition of the 3G variant for Rs. 18000 (US price is going to be above Rs. 22000). It's fun. I told him to get it because it is an excellent deal. He said he is planning on getting that but wanted a backup device for testing. I am assuming he is an Android developer and if he is right, Google seems to be offering the new model at pretty amazing prices to developers here in India even before it is launched in the US market.

Listed two more products for variety. I know people here have had much success with OLX. Share your stories!

Former Champ: Schu could return to racing

Saturday 1st December 2007

Former F1 Champion Alan Jones reckons Michael Schumacher may be considering a comeback after an impressive test at Barcelona two week's ago.

Although Schumacher retired from F1 at the end of the 2006 season, the German returned to action with Ferrari at the Spanish track in the first of the winter tests.

The seven-time World Champion proved to be the man to beat as he dominated the timesheets during his two days of testing.

And although Schumacher has stated many times that his test does not mean he will be making a competitive comeback, Jones reckons the thought has to have crossed Schumi's mind.

"After nearly a year out of the saddle, I can image him thinking, 'Maybe I'd like to have another go.' It must be just like coming back from an extended Christmas break," Jones told Autosport.

"He used to take a couple of months off at the end of each season, so another few months won't make a big difference. Two or three years might have done.

"It's a win-win situation: Ferrari gains from his expertise and he enjoys it. And you can never rule out a comeback - he might be thinking, 'I'm really enjoying this!' Money won't be his motivation, it will be to prove a point.

"Niki Lauda was out for several seasons and came back and won the title. Michael could do the same."

Schumacher misses Massa's wedding day

Dec.3 (GMM) A representative for Michael Schumacher has played down speculation that he may have fallen out with his former Ferrari teammate Felipe Massa.

In the presence of many of his Ferrari colleagues, 26-year-old married his fiancee Rafaela Bassi, who is 27, in Sao Paulo last Friday, according to reports from Brazil and Italy.

Among the 800 guests were team bosses Jean Todt and Stefano Domenicali, as well as Mario Almondo, Aldo Costa and Luca Baldisserri -- but not Schumacher, his 2006 teammate.

Massa's countryman Rubens Barrichello also attended, reports said.

Days earlier, the former seven time world champion, Schumacher, won a karting event hosted by Massa in the southern Brazilian city of Florianopolis.

The German newspaper Bild am Sonntag said Schumacher had celebrated Massa's impending marriage with his former teammate and friend in the days prior.

A representative for Schumacher said: "Michael is currently in the United States for a family vacation."

The models could be released this year, according to a post by a Sina Tech user called Old Yao. He reports that a friend of his at a supplier has seen the models and says that the iPhone 5S resembles the iPhone 5, while the iPhone 6 is wider, longer, and thinner.

Sounds pretty stupid right? It is indeed.

BSNL - EVDO - Usage - Review and everything about it

BSNL - EVDO - Usage - Review and everything about it

I know its a old school connection , about 4 years old but till now there isnt a better wireless plan compared to this till now

Rs 750 Pm True Unlimited . Prepaid

Pros:
1. True Unlimited no FUPs - i download around 100-150 Gbs a month, i can download upto 200-300 Gbs but i run out of files
2. Priced cheap compared to others , when they charge Rs 1000 with 10 Gb FUP
3. U dont have to talk to the customer care ever

Cons:
1. it has too many
2. Coverage is too thin , forget about slow speed there are places where u wont get any service at all
3. u just cannot walk to a BSNL office and buy this sim , because 70% of them doesnt know there is a service like this
4. CDMA
5. Availability of CDMA- EVDO modems in the market
6. Recharge Problems , those STVs mentioned on the site dont work most of the time ( lost Rs 1000 over online Recharge couple of times)

even after all the above i just love this connection , its prepaid and costs 750 pm , unlimited
have nice coverage in my town , so always get 1-2mbps , but dont ask about the ping or latency values

with this connection i have never thought about another connection for 3 years now .

have some doubts ? want details ? ask it here

happy to help

Very Disappointed with ACT, 8 days No connection yet

Posted: 27 Dec 2013 09:47 AM PST

I had applied for a new connection on 18th Dec. I had given an advance of Rs. 7410 in cash to Murthy (employee id - 1667) with necessary documents. He promised me a connection with 3-4 days and maximum 7 days.

Nobody has contacted me after that day, neither have i have been given a customer id or a ticket number. I called the customer service on 4284 0000 multiple times, 4-5 times who haven't done anything. They just tell, they will forward the complaint to the concerned department and yet after that nothing has happened nor anyone has contacted me.

I have lost my patience you people. I could have gotten a connection from another ISP by now. After this ordeal and begging ACT to give me a connection, i will not suggest act to any of my friends or family.

You Broadband has the worst service

Posted: 27 Dec 2013 09:03 AM PST

It was down for 18 days. Service is pathetic. I am fed up and so as my friends. I regret by taking you BB. Customer support people says we are facing some issue, sorry for that, thats all they do. in between it started working and now every alternate day it doesn't work. I have used BSNL, Hathway & You till now. Among all worst is YOU. Now yet to try Airtel & ACT.

If you have which is better among Airtel & ACT, let me know. All I need is properly working connection.

Bangalore HSR Layout Broadband Tragedy

Posted: 27 Dec 2013 03:53 AM PST

I have been staying in Bangalore's HSR layout since the last 6 years. I was staying in Sector-2 for two years where I was using Tata Indicom Broadband. Then I moved to an apartment where we had airtel broadband, for two years.

Now I have moved to a sector-3, near the HSR Club in HSR Layout and my hunt for a new broadband connection has been an utter tragedy.

I first went to airtel, who, within 3 days, told me that there is no feasibility for connection in the area. I then, with a lot of hopes, went to the telephone exchange where I was told that there is no feasibility for connection in the HSR Layout area as BBMP has not allowed BSNL to dig up the area for laying new cables. Next I went to Tata Indicom, who took 10 days to tell me that there is no technical feasibility in the area to provide a new connection.

I am left completely baffled at this. I am staying in a prime location in HSR Layout only to find that there is no way I can get broadband?

I am left with very few options now. For now, I am using an USB dongle (Reliance Netconnect). There are advertisement bills stick on electric poles for Tikona Broadband and TTN broadband. I have googled about Tikona and TTN and my perception is that they are a waste of money and time.

The only option left is to go for the latest and overpriced Airtel LTE 4G broadband. Equipment for it alone costs Rs.8000 and I am not in a mood to spend that much amount (Airtel representative who sells LTE told me that it's the stuff for people who own Audi and Benz).

Can someone here please suggest me something? I use moderate downloading (Maybe 10-12 GB per month?) and I have always had broadband. i don't know what to do as i am going to stay in this new house for at least a year.

Please advice!

Hathway needs Cable Connection to give Internet?

Posted: 27 Dec 2013 03:48 AM PST

Apologies if duplicate, i did not find a thread which discusses this.

So I wanted a new internet connection in Goregaon East and I applied for Hathway. They Initially they took the form and cheque, and promised to do the installation. However, later they called back and said they cannot install broadband since "I don't subscribe to a cable connection from them". They did, however, promise to refund the money.

This sounds like an extortion scheme to me. As a customer, I should be having a choice to subscribe to internet without subscribing to cable connection (Yes, I know I am in India, but still....). I am not sure if such extortion is even legal?? Just wanted the advice of this forum on if I can do anything (more than angry tweets) to get these horrible guys to do something, or do we just have to take this lying down???

It's now 2 weeks I am trying to get a broadband connection in Goregaon. Can't believe I live in India's biggest metro....
