Funny Videos, Images and Jokes Posted: 10 Nov 2013 02:07 AM PST MS staff There was a pilot flying a small single engine charter plane, with a couple of very important executives on board. He was coming into Seattle airport through thick fog with less than 10m visibility when his instruments went out. So he began circling around looking for landmark. After an hour or so, he starts running pretty low on fuel and the passengers are getting very nervous. Finally, a small opening in the fog appears and he sees a tall building with one guy working alone on the fifth floor. The pilot banks the plane around, rolls down the window and shouts to the guy "Hey! Where am I?" To this, the solitary office worker replies "You're in a plane." The pilot rolls up the window, executes a 275 degree turn and proceeds to execute a perfect blind landing on the runway of the airport 5 miles away. Just as the plane stops, so does the engine as the fuel has run out. The passengers are amazed and one asks how he did it. "Simple" replies the pilot, "I asked the guy in that building a simple question. The answer he gave me was 100 percent correct but absolutely useless, therefore that must be Microsoft's support office and from there the airport is just a while away." __________________________________________________________ Is Windows a virus? No, Windows is not a virus. Windows does that, too Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware Yup, that's with Windows, too Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature So, Windows is *not* a virus __________________________________________________________ Note about Winblows '95 Windows '95 supports Plug 'n' Pray peripherals!!! ![]() ![]() __________________________________________________________ What's the difference between Bill Gates and Robert Tappen Morris, Jr. (the Internet Worm Hacker)? Tikona Broadband User Experiences Posted: 10 Nov 2013 12:22 AM PST Thought I would start another thread for people who have actually used this service to describe their experience. They have started advertising quite heavily in Bombay and their plans seem pretty decent. Their 600kbps UL plan would be excellent for me. I really like the way they have bill limits for their limited plans as well. That shows they understand consumer concerns about enormous bills and have designed their plans to allay them. So how good is their service? Any down time? How quickly do they respond to complaints? Really any information from people who have used Tikona would be appreciated. |
MTNL Broadband VDSL2 User Experiences Posted: 09 Nov 2013 11:57 PM PST I wanted to start a new experience thread simply to discuss MTNL VDSL.
SNR margins (SNRM)
Higher you sync rate, lower the SNRM will be. Lower the SNRM, lower the connection reliability. Lower reliability means frequent disconnections. Hence ISP's have a setting in DSLAM to artificially increase SNRM value for a particular phone line. Hence you sync at lower rate and line automagically becomes stable.
Attenuation may not be that important after all. It reduces sync speeds over a distance but is not an indicator of connection reliability. (You can roughly calculate your line length from it. Do it here) Apply for VDSL connection only if you are within half km. Otherwise you will get ADSL like sync rates. I will update this entry with some of our findings. Since VDSL is somewhat new to India, this thread can help some early adopters.
Currently the speeds are decent for fast servers. But single streams are slow due to a bottleneck somewhere.

EA Increasing PC Game Prices in India Posted: 09 Nov 2013 09:50 PM PST Source: http://www.mcvindia.com/news/read/indian-gamers-react-to-ea-pc-price-hike-with-eapcindia-campaign/
Indian PC gamers have taken to Facebook and Twitter to air their discontent at the rising prices of EA's PC games. Using the #EAPCIndia hashtag, designed to give Indian gamers a single platform to make themselves heard on the issue, gamers continue to share their opinions on the matter. While some question the reasoning behind the dramatic hike, others see it as a move that will push most PC gamers back towards piracy. EA announced a couple of days ago that it will price FIFA 14 at Rs 2,499 and Battlefield 4 and Need for Speed: Rivals at Rs 3,499. That's up from last year's price of Rs 1,499 – a 66% to 133% hike. The reasoning behind the hike is that EA would like prices for its PC games around the world to be the equivalent of $60, for various reasons. The primary reason is that gamers outside India have been able to gain VPN access to the India Origin store and take advantage of lower Indian prices. This was a major issue during the release of Battlefield 3 Premium and it prompted EA to stop preorders on the Indian store. But the issue came up again following the release of SimCity, which resulted in the game being pulled and then re-released at a higher price. It seems quite harsh for EA to penalise the Indian market for Origin's technical deficiencies. Steam has been quite successful in cracking down on users who abuse the system to circumvent region locks in such a way. |

Co-Op society rules regarding Broadband Connections in India? Posted: 09 Nov 2013 08:07 PM PST I need some help. We have a flat on ownership, I've been using broadband internet for close to 5-6 years now in this society, currently (V-com) previously was using sify. So the internet guys had installed a small box at tht time (I dont know whats it called) where u plug in 6-8 diferent wires and those are connected to your homes. Previously there were other members who had connections through this box, off late I am the only person who uses it. Few days back the secretary of the society just removed this box without my notice. When I found out about it I went to him and asked the reason, so the reason he gave me was since I am using it for my personal use(his words) the power from the society, its not allowed. We do pay mainainance on time too. Had a heated argument with him yesterday as to why bring up the issue after so many years. He is asking me to get power from your residence which is not convenient. My question is that whether there is any rule as such or as per Maharashtra co op society laws where such a thing is mentioned that I cannot use the society power for broadband? AFAIK, i have seen in every society they have this smallbox installed on the terrace by which every family who wants internet connection just need to plug in a wire. Sorry if I have posted in the wrong section, since its broadband related posted it here. |
