Frequent disconnection Airtel 4mbps DSL & Gigabit Lan

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 02:32 AM PST

Hello forum,

I am having this problem for the past 6 months now, wherein the broadband disconnects for 5-10 minutes on its own accord. This happens irregularly and without any specified time period, sometimes every half an hour sometimes once in an hour. I have a Dlink DSL- 2520U ADSL 2+ router connected to a Dlink 8 Port - Gigabit Switch. We use this connection in our office and about 6-7pc's are connected to the wired gigabit network. My Linksys wireless G broadband router is also connected to the switch. I am enclosing a screenshots of the ping values both with the modem and airtel's server when this happens. When this happens the DSL and Internet light on the modem are both onstable in green color showing that the line is active and functional.

I have gotten airtel to check there backend repeatedly and they say that this is a problem at my end. Could it some malware which is acting up or any other configuration issue. After reading up on this problem i had tried disabling ADSL and ADSL 2+ and enabling G.dmt in my modem settings. After doing that speedtest showed that my download speed dropped to 1.5mbps from ~4mbps. I do not want to compromise on my speed for a more stable connection.

Please let me know if you need more information from my end to resolve this problem.

thanks!

The general cricket discussion thread

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 02:14 AM PST

Why this thread?

So often, we have some random thought or point to make/discuss , and I personally sometimes skip it as I feel it is not worthy of a new thread & feel its unfair to hijack an existing thread...

Would recommend creating new thread for any big news & as usual we have threads for specific series/tournaments.. This is for something general random posts related to cricket...Kind of the Cricket Offtopic thread...

Will start with one post

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Misbah & Taibu seem to competing with each other for the prize of who can bat more defensively....

After beating NZ in the 3rd ODI with a draing chase... Now Zimbabwe are on verge on possibly upsetting them in the Only Test...

Ordered Samsung Chromebook for Dad through iShop International!

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 01:57 AM PST

http://broadbandforum.in/online-shopping/70708-purchased-samsung-n-series-np/

The netbook I purchased for dad through the above thread has well died. Samsung service center guys said that motherboard has gone bad. Repair charges? 4700. The netbook cost me around Rs. 12500 so I dropped the idea of getting it repaired.

So, I need a new laptop type product for dad. Now ideally I still want to buy him a Chromebook like last time around. But they are STILL NOT ON SALE in India.

Here are the two queries…

1. Is there any safe way to import a Chromebook from USA? Lots of folks here imported their Nexus 4 from USA… How about a Chromebook?
2. If importing a Chromebook is not that good of an idea… What else? He is currently trying to make do with my Nexus 7 but smaller display does not work well for him. A netbook? A budget ultrabook?

Now, his requirements are simple. He just needs to keep an eye on stock prices. A browser is enough. Now the markets are open for around 6-7 hours right? So need a power backup that is at least 5-6 hours. More would be better. Now, I get it, expecting 6-7 hours of backup from a laptop these days has become a stupidity. This is why I am very interested in Samsung's ARM processor based Chromebook.

Suggestions?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 with Android Ice Cream Sandwich?

I just read it on AndroidOS...

Samsung announces Galaxy Tab 2 with Android 4.0 | AndroidOS.in

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 features 1GHz dual core processor (make unknown), Android 4.0, 1GB RAM, 7-inch PLS display with 1024×600p resolution, 3MP rear camera, front camera, and HSPA+ support.

ooh. i think they posted about it before engadget!

The redux doesn't mark a huge departure from its predecessor, packing a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 1024 x 600 LCD. The big changes, however, come in the software department, with the Galaxy Tab 2 shipping with Android 4.0 straight out of the box. Other than that, you'll find a three-megapixel rear-facing camera, a VGA shooter up front, WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities, along with HSPA+ connectivity.
