| The general cricket discussion thread Posted: 12 Oct 2012 02:39 AM PDT Fair enough, some of my responses & views you can say are targeted at a broader audience in the forum. ================= And if one is going to say - "This match was fixed", then I would expect a better reason to justify and feel so. One of the most heavily debated matches was the Ind-Pak Semi Final in World Cup 2011. And all in favour narrowed it down to two things a)Tendulkar was dropped 4 times - This was one of the most easiest arguments to debunk for me. He was given out lbw even before the 4 drops & it was DRS which saved him. So was Ajmal, the only person who was not involved, and the other 10 were? The 3rd catch was very very tough & the 4th one was immediately preceding the actual dismissal, so in one way makes no real sense to even count those two. Moreover, Sachin had survived a close stumping chance (Kamran Akmal did the stumpings, and dropped one of the catches later) ... So, why bother try stumping him 2-3 times in the innings if the plan was to drop anything that was offered? If it was all scripted than we should be hailing them as the real talented actors than Aamir or SR-K or Salman, as they perfectly do without any retakes. b) The 2nd was Misbah's slow innings. People actually told me that I do not know anything about the game and how he plays :| But his record prior to and after is all to see. In fact, Dhoni has started more & more often to play like him (Ofcourse, a reason to now claim Dhoni is fixing) Going back to the game, they had lost 2-3 quick wkts, Umar Akmal was attacking on one end & also thats how he normally plays, he gets settled and then unleashes all kind of shots , even Ganguly was like that - He used to start with 20/30 off 50 odd balls, but usually end up close to run a ball. So, while he could be criticised like Dhoni nowadays is, I dont see that as enough reason to conclude it as proof for fixing. |
