Posted: 11 Sep 2012 02:36 AM PDT Edit : That article is of "2" pages That article seems to "switch" from startups to Notion Ink Try going through this - Seems an easier read. Times of India link Quote: "We aim to reach out to one million kids in the next three years," says Rajeev Pathak, co-founder of eDreams Edusoft, a Bangalore-based startup that uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing technology to provide automated personalised tutoring. Quote: FunToot, the product built by his startup is now being used by around 14,000 children in schools across southern India, including small towns such as Chikmagalur where 13-year-old CH Dhanvin Gowda has seen his grades improve after he began learning through Funtoot. Quote: In Chennai, Harness Handitouch is building applications for tablets that allow seamless transfer of notes during a classroom session onto a students tablet through Wifi. Quote: Also boosting the prospects of these startups is the availability of cheaper tablet computers including the second version of the much touted Aakash tablet due to be released later this month. Quote: iProf, a startup firm that raised $22.5 million (Rs 122 crore) from Norwest Venture Partners and IDG Ventures, has a model where they produce 70% of all content Quote: "These tools make an average teacher look like a rock star," says Sundi Natarajan, cofounder of PrazAs. The product, called Tabtor, was designed and developed at the company's research and development centres in Chennai and Bangalore Quote: Another interesting innovation within the space is by Bangalorebased Notion Ink Design Labs, the makers of the Adam tablet. The research and development team is creating a stylus technology, which will enable students to write on tablets the way one would use a pen and paper for writing or drawing. This includes making tablet screen rough or uneven to give a feel like a standard pad of paper. The firm is also working on a technology that will enable students to interface laboratory equipment with tablets and smartphones to perform experiments and do calculations. The company hopes to release these technologies in the third version of the Adam Tablet within two years. "We believe lowcost tablets will become ubiquitous among students in the next two years," says Rohan Shravan, founder of Notion Ink Design. The use of tablets is also growing within academia. "We are very bullish on the wide scale use of tablets within the education industry. |
Posted: 11 Sep 2012 02:33 AM PDT Chennai is very unpredictable... We can see clouds starting to form at 5:30 p.m.. As recently as two weeks ago. I came back home walking after a haircut, complaining its so hot & sunny. Had a bath and got ready to step out. But did not .... Because of heavy rains. |
