getting spectranet

1. Yes you will need a router.
2. No, a BSNL router won't work.
3. You can pick up any old router for Rs1000-2000. I wouldn't advise buying D-Link or TP-Link. Netgear, Linksys (Cisco) or Asus seem to be the favourites. I personally favour the Netgear WGR614 for basic setups.
4. When you get a router, you will probably have to ask your provider to reset the MAC address binding.

Channels in analogue mode (Den cable)

it will be really helpful if you can just give the 170 channel names that you are getting now on DEN ......I know its very time consuming but it will give me idea that what DEN is actually providing now ..

& cable provider in our area is telling us that if we will use DEN STB now we will get 170 channels now & 320 channels after 1 July ????have you heard anything about it ???

why do speedtest.net and speedtest.in give different results?

Posted: 23 Jun 2012 02:33 AM PDT

Speedtest.in's server is actually located in Texas, so results from India will always be extremely bad. Speedtest.net has servers located all over the world - in your case you're testing against a server in Delhi.

The geographic difference matters significantly.

From the speedtest.in site:

Your bandwidth speed may be affected by the following factors: being located outside of the United States
which seems a bit daft for what appears to be trying to be an India-centric service.

Tikona – Personal Router – Static IP – MAC address of LAN Port or WAN Port

Hello friends,

I have purchased static IP also from Tikona. Problem is that the technical engineer of Tikona asks me –

"Which Port would you like to bind your Static IP"

Also they ask me whats the MAC Address of Router –
Pls see attached screenshot –
As you can see Internet port - 74:44:01:94:E0:79
Whereas LAN Port has mac address - 74:44:01:94:E0:78

Which is router's mac address?

I have no idea.

I know we have two ports in router (mine is Netgear 300N Model) –
1. WAN (Internet) Port
2. LAN Port

Could anyone really help in explaining me –
1. Which one is router's mac address
2. Static ip should be binded to LAN or WAN Port

Pls guide Thank You

P.S. I intend to use DVR for CCTV for remote viewing later

Am i saved?

Why not? I used mine as a 3G router for over 4 months without any issues. Yes you'll need to keep it plugged in but that'd be the case with a 3G router too. One less thing to carry. One less thing to charge everyday. If anything, it was a better solution than mifi for me.

Looks good. But its costlier may be since it has a charger with it.....i dont need the portable charging facility. Whenever i need charging, i am always around a charging point.....except while travelling. But thats 4--4.5 hours max, that too split into 2. Let me now surf through the site for non-charging options.

Cheap and Best MTNL BroadBand plan for Heavy Downloaders in Delhi right now.

Posted: 23 Jun 2012 01:25 AM PDT

Hello onlytest

The broadband plan that you mentioned sounds great. I am looking for a new internet connection and I need to know more about your plan but I cant send you PM due to some reason. Could you tell me your email address or PM me so that I can reply back? Or reply in this thread itself.

Please tell me the following:
1) Does this Freedom 800 Combo plan have any Fair Usage Policy (FUP) like airtel has? Because in airtel the speed goes down to 256kbps after you have reached a certain download limit.

2) I already have a mtnl landline, so what would be the installation costs (modem etc)?

3) What is the exact amount after including taxes and everything that you have to pay for this plan per month?

3) Is the service ok (like does the internet work properly 24x7 or does it go offline like some local broadbands do)?

4) If I take any other mtnl unlimited plan (like the unlimited 999 plan for example), would it have any fair usage policy or any hidden speed limits?

Sorry for asking so many questions but the MTNL website is not working right now and I need to know the about this plan.

At present I have an airtel connection which gives me 512kbps till 8GB download and after that its 256kbps. The service is good but their internet plans are just unfair and very money minded. Therefore, I am looking for a good connection which doesnt have any hidden speed limits and isnt very expensive.

Please reply, thanks.
