Alliance Kolkata 6mbps speed test

Posted: 01 Jun 2012 03:01 AM PDT

I'm actually blown away by the 6mbps ul/dl speed. I'm feeling helpless on what to do with such speed...20gb up and 20 gb down in just 8 hrs....total 40 gb in a day....:D.

Can anyone suggest what to do with this connection??

In addition, airtel has not accepted my disconnection request; even if retention department calls up, I cant and wont settle for less than 30gb FUP under 1000 bucks.

I will advise u to tell them that you won't pay for the bill after a date and if they still do not accept the disconnection u can tell that u are moving to a new location due to your job and u just don't need broadband here cause u already got an wireless dongle....tell them that and just notice what they reply.

You connection

1) Connection speed is decent .. Do not expect 12mbps speed , be happy with 3 - 5 mpbs at max while you are still on 25gbs after fup plan speed is 1mbps ...

2) They provide you with a modem .. I think they take some 750/- rs as refundable deposit .. means if you terminate your connection you return their modem back to them and they give you the security deposit for modem ..

3) I think wires are not underground and are just like how reliance , tata etc provide you ie on building rooftops ..

4) You can pay via cheque .. I use cheques and not a credit card ..

5) I dont know if you will get a connection . If they have said they can provide in your area then you will get a connection .

Help regarding buying an AC in Kolkata

Posted: 01 Jun 2012 02:50 AM PDT

[QUOTE=abhirup_sphs;633137]

6. Can anybody brief me about the process of obtaining permission from CESC (power distribution body). Am asking this as our home does not have any points for an AC & I have heard that one needs permission from CESC & deposit a certain amount as security deposit(5000/-?) prior to installing AC's.

Permission for AC?? o_O Never heard of that!

I just got one without permission, should i get anticipatory bail?!?! LoL

MAybe this is a good thing after all. Hope football gets more importance. Its sad to see that only cricket is given importance when other countries like Australia and South Africa excel in other sports like rugby, hockey etc

National Telecom Policy 2012

^As I just mentioned in my previous post the last draft stated 512k for this year, and only in 2015 will it move to 2mbit/s. The only reason I believe this is still the case is because it was not clearly or specifically mentioned in the "highlights" - which describe the changes from the last draft to what was approved yesterday which I have seen - as to what is the immediate effect.

However as I have not got the final document in my hands at this very moment, I can't say for certain which is true or false and whether the news outlets are getting it right or wrong or are simply confused, because as I mentioned, there is a lot of conflicting reporting both on and offline depending on which newspaper you read.

This being said, even if 2mbit/s is the "minimum broadband speed" this will still only apply up to the ISP node, so whether you even see a performance difference (once the traffic leaves India) would remain to be seen.

A bit off-topic, can I use my TATA Sky setup box for my local cable connection(i.e instead of the DEN setup box)?
