Best Air Conditioner for Indian Conditions

Posted: 15 Apr 2012 03:05 AM PDT

@mcguire999: lol isn't that a familiar situation?! okay let me make it short and sweet. Get a Daikin AC and expect lesser hours of cooling needed. 3 Star/5 star don't matter much in a Real life situation only the cost.

1. No big benefit of Split over window, except external placement of split causing lesser noise inside the room. Daikin is damn silent mind you so no complaints thus far. Window AC requires a safety grill in case you don't want someone breaking in. Rather the AC outside robbed than your entire house inside :D

2. & 3. Not really. Like I said we're talking real world usage. How you use, so you pay. Just get good wiring done and avoid burnouts with our pathetic power condition in India. We had good gauge wire installed from the mains with circuit breakers to avoid any load damage and touch wood so far no problems. Manage to run two 1.5 Daikins(sparingly) on a single phase without any problem. But I don't suggest you do the same. It is a freakin' risk. We use Daikin Split 1.5 ton and the cooling is amazing and in fact quite a pain for some people because it almost freezes your b@lls if left on a low temperature setting. I know people like to say why keep it at 23 or 26?, but in reality you fall sick if you keep switching your AC on and off with it set low. Rapid differences in temperature screw the body and mind.

Personally, I don't think the AC needs to be put on too long as long as your rooms are well insulated and you are attentive enough to notice any doors/windows being left open or sunlight entering. My advice is, if you have asbestos roofing, False roofing helps to a mild extent(but does help). Any rooms that have Direct Sunlight striking on the windows and into the house, it would help using dark-colored thick curtains to prevent heat getting accumulated in the rooms. Like I said when you do have an AC be prepared for a great difference in your electricity bills. It is understandable though, High consuming equipment so just limit your usage based on your use and the rest will fall into place.

Cheers and All the Best for Chilling Out!!! ;)
