| BSNL Broadband Routing issue [High Latency + Low Speeds] Posted: 17 Mar 2012 02:53 AM PDT No luck so far. Like others commented before me, BSNL acknowledges issue but is unable to find a fix. Took my modem to nearest BSNL exchange. They hooked it up to their lines and dialled in using my account. Speed test revealed pathetic speeds. Cross checked their portal and made sure bandwidth consumption had not exceeded FUP limit. Next, they tried using my account through their own modem hooked up to the exchange lines. Nothing changed, same slow speed. This ruled out problems in our home line or modem equipment. The employees running the exchange didn't receive much assistance from the NIB centre. Meantime, someone at NIB doubled my account plan limit from 2 Mbps to 4 Mbps. All it did was increase the low speed performance from 256 kbps to something around 400 kbps. The next suggestion was to try do a port change for my account at the exchange. It took a day for them to do as it involved manually re-routing wires in their broadband infrastructure equipment. I got live on the changed port yesterday, but it didn't help either. Daily I get multiple calls from the local exchange, checking with me if there is any improvement, then some from NIB asking the same questions and then some from the local line-men asking what the problem is all about. I've gotten tired of repeating the same story. |

| Posted: 17 Mar 2012 02:03 AM PDT Quote: Only Indira Gandhi’s 1970-71 budget which raised marginal taxes to 97per cent comes close to yesterday’s effort He came, and he did not conquer. Worse, this budget is likely to turn on the master. I do not recall any budget in the last 20-odd years when there was so much consensus on expectations. Briefly, the near-universal expectation was that the finance minister, Pranab Mukherjee, would do all of the following: First, that this would not just be a vote-on-account budget, that it would be substantially more in the sense of containing some vision, some direction. The big picture, if you will. He was presenting his third budget in a row. Each of his budgets has been worse than the last, which is why even the RBI, an institution under the direction and “control” of the finance ministry itself, was waiting to see what the FM had in mind in terms of fiscal consolidation. Did Mukherjee succeed in delivering any vision? Not if you consider that all his policy recommendations had more to do with tinkering than with any sense of vision, let alone vision per se. So score zero on vision. |
