New Member: Marcus Transformer

Posted: 31 Aug 2011 10:58 AM PDT

Hello Crazy Engineers,

I would just like the opportunity to introduce ourselves to the community.
We are a Transformer manufacturing company that have been building quality products for nearly 70 years.

A little History on our company:

Marcus Transformer was founded in 1942 in Hillside, New Jersey by Alvin Marcus, the father of the company's present owner Barry Marcus, During the early years the company concentrated on the manufacturing of transformers for the war effort, for munitions plants, and government airplane, tank and cargo carrying production facilities.
Mr. Marcus senior served on the War Production Board and was decorated for his efforts by J.A. Krug, the chairman of the W.P.B. In post war years the U.S. economy was booming and Marcus transformer opened two new plants in the New York/New Jersey area, while expanding their sales agent network across the U.S. Puerto Rico, and into Canada. As the 1960's Marcus has opened multiple locations throughout North America and today is one of most trusted names when it comes to electrical Transformers.

We are here to answer any of your transformer related technical questions. Don’t hesitate to send us a PM.

The students developed theirfirst prototype--a $25 "sleeping bag" that could hold and retain heatquickly and efficiently. This month and two years later, Kembel presented anupdate on the project. The results have been astounding, he says. The student'scompany, Embrace, is now positioned to save 100,000 lives and prevent illnessin 800,000 children.

Alternative energy generators (Solar Power)

Posted: 31 Aug 2011 06:56 AM PDT

Depleting natural resources such as coal, petroleum products, and uncontrolled deforestation for urban development, have compelled visionaries to tap solar power as a sustainable and green power source. However present technologies demand larger surface area to collect solar energy & then converting into electricity. When demand is in terms of gigawatts, surface areas will be huge and therefore concentrating solar rays in limited areas remains the solution. It was in news, that Japanese scientists are intending to install mirrors on the Moon for reflecting the solar rays to the Earth. The same purpose can be achieved if mirrors are installed on geostationary satellites. Can some authorities enlighten us?

WIPRO Campus Recruitment Process

Posted: 31 Aug 2011 05:32 AM PDT

WIPRO technologies is a leading software industry and third largest after TCS and Infosys.

Its selection criteria is as follows

Aptitude test:The aptitude test by WIPRO is a bit tough but not hard. It has 50 questions and lasts 60 minutes. NO NEGATIVE MARKING. You are provided with an OMR answer sheet.
The question paper is divided in to various sections. Viz, analytical, verbal, and technical and logical reasoning. Use of calculators is not allowed.
The technical only relates with computer branch.

Technical Interview: It consists of technical questions realting to computers and IT. Mostly basic questions related to C and C++ programming are asked. Further questions relating to your interests may be asked.

For NON IT/CS people : Questions related to your graduate syllabus will be asked. After clearing both rounds they move over to Essay writing.

Essay Writing: You are given 10 minutes to write an essay on a any topic and many times based on your essay questions may come. Try to stay neutral unless you are very strong to prove your point.

A general tip for writing an essay is to follow the following points

1. Your ideas about the topic ( in 1-2 paragraphs)

2.Reasoning supporting your thoughts

3.Conclusion.

HR Interview: Now this is bit tough and you will need to remain positive. Any question or situation will be given to you. For example&

Quote:

A 50 year old man goes to a beer bar. The Bartender takes out a beer bottle and a pistol and Shoots. What is your opinion about the situation?
The possible positive answer is->The pistol works as a bottle opener when fired. So that the bartender can serve beer

After you clear everything you get the call letter and everything and you get to join the company :) If you have any doubts or things to share, feel free to post them :)

New GRE Rescore For Analytical Writing - Would You Opt For it?

Posted: 31 Aug 2011 05:25 AM PDT

Has anyone tried to get their Analytical writing test rescored? Is it worth the risk?

I heard it takes $55 for a Rescore from ETS.

I guess, if you are going to apply to a tech university, they don't take into consideration AWA score (most always).

I would like to read your suggestions & experience.

My Hobby :: Chess,Code...Astrology.

Posted: 31 Aug 2011 05:21 AM PDT

Hello guys,
I love to play chess and won many prizes by competing in tournaments.I am not FIDE rated, but have won against rated players(On a good day,I have also beaten up players with 2200+) I love the way this game is played and the art that great players create on the board.
My favourite players are V.Anand,G.Kasparov,A.Karpov,R.J.Fischer,P.Morphy.

I also like playing carrom and volleyball have represented my college for many tournaments, it was really a great experience.

From my username its quiet evident that I love to code, I have learnt different programing languages, created games I have also programed 2 players board games with AI, eg. tic-tac-toe,connect-4,gomoku.to name a few,the list is long and it also contains my biggest project to the date,Chess playing AI.

I am a budding astrologer, I have been reading on astrology for quiet a while now and can basically get hang of things.
I love vedic astrology because its very simple and accurate too if interpreted properly. So if anyone of you want to know more about yourselves, just PM me or VM me with your birth details (Your name, your D.O.B(DD/MM/YYYY),place u wer born, and time (24 hrs))

When should I take the New GRE?

Posted: 31 Aug 2011 05:05 AM PDT

The 50% discount offer on the New GRE is about to get over, so I think there is no point in hurrying for the new GRE test dates.

If you have are confident to crack the new GRE, then you can definitely go and book the test dates right now, but if you are not sure and can delay it for some time, you should utilize all the time you have for preparation.

There are many students who mistime the GRE test dates. There is no point in going to the test center not fully prepared and getting average score.

One you have given yourself ample time to prepare (which should be 4-5 months.) and have read the experience from other test takers and are comfortable with RCs and text completion questions, you are ready to go.

Let us know your opinion and when you are taking the test.

Looking forward to your responses.
