37. Following is the passage which is followed by 4 questions based on its content. After reading a passage , choose the best answer to each question.

If a supernova (the explosion of a massive star) triggered star formation from dense clouds of gas and dust, and if the most massive star to be formed from the cloud evolved into a supernova and triggered a new round of star formation, and so on, then a chain of star -forming regions would result. If many such chains were created in a differentially rotating galaxy, the distribution of stars would resemble the observed distribution in a spiral galaxy. This line of reasoning underlies an exciting new theory of spiral-galaxy structure.

A computer simulation theory has reproduced the appearance of many spiral galaxies without assuming an underlying density wave, the hallmark of the most widely accepted theory of large-scale structure of spiral galaxies. That theory maintains that a density wave of spiral form sweeps through the central plane of galaxy, compressing clouds of gas and dust, which collapse into stars that form a spiral pattern.

The primary purpose of the passage is to :

• Describe what results when a supernova triggers the creation of chains of star-forming regions.
• Propose a modification in the most widely accepted theory of spiral-galaxy structure.
• Compare and contrast the roles of clouds of gas and dust in two theories of spiral-galaxy structure.
• Describe a new theory of spiral-galaxy structure and contrast it with the most widely accepted theory. (Answer)

38. The passage implies that, according to the new theory of spiral-galaxy structure, a spiral galaxy can be created by supernovas when the supernovas are:
• producing an underlying density wave
• affected by a density wave of spiral form
• located in a differentially rotating galaxy (Answer)
• distributed in spiral pattern

39. Which of the following, if true, would most discredit the new theory as described in the passage?
• The exact mechanism by which a star becomes a supernova is not yet completely known and may even differ for different stars.
• The most massive stars formed from supernova explosions are unlikely to evolve into supernovas. (Answer)
• Computer simulations of supernovas provide a poor picture of what occurs just before a supernova explosion,
• A density wave cannot compress clouds of gas and dust to density high enough to create a star.

40. The author's attitude toward the new theory of spiral- galaxy structure can best described as :
• euphoric
• concerned
• enthusiastic (Answer)
• critical

Don’t be so SWEET that people will gulp you,
Don’t be so BITTER that people will hate you.

Sail on the ship of SUCCESS
And land on the port of AMBITION

Life is like a MIRROR
Reflects what you do
So do the BEST you can and the BEST will come to you!

Standing at the foot
And grazing at the SKY
How will it get up thus?
If you don’t TRY

Things may change in many ways
But one thing changes never
The memories of our SCHOOL DAYS

Roses can DRY
Rivers can SHY
You can forget me
HOW CAN I ?

You asked me to WRITE
What shall I write?
Two LiTtLe words
REMEMBER ME !

Some like ONE
Some like TWO
But I like ONE and that is YOU!

Break a GOLDEN ship
Break a SILVER ship
But don’t break our FrIeNdShIp or ReLaTiOnShIp

The ring is RANG and has no end
My LOVE for you will never end

Advices are given to those who are apart
Why should I write to you when you are in my HEART?

Life is like a MIRROR
SMILE and it will SMILE back at you
Worry is INTEREST
Paid on TROUBLE
Before it is due

Don’t get FRUSTRATED by anyone
Control your ANGER till it dies
Think over this ADVICE
It will be better further in your life

When you see a MOUSE in your house
Just pull its TAIL and remember ME without FAIL

When you open the curtains
And look at the stars
Remember u have a friend named
A-N-O-O-P
Wherever U are !

P.S. These are not my own lines. I just found it interesting

Is declaring global variables a good practice????

Posted: 06 Aug 2011 11:37 PM PDT

Hey ppl,

This is a good question asked to my friend in his interview. They asked him to make a simple stack program. He made it using array and declaring it globally so each function could access it easily. But they told him, its not good to use global variables in program. And according to him this might be the reason he didnt get selected. Can anyone throw some more light on this????
