What's Ultimate In Display Technology? (Hint: We Already Have Eyes)

Posted: 02 Jul 2011 09:44 AM PDT

I've often wondered, what'd be the ultimate in display technology. We're already at 1080p and scientists have already created resolutions much higher than the 'Full HD'. But it all leads to making the electronic screens display what our eyes see. Thinking on these lines, the ultimate achievement in display technology would be to make digital screens that make us feel that we're watching the scene with our naked eyes.

Maybe we'll reach there within next 5 years. But what next?

Build the next generation lunar rover or a water-rocket; design a lunar research facility or an underwater rover - what ever you do, its your chance to achieve glory in the first ever national level space competition organised in India. And you could win the prizes worth Rs. 40,000!

Set the power of your imagination free - and let the challenge begin.

Competitions:

  • WaterRocketry - The Rocketry Challenge : The water rocketry challenge is a competition to build a rocket powered by pressurised water. The competition focuses on designing better rocket designs that would achieve the teams to obtain a the greatest range of flight, when launched at a particular angle from the horizontal. The participants need to study the basic of rocketry and come up with their own designs.
  • MoonLab Challenge - The Lunar Settlement Design Challenge : India has already touched the lunar soil through the Chandrayaan - I mission and very soon the robots of the Chandrayaan -II mission woulb roving the lunar surface. Its high time that we start prepare for human exploration of the lunar Surface. Operation MoonLab is a competition about designing a research settlement on the surface of the Moon. The teams need to represent a company and send in proposals for their settlement designs. The teams must take care of all perpectives of survival of humans on moon - air, food, water, etc. The MoonLab Mission is scheduled to last for a period of 10 years in which at any moment approximately 100 residents would live on the settlement. 2. On-spot Presentation : Teams shortlisted on the basis on online submissions shall be invited to present their proposals in front of eminent judges.
  • Submerge - The Underwater Robotics Challenge : Using an underwater environment to simulate the conditions of space, the underwater robotics challenge is all about making highly maneuverable underwater rovers . The teams need to make rovers that can perform several tasks that shall be assigneed underwater, while sticking to a pre-determied path.
  • MoonBots - The Lunar Robotics Challenge : Build the next generation of manual rovers that can traverse through one of the most difficult terrain , the lunar terrain. Which is the best Digital Camera to buy?

Posted: 02 Jul 2011 05:25 AM PDT

Friends,
I am going to buy a digital camera for vacations. I was thinking which one is the best? I want one for a rough and tough use. Something like for Jungle trip, mountaineering etc.
What about more sophisticated cameras? Can we use them? I think nowadays cameras are built that way for multipurpose use.
What is your opinion? The price range is no problem. I only want quality :)

pen drive write protected

Posted: 02 Jul 2011 05:21 AM PDT

if your pen drive shows when your trying to do format "the disk is write protected "

then..

1. Open Start Menu >> Run, type regedit and press Enter, this will open the registry editor.

2. Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\StorageDevicePolicies

• The problem can also be caused by some virus activity so just get it scanned by some updated good anti virus which may solve your problem.
• BUT if none of the methods listed above solves your problem then your pen drive might have gone corrupted, so just get it replaced.
Hope any of the methods listed above solves your problem.

Over the last month, more than 7,700 Googlers helped serve their communities across 400 different projects as part of GoogleServe, an employee-driven initiative organized almost entirely by volunteers. Through partnerships with nonprofits, schools and local governments, Googlers from 119 cities in 36 countries helped communities in need with projects ranging from educating youth about online bullying to cleaning up local rivers and parks.

Here's a sampling of some of the projects Google participated in this time around:

How to invite your friends to Google+?

Posted: 02 Jul 2011 03:19 AM PDT

A lot of people want to get in on the beta test of Google +.
To invite your friends, you have to use a built-in e-mail option for Google+ that happens to have a viral marketing component.

Here are the steps: First, figure out who you'll send invitations to. If they're already in your Gmail address book or another Google service, you're a step ahead. If not, there's some cutting and pasting in your future.
For friends whose e-mails are already in your Gmail address book or otherwise discoverable in Google+'s Circles section, add them to a special circle you created for G+ invitees. If they're not in your contacts, just hold onto their addresses for now.
Next, start a new Google+ message, the equivalent of a Facebook update message or a Twitter tweet.

In it, type an invitation message with an expectations-lowering caution.

Here's what people have been saying: "This message serves as an invite to Google+. Google throttles the signup rate, though, so it may not work at first. If not, try again later."

Next, address the message. Clear out any existing circles, then add your Google+ invitee circle. If you have individual e-mail addresses, now's the time for pasting: click on the "+Add more people" words below the message box and paste in the addresses. You'll have to click on each one to register it as you go.
Last, click the "share" button. That's it!;)

TOEFL Vs GRE

Posted: 02 Jul 2011 12:04 AM PDT

i found it good and informative.

You need to take the TOEFL exam to prove that you have the required english level to study in an english speaking environment. Beside the TOEFL test some universities ask the student to take the TSE (Test of Spoken English) specially if you are offered a teaching assistant position or the TWE (Test of Written English). The majority of the universities however don't need these two tests.

You will not be able to get a visa if your TOEFL score is less than 550 (at least this is the case for Canada). However, the universities have even higher requirments. If you score more than 600 then you are more or less safe. If you are not sure of your ability then take the exam a little bit early so that you have the chance to take it a second time if your score is low. Note however that TOEFL scores are valid only for two years so don't take it too early.

GRE are on the other hand valid for 5 years. But GRE scores have another problem: all your test history is indicated on the score sheet. So if you are not yet ready for GRE, don't enter it and get a bad score since it will always appear in your score sheet.
GRE has a general test divided into 3 parts (verbal, quantitative and analytical) and several subject tests. The majority of the universities do not require the engineering subject test. Actually it is a very general test in basic engineering (fluids, thermodynamics, civil, electrical power, electronics, mechanics, ...). So to enter it you must study again everything you was tought in first and second year of the faculty which is not an easy task :-). Since it is so general the universities don't think it shows your ability to do postgraduate research in a specific field. On the other hand if you plan to go for computer `science' (not engineering) you will generally have to do a subject test in CS.

One thing to note is that GRE is strongly required by a wide majority of US univerisities and nearly totally ignored by Canadian universities. Anyway the more or less acceptable scores are: more than 750/800 for the quantitative part, this is quite easy for us engineers; more than 700/800 for the analytical, this is not hard to accomplish also and more than 400/800 for the verbal. This last part (verbal) is really the hardest to fulfill and usually the universities require higher scores but the egyptian english level (at least what I saw here at CUFE) does not exceed this score very much.

Don't worry if your scores are less than the above mentioned grades for TOEFL and GRE, universities can and do accept students having scores less than the published requirments. This, however, depends strongly on your other qualities (field of research, recommendation letters, availability of funding, a faculty professor who knows you personnaly, ...)
