Zzz my head has been spinning from all the central sales taxes(cst) that have been posting here... I say it was a good move by the admin to ban all the csts except the main real one... Avoids us a lot of confusion...

Yesterday i installed the new TruHD from DishTV ( already i am using SUNHD with 8 HD channels )
I decided to get dishtv as they are advertising that they are providing 30 HD channels.

Now I am getting only 4 HD channels at Dishtv including Star Cricket HD ( and they say after the ac activation i will get 30 channels )

I will update the thread once my ac gets activated.

This problem is probably due to DNS error. Configure Open DNS in the LAN properties Internet Protocal (TCP/IP)- incase of WIN XP or in IP version 4 in Vista/Win7
Open DNS : 208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220

Tikona service is ok, but may vary according to your location.

Hmmm, based on your observation of 5 hrs = 2% we do not get an accurate number. Here are my thoughts on that:
- Most software will not round off floating point numbers to upper or lower integers, they usually truncate them to the lower integer.
- If that assumption is true, the 2% could actually mean anywhere between 2 and 2.99...%
- Given these two ranges the HD recording capacity turns out to be anywhere between 250 hrs & 166 hrs.
- If we take the lower range then also we get a SD:HD ratio of 3.7, which is quite good.

I am currently using TS+ SD and toying with the idea of upgrading to HD. A bit hesitant due to the following reasons:
- Initial glitches in the firmware (I had a very bad experience with the DishTV DVR when they launched it for the first time five years back).
- Poor upscaling of SD channels, causing video artifacts.

Anybody aware of the make of the DVR? If I can get hold of that information I can do some more research on the performance of the equipment in general.

This part is a bit unclear. Earlier they were adamant that the plan change should happen only on 1st of every month to make billing process hassle free. But they failed to do it on 1st and usually it happened on 1st week. A few members who use the udaan site claims that their plan was changed in 1 -2 days time. So as of now, you can change in the middle of the month.

on 3G ive had bad experiences. Speaking to my clients on the phone suddenly the call drops. then it takes forever to get the signal back. As for moving in trains i hardly get the 3G signal

I must tell you not just picture quality but AUDIO clarity is superior than STB2. After hearing voice on STB3, what i was getting on STB2 was just a sort of 1970 radio station voice!!! I was keeping my voice on 40 or 50 and i could hear properly but on this new STB3; at the level of just 5 or 6, it is damn powerful voice that i am getting out from that. WOW experience NOW.

I am so happy and so much satisfied with RELIANCE that finally they got in action and gave me a solution without charging me any money even though my warranty expired 2 years ago.

Anyway, logo is bigger and doesnt look good but still its better than having "BIG TV" in red. At least, i got from that big red symbol out of it. They can simply get rid of that blue background now and white font "RELIANCE" written is just good for them to go.

I dont think that menu change has become any faster for now. Its still too slow. but overall i am happy that at least they came up with something.

yup, but i think the retention dept. are banging thr head now as they moved me to 1mbps swift plan but not upgrading it to 2mbps thing they commited , after 3 complaints (ohh yes i wasted a week waiting for thr calls) today i got a call from them that they will solve the matter in 48hrs.

I am planning to shift to Idea.....
Of what i have heard till now is - any "Prepaid" balance standing to our name, when we switch, gets forfeited & we dont get anything out of it.....
Is this true, or just a myth?? If its just a myth, then i can switch over right now itself, coz i am fed up of giving away my balance to Vodafone. Their charges, especially STD and all are pathetic - Idea has far better plans that can suit me.

okay... 2 days with airtel 3G... the GPS always locates me somewhere 2 kms away from my actual location.. both indoors and outdoors..
earlier it used to be 30-40 meter ... and i thought it is because of slow edge networks.. this galaxy s GPS chip is out of the world faulty...

Regarding NTSC Tv...
Mine is a ntsc tv, has 1080i capability, i got this Tatasky HD plus box and tried HDMI and its not working, however i am able to use component cables and only on resolution of 576i I am able to watch the TV with out converter.
Quality is not bad...

I am also intrested in what you are trying to do (ie using ntsc hdtv in india ) but i think you would need a video converter to convert pal to ntsc no matter if its sd or hd even using the hdmi cable. So unless the hd dvr has the setting to output the signal to ntsc you will need a converter .well ive been using the dvdo edge for abt a year and i think it does an excellent job without degrading the hd quality during conversion for what you would need.
So pls keep us updated abt ur findings

SIM card for US to INDIA calls

Hi

I am looking for a cheap sim card, something like voip which can be used with a US phone

Phone can be sent from india as well.

The only requirement is that there is no net connection at my place in the US and i cannot use a PC or a laptop.It has to be a phone in which i can use a sim.

Can it be done and please guide how how to go about doing it
