Vodafone India: Huge increase in unbilled usage in just 5 days from start of billing cycle.

Posted: 02 Mar 2011 02:39 AM PST

Yes, first time user for Vodafone Mobile Connect :). I have already lodged a complaint, noted down the complaint number and even emailed the problem to them. Anyway my credit limit is Rs.2100 so it cannot go beyond that. But if they are giving 2GB limit, technically we cannot use that 2GB due to the low credit limit. Just a guess. Keeping my fingers crossed

Child PAck on Zee Dish TV DTH

Posted: 02 Mar 2011 02:26 AM PST

No you can take child pack, but HD should be parent and the normal should be Child. Also this needs to be done only when buying the STB and not later. I had done this after the fact in the past but my recent HD purchase I didnt mention upfront and so I have ended up paying more monthly for that.

Should I take Zee DishTruHD?

Posted: 02 Mar 2011 02:24 AM PST

1.) AFAIK no DVR
2.) Not yet, but they are on the way. There was some rumors that it could be upscaled, so unsure. I have the HD STB btw.
3.) CC sucks at times needing multiple calls sometimes and some yelling and abusing, but the job gets done. I just screamed at them for delaying me getting the Mono LnB and got it in a day after that.
4.) Clarity is good on DishTV HD or non-HD, I have 3 at home. And am satisfied.

Pathetic services from Airtel Broadband

Posted: 02 Mar 2011 01:59 AM PST

I took a new Airtel Broadband connection and plan that I subscribed for is a 2MBps plan. I have not got over 512 kbps speed and the average is 256kbps. I called and still no one did anything about it but the installation office called me the next day of installation date and told me if I was getting 2MBps speed on Airtel website then there is nothing wrong with their side. my 512 kbps connection was running faster than this one. I have called them many times and no use. I get put on a long hold and then eventually disconnected. I wrote my complaint in a few consumer forums and I got a reply from Airtel office on 25th Feb and the next day they called and I explained .. they were in a hurry and said it will be fixed and hung up .. no one has paid any visit .. I called them again today and said I wanted to cancel and wanted my money back since its not even been 2 weeks of me getting the new internet connection. The guy I was talking to said I can only apply for cancellation after my first bill was generated and I will not get my refund for installation. There was already a connection before I moved in this house. I brought my own modem and phone and Airtel did not have to invest a penny in material to get me hooked up with the broadband. Moreover, I called the very next day complaining about the speed. That was the first time I sat and used it. I could not open one single youtube video without it pausing every couple seconds for buffering.
Now I know I am not being un reasonable. I get back from work at 3 am in the morning and I like to get online, watch a movie or stay in touch with my family on video call which is not that good since I got Airtel. It has been causing me mental trauma when I am on video call and it keeps dropping or we keep yelling back and forth and can't hear each other and it is mainly because of the poor internet connection which Airtel is not taking any responsibility for. I could always play movies before I got airtel even on a 512 kbps connection without them buffering on megavideo. and now I have to let it load and finally give up because it loads 5 minutes streaming video in 15 minutes.
I had a very bad experience with Airtel and do not wish to continue with them anymore. Please help me cancell my connection with Airtel and get my money back
Thank you
Himesh.
my Airtel fixed line number is 0124-4225066

Here’s from the BBC News where Ofcom wants the ISP’s to stop misleading news about Broadband. Currently most ISPs advertise services as ‘up to’ a certain speed – for instance, 20Mbps (megabits per second). But Ofcom’s latest research finds that very few consumers actually get these headline speeds. “There is a substantial gap between advertised [...]

I have a prepaid account and i don't understand why i have bill overdue. I call the customer service on loop mobile 800 they said i had no balance in my account i told them to kindly check again and they found out i have more then 30 rs in balance. The customer care were not able to give proper answe and told me to go and visit Loop Gallery. I don't know what wrong with those people. why have they rejected my Mobile Number Portability. Help needed in choosing a 3G data modem

Posted: 01 Mar 2011 10:56 PM PST

Hello everyone
I have an E1550 3G modem which I now find slow. So, I need a new modem which is at least 7.2 Mbps or 21 Mbps and uploads of 5.76 Mbps, supports an external antenna, and supports the 1900 MHz 3G band along with 2100 MHz. Budget - Rs. 2700(max)
The options available to me are -
Huawei E122 - quoted 2600 on ebay.in
Huawei E173 - quoted 2450 on ebay.in
But the above 2 modems do not support the 1900 MHz band in 3G and the last one does not even support an external antenna
Huawei E176 - seems to fit my needs but cannot find an online store for this model.

I came across -
Huawei E1762 - being sold for 2600 - supports all that I need but have no clue on how the modem is.. Some say its pretty bad(slow surfing speeds, frequent disconnections, etc.). Can anyone please comment?
and UMG 1831 also fits the requirements but its no longer affordable.. Available at an online price of about Rs. 3300. (was available for Rs. 2700 a month back.. **sigh**)

What do you people suggest? Which is the best modem as per my requirements? and if I have to drop that requirement of 3G frequencies(which I dont really want to but have no options) then which is the best modem out of E122, E173, E1762 ?

Petition to HAYAI to introduce <5mbps plans

Not going to happen. I've said it many times - We're filling a niche. We're aiming to be India's FASTEST ISP, not India's cheapest. If you still think we should do slower plans, then you clearly do not understand Hayai's purpose. End of story.

It's because of this kind of pricing that other ISPs have such trouble delivering anything other than 256kbit/s. Speed doesn't cost, data does. Basically, if you want to get a plan which everybody else has, go with everybody else.

No. Our Fair Usage Policy has been clearly explained in other threads - even on page 1 of the FAQs thread. Please read it. If you still don't understand it, please ask.

also what is this in your link
Data plans and/or Fair Usage Policies indicate bandwidth in each direction, e.g. 1GB download + 1GB upload, NOT 1GB in divided between download and upload.

wTF

It means that instead of 1GB down and 1GB up being counted as 2GB of usage as it is with most ISPs, we count it as 1GB down and 1GB up separately. To put it in more easily understood terms, if you are seeding a torrent, this means you can seed to a 1.0 ratio.

(or)

b. throttle you down to 45 GB , by either giving lousy 256/512 kbps speeds or give a small Fair Usage Policy of 10/20 GB & then throttle

He feels there are dozen ISPs doing b. & hence no point in becoming 1 more in this group. Therefore he feels he can potentially tap the market & get people who are happy with the option a. - more so since no one seems to be even thinking about it.

@warthog - I am sure you would have PM'ed mg about this new thread as per his request, if not please do so.

BSNL 3G: Capped and trapped...

I read a article about mobile broadband they described giving individual speed to all is impossible in mobile network since it requires 10-20 times more spectrum at-least. Every country started keeping caps on mobile broadband to prevent few people damaging network quality due to very high cost of spectrum coz its a limited resource. I saw docomo has highest data plan in 3g is 15 GB cap. oops we forget its only for mobile devices. I wish BSNL provide UL1350 with at-least 100GB cap. Pay per site is worst nightmare.

Where do people come up with this stuff?

Spectrum is far from a limited resource - spectrum is light, although at the frequencies we are talking about we call it by the name "radio". While there are certain definitions as to which parts of the spectrum are suitable for various types of wireless technologies, it's not the factor which causes operators to put limits on wireless plans - it's more a quality of service issue.

With "unlimited" access - or even 100GB per month per subscriber - it's very difficult to provide a good quality of service over wireless, no matter how little or how much spectrum you own.

You can test this yourself with any consumer WiFi router - connect 3 or 4 clients to it and send files to each other and see how the throughput reduces exponentially, even if you have the latest N standard devices. Now imagine that multiplied by 100 (albeit on much better hardware).

I think i tried all the diff options. Later on the Stalker game also did similar choices (though they were diff) and now a lot of games follow that style
