Speedtest.net - World Results

Expand the list and c UAE is exactly on 30 th rank, beating US and UK.

IMO, the US doesn't have anything to sing about either, nor does the UK, but more to the point, speedtest.net is automatically skewed - the UAE server is provided by du, one of the only 2 ISPs in the country, and so speeds between that server and the customer will naturally be good.

For a more accurate look at the situation, we can always check the Akamai "State of the Internet" report which is going to show what speeds are given when customers are accessing actual content, and if you check page 30, you'll find it actually has an average connection speed of just 2.4mbit/s, with the UK at 4.0 and the USA at 5.0 - so who is right?

But again. Big who cares. This is a BSNL thread. I'm sure I'm not alone in asking that we talk about BSNL only. Thanks for your anticipated co-operation.

Time to say goodbye to MTNL

Matt how soon will Hayai Lite roll out in Andheri (E) if your imminent visit strikes pay-dirt? I'm asking because Lite may be quicker to reach me than fibre. And also my primary use will be VOIP with a bit of browsing and You tube thrown in for good measure. I believe the 20 GB do.

Coming to 137-139, I am ignorant about the DC+ stuff but I thought it would be using the NetBIOS/SMB ports.

Business plans are subject to different conditions of course - same as any other ISP around the world. We could always provide some kind of relay or DNS matching to corporate clients - which would be made even easier if they host with our hosting partner, then we can create a static route. Of course, one can always change the SMTP port on the server, or require SSL connections too.

Hayai's own mail server doesn't operate on port 25 - we have SSL by default, but if the mail client doesn't support SSL we have an alternate port with mandatory authentication.

At the end of the day, we aren't even offering email addresses by default - the email address used for our network and account purposes is set up by default to forward to the email address supplied at signup (so we send the invoices/updates to you@hayai.tld and it forwards to you@example.com).

A mailbox is provided for free if requested - just most people don't request. Ripunjay tells me he gets maybe 3 a month, as most people have got Yahoo or Gmail or whatever anyway, and the last thing people need is another email address to remember.

As for DC++, I think the default is 1412 or something, so it should be fine.

Unfair practice being carried out by TATA SKY

But before i leave, let me tell you one thing - if we do not see anything wrong in this move Tata Sky has taken - then the time is not very far when they will come up with another feature - say, downloading contents directly in your PVR or surfing the web on TV through the PVR through the internet you already have at your home or office - but wait! - Tata sky will announce - you have to purchase another box @ Rs. 3999 or Rs. 4999 - why so? - because the current box is not compatible because they have not put the WAN card in it (so that you can surf or download wirelessly through wi-fi) or even not through the already available ethernet port in it because it has become outdated by now or there is some technical glitch.

Ok Tata sky - no problem - we are new generation folks and we understand that the things get outdated just even in six months - so we will buy a new box, we will pay another 4000 rupees and we will also throw away the existing box which we paid Rs. 3,999 for and we will accept that is absolutely worthless in six month as far as the new features are concerned.

And as soon as the whole customer base of Tata sky plus settled down to enjoy with another new box, voila! they have a new feature - you can plug your 20 GB USB pen drive directly in the STB and can play all the music, photos and videos therein and open and read documents - word, excel or pdf - as well as - you can send them attached through email if you wish to anyone you want. Also, the user interface is super cool this time, more user friendly, more intuitive. Do you want it? - yes, yes of course! - i do want it i send a lot of emails or it is cool to be able to play media of my own choice on my LCD just by inserting by USB pen into it..... Hey! But wait... the existing USB port is not compatible and the new UI can also not be implemented just through software update... so you have to purchase a new box, and sorry this time it is a bit costly - Rs. 8,999 + 99 paise + taxes. Oh! And what about the existing box we just upgraded just a couple of months ago? Sorry my loyal customers! throw away - that is of no use folks. And no you can not sell it - it is locked and you have signed an agreement for that, and there is also no ownership transfer possible so you can even not gift it.

The problem is here guys!

On us, they do have kept gun... the only thing is you have to see it in long run...

Thanks!

The only solution we have is not to be the first to jump on every new bandwagon that comes along.

What beautiful thing you have built, tell us

Posted: 01 Mar 2011 02:28 AM PST

There was a big house which I got from our mom's dad in inheritance but the house was in shabby condition and no body would like to enter in that house. It was dingy and most of the part were in withering condition. Finally I decided to put some money in the construction cost and hired a contractor for rebuilding it.We started with the foundation and it took around 3 months to get completed. And I also spent some space for the garden and in side the plot as it was a big plot. Now it looks wonder and the garden which I have maintained inside the wall is so beautiful that every body like it.Every thing which I used in building is the latest and attractive. Now my family appreciate this and we have rented this house to some tenants and they too like it very much.

As far as I know there is only Sify, TATA and BSNL Broadband providers in Dombivli.

Am with Fablinks/WebNet for past many years and the service has been stable (unlink Fortune/DIS) but, I thirst for more speed. That's the reason am looking for a new Provider.

Sify doesn't offer 2 Mbps. TATA does and BSNL. BSNL Tilak Nagar Officer everytime says it will be started in our area with 2 months. Today he also said the same thing.

Last left is only TATA.

Am thinking of applying for the same.

Have read a lot of BAD things abt TATA so am slowing down the process to apply for it now.

You can send a written complaint with receipt to both Nodal officer and Appellate authority. ID and phone no. behind you bill. You can also call them and seek help. If you have an exchange just 1 KM away, try to get a connection there. Since you are in good terms with SDE, you may able to persuade him. Give it a try.

Watch TATA(Sky HD on computer moniters (with out a TV Tuner Card)

Posted: 28 Feb 2011 11:49 PM PST

@sweetlacchi Guess what, I have the same setup. HDMI goes to my HD monitor and Y,Pb,Pr (component) goes to the VGA on my projector (Dell 1410x).
Ofcourse, there is quality loss when you are showing a 1920x1080 signal on a say 1024x768 monitor. But believe me it is far far better picture than your regular 720x480 PAL resolution on SD TV.
So go ahead and get a component to VGA cable and enjoy the world cup in full HD.

Experience with Reliance 3G

Posted: 28 Feb 2011 11:31 PM PST

Well, I have posted a lot on how good Reliance 3G is. So, let me jazz it up a bit.
I am using it from past one month, so I have experienced it enough to conclude how it is.
Anyways, I won't recommend anyone to use it s a primary connection, because the service is full of ups and downs.

I tried to get settings for my phone and the server said, your device isn't listed. So no cookies for you.
I Googled and got the settings. Went to a shop to do a Net pack recharge, they said, "Reliance ka system pappu hai, so, sorry" ..hmm :isleep:
In mid February, I had trouble with MMS.
I called customer care that the MMS service is not activated on my phone.
They replied that your balance is zero, do a recharge and it will be activated.
I recharged my number, and tried to activate the MMS service, and all my balance got deducted bit by bit.

I called customer care again and a person speaking haryanvi listened to my querry and concluded that.
you basically have problem with GPRS, right? I was like /facepalm.
I said yes, then he forwarded my call to some higher authorities and I waited 8 minutes listening to that boring flute. Nothing happened.
After some days it got activated and I lost Rs5 for sending a MMS to my own number otherwise they won't register me.
My balance was again back to "0"
I recharged my phone again and subscribed to some internet plan. After 30mb of usage my balance was again back to zero, yup, "0"
hmmm.... did I mention the 1 week downtime? Yup, from the last week it was not working.
To be really honest there is a lot more, but, I just don't feel like recalling it all again.

The speeds I have posted above is result of some workaround.
That's what I am going to do with this piece of shit now :)
Paise tou wasool karne he hai :D

Right here is a mistake. In principle you have already agreed that the lawmaker knows what is best for you. So you are limited to reacting to overreach of the law instead of questioning the law that enables 'them' to stand in judgment without any recourse for its victims.

Mozilla Firefox 4 Beta Updates

Posted: 28 Feb 2011 11:08 PM PST

"Mozilla is planning to release four new versions of its open source browser by the end of this year. That means Firefox 4, Firefox 5, Firefox 6, and Firefox 7 are all slated to ship in 2011. Mozilla was originally planning on having Firefox 4 out by the end of last year, but it had to delay the release. The last release was Beta 10 but there are still probably two more betas, at least one release candidate, and of course a final build. It's clear the company no longer thinks this model is a good one, and wants to accelerate its release cycle, much like Google did with Chrome.

Posted: 28 Feb 2011 07:40 AM PST

In case of dth services they have limited amount of Bandwidth available so they won't add much channels . But in IPTV they can add 500+ channels . What is the problem with Myway ? They have sufficient space to broadcast channels ,but not adding any new channels . How many years we have to wait to watch HD Channels in BSNL IPTV ? They don't know the fact that if they add more channels they get more subscribers [In India Quantity is more important than quality] .

The OOMA hub shouldn't need any PPPoE details to set up - it's a phone box, all you should do is configure your login name and password for the OOMA service. If the WBR1310 has more than one ethernet port, plug your PC in to one and the OOMA hub in to another (there's not much point in doing as WBR1310 >> OOMA >> PC unless the WBR1310 has only 1 ethernet port - in which case, it still should not require your PPPoE details).

Thanx for the reply.
I know that I could do as per your explained setup, WBR=>ooma but i want to connect ooma first with ISP cat-5 cable because WBR has not any Qos feature whereas ooma has it. If I connect WBR first and meantime, any computer comes online, the bandwidth will be shared and ooma may suffer some voice quality. Therefore, It is better to connect with OOMA first to get better performance and deliver the rest of bandwidth for WBR.
I am still not understanding the problem with OOMA. As I think there is a problem with MTU in ooma which can not change. It detects automatically.
I also contacted with tech support of OOMA but no result.
I think I have to buy another separate router for OOMA to keep it online 24x7......

Waiting for reply if anyone has something in mind.

Thanxxxxx mg again.

By the way, About the mac. I have double checked from ISP side, There is no mac bound for me. And Also I have changed ooma mac to my pc. It still does not work.

Samsung STB cannot be connecetd to PC TV tuner

Posted: 28 Feb 2011 05:20 AM PST

It is now clear that the STB for Hi Definition from Samsung that SD gives has only HDMI output and no signal in the composite and S video.Connecting the AV output to AV input of TV or PC tuner will just give the menu but no HD signal. So only people with LCD HD TV or LED HD TV can use the set top box.....but Tata sky and others offer all the outputs.

Some minor changes

I have shifted to Firefox beta builds and I must admit that after a long time, there has been a credible worthwhile option in the Open Source. I have always aligned with open source; though I have been using Opera as my default browser. The annoyances come in when one can’t customize the software to [...]

According to my cable guy it will take another 3 to 4 months for them to come up with HD set top boxes

Does hathway have a recording faciltiy like Tata SKy Plus?

I spoke to my cable guy, it is Rs7500 now. DVR has 160GB HDD. So apprx. 50 hours or recording. He told me that apart from normal cable charges, you need to pay recording charges as well it seems. Recording charges are free for one year. He doesn't know how much will be the recording charges.

What to do: Operators rejecting number port!?!

Posted: 28 Feb 2011 04:11 AM PST

I was always of the mind that there is ALWAYS a loophole in India for everything, and one can even get away with murder if he/she exploits the loophole in some way.
Mobile Number Portability was about to change that idea, but I just received a message on my Dad's no (Loop Mobile) that reads like this:
REQUEST REJECTED BY DONOR DUE : SUBSISTING CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS FROM THE SUBSCRIBER AGREEMENT.

NOW, an absolutely HOPELESS service like Loop Mobile that dare to even call themselves mobile service providers (dropped calls, frequent cross connections, extremely poor network etc) has the guts to send a message like this when ALL OUR DUES are clear, ALL VALUE ADDED SERVICES unsubscribed, and EVERYTHING else in proper order.

I am so angry that I can go to any lengths to get my message across to the highest of authorities.

Please guide me through this.

This is a NEW MENACE FROM Telephone Companies against Mobile Number Portability, their nemesis.
