Although I admire Fivenet's gall with having this plan, I have to wonder that if they don't have such a stable network, perhaps some other provider is more suitable - maybe Reliance is OK (if anyone other than Sach92 cares to comment) or maybe Spectranet.

I don't use that plan(with citywide DC++ network you don't really require that plan ;)) and by what i have observed from the discussion of other users, they manage 400Kbps on an average which is pretty decent considering the cost.

thanks to both.

@soodgautam.
u dont know my family's tv addition. if they know that something can be recorded...then they will watch all the shows they watch anyway + they will start recording more shows as well... they will think everything is RECORDABLE..and keep recording (even if they will never watch it)

they will keep recording junk and i will have to keep trashing junk.

they dont realize that STB consumes power too.

but now i am thinking of recorder!

A question regarding porting from Vodafone to any network.

Posted: 26 Feb 2011 02:07 AM PST

I have a prepaid vodafone connection since the last 3 years, the catch with my number is that its not on my name ( i cant even arrange for the id proof of the guy on whose name the number is)

I went to the vodafone store and they suggested me to get my number converted to postpaid - which i dont want !!

Under the Mobile Number Portability, i wanted to know if its possible that I port my number to Aircel or idea or any other network and submit 'my' Identity proof to them ?? What can be the problems that i can face ??

Idea and reliance people just said that its not possible to submit some one else's id, i need the same id which was provided in getting my vodafone number. Whereas, Aircel and MTS people are ready to do it...will it be that i'll be stuck ?

whats behind the scenes that i'm not aware of ? Is there a guideline that says that you need the same id proof ??

Sexism on an Idigo Flight!

Posted: 26 Feb 2011 12:20 AM PST

Well its written "middle aged man" so i assume that he was around 50.

so its not amusing thing.. i have come across many such men who think that women cant do certain things.

its not his fault as well.. because in India women's growth has been rapid just in last 20-25 years...so half of his life he has been under wrong impression abt women and work (some impressions in early age of life, dont just go whole life).. and then it cud be first time he was travelling in plane... and then all of sudden if u realise that "pilot is woman".. at such age.. one might just panic!

Tata Sky Plus HD

Posted: 25 Feb 2011 11:49 PM PST

Got my Tata sky plus HD installed last week. HD channels look good but i am very disappointed with the clarity of non HD channels. They are too blurry compared to my old tata sky box. Takes long time to switch between channels sometimes i feel like its stuck. Not a good product. Only HD is good.

Didnt like this box at all. Even channels like NDTV 24x7, Times now are too blurred. I am thinking abt connecting my old box again. Cant watch 3 HD channels all the time.

Google Social Search changes everything!

Posted: 25 Feb 2011 01:22 PM PST

If you are logged in and have linked your social networking profiles (especially Twitter) with your Google Account, searching would never be the same again.

From my own experience, Google has started showcasing results shared by you and your friends on Twitter (and other networks like Buzz … Not Facebook though I believe as they block Google) in the first page itself.

Earlier these pages were shown at the bottom of the page. So you could check them out specifically or simply ignore them. But now they are mixed with the search results and are highlighted with the name of the user who shared it.

This is good for the user I guess if his friends share good stuff on the web. It is bad for folks who follow a lot of random people on Twitter. And it is definitely not good for people who rely on SEO.

In simple terms… if you want to help me out… Share the useful links on broadbandforum.in through your Twitter accounts! Buzz should help too. :D

frequent disconnection

Posted: 25 Feb 2011 10:06 AM PST

ok, connect the splitter back on.

maybe you live too far from the exchange. sometimes low voltage also causes loss of dsl link.

---------- Post added at 11:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:28 PM ----------

try disconnecting the 'phone out' line from the splitter(connect only the line in & adsl out), and check.

ensure that there is no telephone connected parallel to the splitter input.

I don't think that is the correct reason. DD sports broadcast the commonwealth games and both the SD and HD channels showed the same images at the same time. So whether it was the sports or the ads or the commentary show from the studios . . . both channels were broadcasting the same stuff at the same time.

I dont know why ESPN hd is ad free but I'll take it without complaining. The only downer is if you wanna watch a match analysis or a match preview you have to goto the SD channel. HD shows nothing but the match. Quite strange!

photon plus device specs huawei ec152 cdma1x hsia

Posted: 25 Feb 2011 05:31 AM PST

Dear Mallik,
Today I got a new Photon+ connection & got the same device. I tested the speed and got 1.2Mbps in the afternoon. In the evening it is not going above 756Kbps. So I think the CDMA1X is not the theoretical limit of this device. HSIA probably stands for "High Speed Internet Access" device. Anyhow, do check your connection at Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test so as to get a fair idea of your device's performance. I'm also not very happy with its speed. I was hoping to get at least 2Mbps downlink. I was using Airtel Broadband fixedline @2Mbps which I was going to discontinue in favor of Tata Photon+. Will evaluate it for some more time before deciding.
