Many people do follow other sports but unfortunately they are not promoted in India. It has become obsession because it is one of the few sports at which India is excelling at intl. level.

Also, I think cricket's fan following will suffer a lot after Sachin retires.

These things are inter related. If you start watching other sports, money and advertising will come in and then the standard increases when more people start watching those sports.

Best example is Tennis. India may not have gud single players but still decent crowds ensure it has good following leading to more people getting interesting in it.

WorldCup 2011 Fantasy Cricket

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 02:13 AM PST

Hi guys,

Post your experiences on Fantasy Cricket website here.

I am managing Teams on ChampSelector (www.champselector.com) and Cricinfo(www.cricinfo.com) and enjoying both :-) ..

I prefer champselector though, for below mentioned reasons -
1. its relatively new ... means your chance of topping the leaderboard are more :thumb:..
2. simple rules
3. bowler score rules are such that, even if you are trailing by a huge margin if a bowler bowls well you stand a chance to get on the top...

Strategy - choose bowlers judiciously as bowling ecomony rate plays multiplier factor for counting points ...

Share your experinces :-) .. and Enjoy WorldCup

Hayai Broadband Pricing

With a wireless service costing significantly less to deploy, then we can break even when a person uses 1-2GB in a month, which seems reasonable even for a light user.

It's an option, for the economical users, I guess, but one thing I've also said is that the people who can't/don't want to pay more than Rs800/month for internet can use BSNL or Reliance or whoever else: I'm not particularly interested in this market (excepting my plans for Rural Broadband, but the model there is entirely different) and my opinion is that it is very crowded market segment already, and that the quality of service may suffer if we try to compete at that level.

I realize that this sounds like a bit of a "stuff you" to the users at the lower-end of the spectrum, but even in developed countries where the wholesale bandwidth is cheaper you won't get under Rs900 a month for even the most basic broadband. The segment of users we're talking about probably could care less about the joys of really high-speed and probably don't download too much anyway: I can see why it might be lucrative for some providers to go after that market, but perhaps not for us.

We can't really fairly be compared to MTNL either, because they're using old copper, which was likely installed well before the prices skyrocketed to what they are today. My grandmother-in-law purchased their house in Mahim for Rs 60,000 (or 16,000 - I don't recall which) in 1961 - to buy that house now would be near Rs 1Cr based on average values in the area. By comparison, we're trying to install cable at 2009 pricing, not 1961, 1991 or even 2001 pricing.

I've been discussing this on GTalk with coder92, and suggested he open this idea up for debate, so, as usual - thoughts and ideas?

Virgin Uk gives unlimited 10 MBPS connection in 12 GBP. with fair usage of 40GB and after that 2MBPS. (12 GBP= 880 INR) doesn't it economical??? I know the fact that fibre network and establishments are easy to deploy in london like city because of tunnel network. But Giving great traffic speed is what people will attract. For plan policy I have one idea in mind.

As you earlier said make the used choose their fair usage. say I choose 40 GB.
Now Senario 1>
I consumed 40 GB at 15th day and then used 4 or 10 GB with reduced speed.
2nd month I consumed 39 or 40 GB.
3rd mont I used 20 GB.
Now Senario 2>
I consumed 40 GB and the 9/10 GB at reduced rate.
2nd month after 40Gb I consumed 25 Gb traffic.
3rd mont I consumed 10 GB only.

>My point is for every new connection deploy 2tier fair usage policy. Highest speed till first fair usage.an then reduced speed also have another fair usage.
>If consumer is loyal enough (say used your service more than year) make a average of tree month's tier1 fair usage and tier2 fair usage. Or take everage as what is profitable to you. Because some times people uses 10 Gb mont only and if he utilizes 100 GB for two months in a year that should be ok.
> Third thing is allow bandwidth on demand. My 40GB consumed. I know I have to download marriage video of causin from abroad and that is 100GB. I call the customer care and ask for 101 GB additional bandwith just for this month and company will decide do I have to pay extra for that or I fall as non-abusing customer depend on my previous months usage and dont have to pay much.

> This are just idea from my side. I don't know how you manage bandwidth and how it costs you. But this idea can be useful with or without some modifications.

I strongly belive that abusive bandwith user (I call them megaleecher ) should be banned,,, but how you define leecher that is total different perspective.

It was PICNIC time on the sets of DIL SE DIYA…VACHAN

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 12:06 AM PST

Gaurav Khanna (Prem)and Neena Gupta (Dr. Kalyani) along with Vandana Joshi (Nandini ) from Zee TV's Dil Se Diya …Vachan were missing their Dilli ki sardi and decided to make the most of the sudden dip in temperature in amchi Mumbai. Filmcity, where the show's sets are located, is a vast expanse of small hilltops covered in a thick canopy of trees and the weather in the mornings is very chilly with a hint of floating mist which adds on to the romantic appeal of the place. In such weather, the demand for savouries and snacks also is the most discussed topic on the sets.

To make the most of this wonderful weather, one day Neena Ji decided to get a toaster from her home and Gaurav Khanna arranged for a barbecue stand. Soon the aromas of crisp toast laden with butter & jam, paneer and chicken tikka wafted in the air while masala chai brewed in the pot nearby. People on the sets had a blast with the sun on their back, hot snacks on their plate and the refreshing chill into beat the usual humid Mumbai air.

Gaurav Khanna says, " The weather in Mumbai this year is simply mindblowing. I always used to miss the biting cold, wearing colorful cardigans and mufflers, eating hot piping savouries and most importantly the weekend outdoor picnics after moving to Mumbai. It was Neena ji's idea to do this picnic….and trust me it brought back so many wonderful memories …!" A team that bonds together is a rarity nowadays truly in this cut-throat industry! Way to go Team Dil Se Diya…Vachan!

Loha ab alag avatar mein!

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 12:04 AM PST

Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo may be over, but that doesn't stop Loha Singh from continuing to revel in his true colors. Actor Sudesh Berry who essayed the role of Loha Singh in Agle Janam will now make an entry into Zee TV's Dil Se Diya Vachan as the devious lawyer Yashwant Sinha.

Yashwant Sinha is the lawyer who will fight the case that has been filed against Nandini's rapist Krushna (played by Ajay Chaudhary). Like Loha Singh, Yashwant too has many devious tricks up his sleeve that bring hell on earth in the lives of the families involved. His plans and actions will have Prem's entire family up in arms against Nandin!

"Yes, I will be playing the role of the lawyer in the show. The producers called me up last week and ofcourse having worked with Zee TV on Agle Janam as well, there is a certain comfort level that exists. How could I say no?? Also there are so many parallels between Yashwant and Loha that I almost feel like I am back on Agle Janam!" said Sudesh Berry when we contacted him.

Will Yashwant's entry jeopardize Prem and Nandini's relationship all over again?? Or will Krushna's plot finally be revealed to the world? To find out, tune in to Dil Se Diya Vachan every Monday to Friday at 7 PM, only on Zee TV.

Veebha Anand has a great fall..

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 12:00 AM PST

Veebha Anand who portrays the confident and bubbly village belle Sanskaar Laxmi in the new Zee TV show, has her task cut out as she has to bring to life a character which has the non-sophisticated and grounded touch to it!!

And being a girl from the rural backdrop, Veebha has to keep up to her high spirit by doing certain scenes, the typical village girl way!!

We hear that Veebha had to recently shoot a certain scene wherein she had to climb a tree along with her friends. After having a jolly time with them, she was to take a leap from the branch where she was perched to the ground below…

Our source from the set tells us, "There was a sequence where Laxmi climbs up a tree and is seated on one of its branches. She gossips about her would-be-in laws with her friends, and after all the talk she had to jump down from the tree".

And to bring in the right feel, Veebha actually chose to climb down the tree without a ladder, and literally jumped down…

"Veebha chose to climb down the tree without a ladder, and ended up landing on her hand which lead to some scratches on her elbows and hands. But the enthusiasm with which the girl managed to do the shot for something commendable".

We contacted Veebha who told us in excitement, "Yes, I had a great fall from the tree as our shot demanded it but the experience was great! I hope I get to do many more such scenes! It was a lot of fun!!".

Watch Veebha Anand as the happy go lucky village belle on Sanskaar Laxmi, every Monday to Thursday at 10.30 PM only on Zee TV.

The cold winters are surely getting under the skin of the writers of TV shows! Zee TV bids adieu to Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Ho Kijo on Friday, 11th February 2011

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 11:58 PM PST

Zee TV's 'Agle janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo', created waves across India for showcasing a prevalent social evil in society. The concept of 'selling the girl child amidst utter poverty to raise money for the rest of the family' had viewers hooked onto a reality rampant in the country. Agle Janam… showcased the struggle of a seventeen year old girl's optimism about life and her courage and compassion when it came to rescuing her family from the throes of hunger and abject poverty. The lead protagonist of the show, Laali (Ratan Rajput) became a household name along with other characters like Loha Singh (Sudesh Berry), Sumitra (Rupa Ganguly), Shekhar (Abhishek Rawat) who also gained a huge loyal viewership. But, just as all good things come to an end, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo too will come to a grand end with one and a half hour Maha-episode on Saturday, 12th February 2011 at 8pm.

Celebrating the successful completion of its journey of 423 episodes, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya hi kijo will come to a natural end. This week, Kaalu Bajrang (Kaanan) tries to entrap Riddhi (Ranvijay's daughter) and will have an encounter with Laali. The show will end with women power getting together as Jamuni, Rekha, Sumitra, Gangiya along with Laali join forces to wipe out the root cause of girl child trafficking.

Commenting on this, Zee TV Marketing Head, Mr. Akash Chawla said, "Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo is an excellent example of how a powerful story like this one will always command recognition compared to the glamorous stuff shown on television. The channel has always believed in innovation and differentiated programming which helped us in offering fresh concepts with strong characterizations. The show in its peak was delivering close to 4.5 TVRs. Currently in the 7:30 pm timeslot, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo will be replaced by with the magical love of Dev and Radhika in Choti Bahu. We are hoping that this 'power of love' will win many more million hearts with an all new story."

To celebrate the success of the show the entire cast is having a grand farewell party. "Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo is very close to my heart. This show made me so popular that I'm called Laali or to be precise Lalia all over the world. I'll miss shooting with my co-stars, who have become as close to me as my own family," said Ratan Rajput trying hard to hide her sadness.

Abhishek, who essays the character of Shekhar, says, "I'm feeling very nostalgic that the show is coming to an end as I have some wonderful memories playing the role of Shekhar. I owe all my success to this show and to Zee TV. I thank the viewers for all the adulation we received. The crew & cast have become like family to me and I'm going to miss working with them."

Laali's last fight!

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 11:58 PM PST

Life has never been easy for Zee TV's Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo lead Laali and it seems that the writers of the show are determined to ensure that it stays that way right until the end! With the show coming to its natural end this week, Ratan Rajput aka Laali finds a new evil lurking around the corner in the form of Kaalu Bajrangi, a man who is notorious for the trade of young girls in and around Bishanganj. Actor Kaanan, who has essayed the role of Dharam veer in Na Aana Iss Des Laado, will be stepping into the shoes of Kaalu Bajrangi!
So how does it feel to step into the role of a character for just a short while?Great actually, if we are to believe actor Kaanan... "To be a part of a well received show like Agle Janam, is a great honour, even if it is a short stint. I'm enjoying myself playing such a negative character like Kaalu – even the name itself is enough to instill fear in the minds of people who hear it!!" says Kaanan with laugh.
Watch Laali, in her crusade against the immoral Kaalu, fight to put an end to the nefarious trade of young girls in the last week of the show. Does she emerge victorious? Tune in to Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo from Monday to Friday at 7.30 PM only on Zee TV.

Arooni Irani loves grabbing all the jewellery!

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 11:57 PM PST

Turns out that age is no bar when it comes to the old adage "diamonds are a girl's best friend"!! This is what the team of Zee TV's Sanjog Se Bani Sangini learnt when they found all the jewellery sets being directed to one star's vanity van everyday. Well, no points for guessing who uses that van ….veteran actress Aroona Irani!

"Even at her age, Arunaji loves to look her very best when the cameras are rolling. Whether it be her health, costume or make-up; she makes sure that she gets the best and makes no bones about it too. She tips the costume assistant well so that he brings the entire box of jewellery first to her as it comes to the sets so that she can have the first pick of the 'loot' and look her best! " added the source.

When contacted Aroonaji, she remarked, "Well, I am playing the rich thakurain in the show for which one has to look good and dressed in accessories that make her look like a wealthy lady of the house. I don't demand all this but my character does, so I have to be very particular about what I wear and how I look."

Catch Aroona Irani liven up the small screen as the 'scheming' Rajrani who doesn't want to see Gauri & Rudra happy together, onZee TV's Sanjog Se Bani Sangini every Monday to Thursday at 10 PM.

Ajay Chaudhary: “SRK is my hero”

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 11:55 PM PST

Obsession often takes many forms. Where women are often obsessed with shoes and accessories; men tend to be obsessed with sports and gadgets! We hear that these days, actor Ajay Chaudhary of Zee TV's Dil Se Diya Vachan, is actually learning to develop a new obsession – Nandini!!

Now, now, it is not what you think. Ajay is not turning psychotic on anyone, so let your heads and hearts lie easy. The actor is actually just trying to get into the skin of his character Krushna who has nursed an obsession for the lead protagonist Nandini for years. He is inspired by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and apes his idol's role in Darr to get the character of Krushna right. He has watched Shah Rukh's performance in the film umpteem times and always learns something new each time he has seen it. He is often seen rehearsing the intense look that Shahrukh Khan had while on the sets.

"The character, quite simply, has an unhealthy fixation with Nandini that borders on being quite frightful and obsessive. I have actually watched the movie Darr over seventy five times trying to understand the nuances of the character that Shah Rukh has portrayed in the film. The underlying vibes of terror that he exudes on screen actually give me goose bumps. Just to test my skills, I played a prank on a friend the other day by stalking her and she almost passed out in terror!!! Now I am prowling around for more 'victims' to practice on…. It's my dream to watch my portrayal of Krushna with my hero, Shah Rukh Khan and get his feedback and tips to better my performance," says Ajay with a devilish grin.

With viewers who meet Ajay at public places accosting him to stop harassing Nandini, it seems he's learnt his lessons well from watching Shahrukh Khan. Watch the drama as Nandini copes with her horrible past on Zee TV's Dil Se Diya Vachan, every Monday to Thursdayat 7 PM.

Airtel on SES 7 @ 108.2° E

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 11:34 PM PST

Airtel has started 3 TPs on SES 7 @ 108.2° E which is pretty far from the existing Insat 4CR beam @ 74°E. Now the question is, will airtel migrate all its TP as the deal with SES is for 12 TPs, or will it add on 3 TPs and rest 9 will be distributed among other Indian DTH providers as SES has not come out clear on which companies has the deal been made with. So Airtel Subscribers please let us know if Airtel Technicians are coming in to add extra LNB or just realigning the dish. . This will make way for shifting all 12 tps and freeing 7 on the Insat 4 CR for TS or adding of 12 + 7 TPs existing will make Airtel with largest no. of TPs 19 in all (Dish TV has currently 14 and the Max nos. till now)

2G Scam - 3G Scam - Full of crap

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 06:04 PM PST

2G scam: Cancelling licences not in public interest, says Centre - The Economic Times

our government is insane. i mean what the f. 2g licenses were sold for cheap. great. customers benefited from it as the prices of edge services became pretty affordable.

3g licenses were sold for massive premium. we have all seen what has happened. all the players seem to have formed an unofficial cartel. no one is starting a price war. consumer loses.

and now they are not in favor of following the rules they defined themselves! i mean why is it that you can do something wrong but make that right just by paying a penalty? it happens in real estate (unauthorized constructions are converted into authorized ones as long as you pay the relevant authority). the same is happening in the telecom market. pay a penalty and escape the actual punishment. the money collected through these routes does not benefit the consumer.

As far as stability, I am facing disconnection but not before 5-6 hrs. which I doubt due to overheating of USB modem. 200 gb cap is for one month, I heard this in other forums.

I connected my laptop via usb with Nokia E51 Dolphin 3G Jadoo. When I used Nokia PC Suite for connection, I get following speed

Alternatively, when I used Nokia OVI, internet was not working at all, but it was connected.

And yes, I have installed patch for usbser.sys from following location as mentioned in another thread:
KB925681 - When you try to download a file from the Internet by using Internet Explorer, the download stops responding.

frequent disconnection

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 11:43 AM PST

Check your splitter. Make sure that all connections come after splitter. Check this diagram

Try connecting directly to the modem and check.

Post your SNR and Attenuation values. Make sure that the line is clean has almost no joints and non insulated parts.

Also check the power adapter. Presume that they changed while changing the modem.

How secure is netconnect broadband plus ?

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 10:28 AM PST

Unless some govt. spies are after you .. you do not need to worry about your net connection
rest of the precautions ghpk has already mentioned(and yes, you can write a book on them)
And, if the govt. wants to spy on you, they can do it from the ISP itself..(or the bank, since its an Indian bank)

I preferred Focus's Super AMOLED to anything HD7 offers. more over, there seems be antenna death grip issues with HD7. I looked at many HD7 review videos and was disappointed at its display quality. not to mention the 1300 milli amp battery it has and its short battery life.

but, I would really miss HD7's 4.3 inch screen size.

Hi mnreddy,

I was looking forward to ordering a samsung focus from U.S. I have an option of ordering an unlocked device or a locked device and unlock it using a code. Were you able to unlock the samsung focus??
I have a few more questions : we do not have google maps, so how is the performance of bing maps in India??

I know but telecoms companies are not developing wired infrastructure. Right now, they are busy in 3g, LTE and wimax.
Right now, I heard fiber development from BSNL(costly), Hayai(yet not started) and akash fiber optics(installed in jaipur and other areas). No other company has planned for it.

Thanks for your link. This page is linked by most of the states. Even when I checked yesterday night only old rates are there. I think today they have updated this site.

Next, I will try the ipad 999 unlimited connection, after closing this 1359 at the end of this month.
Another alternate for me is EVDO ( 750 unlimited ). I have to recharge and check the present level of EVDO.

South Korea seeks internet speed of 1 Gigabit per second in every home!

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 08:09 AM PST

I do not want to bother you but this is old news. I have read it in year of 2009.
By 2012 Koreans Will Get 1Gbps Broadband Connections: Tech News and Analysis «

Actually, they are active in that field because they are on top to provide fastest internet in the world. That is why they want to secure their position forever.

Right now, fiber installation is going on in every developed country or being done. Only we are still living in old infrastructure. According to recent development in india on internet infrastructure, all countries are moving on fiber and only they develop wimax where fiber is not possible to install or less requirement in those area but we are moving on wireless technology everywhere except some highly developed and highly requirement area. Wimax develpment is little bit cheap as compared to fiber development. & also we do not have no of CPE manufacturer in india.

By the way, I got some article regarding recent NBP and further expecting development on it. I will post as soon as possible under broadband in india section.

Sun direct dictates to its customers

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 07:41 AM PST

SUN DIRECT IS A REAL CROOK. They block even the FTA TV & radio channels during active subscription period, which one can normally receive with a FTA STB from Measat.
India may be free & open competitive market on PAPER, but when it comes to DTH beyond a certain limit, all Operators seem to be colluding.
This is very bad. I can only visualize one single gainer in this, namely BEETEL (a division of BHARTI AIRTEL). Fed up with dth operator's dictates, ex-subscribers of dth are buying beetel fta STBs.
note: with a single dish pointing towards insat-4b & measat one can get good number of fta channels.

Kubica's seriously injured in rally crash

YouTube - robert Kubica crash in Andora rally.flv

This is so scary simulation of the accident. Kubica was lucky it went thru arm and not stomach. And his partner was even more lucky, he wasnt harmed at all.

Someone put this comment, even I was thinking the same. F1 drivers shud not be allowed to participate such events.

It's actually odd that Williams doesn't forbid these kind of activities by contract.
