Broadband rates going up, while GPRS and voice rates going down -- any explaination?

In 2006-2007, You could get an Airtel Night Unlimited connection for approx Rs 450 PM(256kbps) , with frequent speed boosts to 1Mbps or more. by 2008, it became 799 for Full day Unlimited, 256 with speed boosts again, no Fair Usage Policy.
Now, come to 2011, 899 - 512 kbps till 8GB, then 256 kbps , no random speed boosts either.
Earlier you could connect to the Technical customer care directly, now the CC wants you to format your computer if the Link light is not working on the modem.
Earlier you got D Link routers, now you get cheaper Beetel ones

In comparison, earlier data services used to be unaffordable on cell phones, now you get 2GB for just Rs 49 on DOCOMO, or Rs 98 on Airtel
Blackberry subscription used to cost ~ Rs 900-1000 , now its around 200-300
Voice rates have gone from Rs 2-3/min to Rs 0.1-0.3/min

Are the TELCO's using the broadband business to subsidise their mobile business?

Ideal size for Tablet Size - 7 inch or 10 inch ??

I think its depend on how you want to use your tablet for? If you want to use your tablet as a smart phone then anything greater than 7 inches screen is a burden you carry everywhere. If you looking for a casual browsing and youtube experience on the move then a 10-12 inches is good. And if you thinking you can replace your laptop level process work with a tablet, I believe you throwing your money in dump, better stick to your laptop cos tablets can't replace necessity of laptops... ;)

What the OP has said is absolutely true.

I was successful in booking tickets @ IRCTC only once. (Mumbai-Bangalore route). Had to play "Fastest Clicker First". Booked tickets using "Quick Book" in under in under 2 mins. I was done by 8:04 AM. Site totally crashed thereafter till 8:30 AM.

Since then, I've tried booking tickets many times. I used all the knowledge I have but still no luck.

IRCTC, is without a doubt one of the most corrupt organizations in India. You want proof? Try booking a Tatkal ticket @ 8AM. You'll get your proof. I find it hard to believe that this "503 Service Unavailable" can't be dealt with by adding more powerful servers. Maybe IRCTC should start using AWS. Oh wait, but then how will they be able to eat money if they start using AWS... :@

I have been trying to contact Customer Care of Reliance, but to no avail. I need to know one thing, I have a Blackberry 3G phone, do I have to get Blackberry services activated along with 3G plans. i am at present using Blackberry services from Vodafone. I have a Reliance GSM connection also with me, but am afraid to use 3G from Reliance, can somebody shed some light on it.

i dont have it but i heard that the battery life is VERY bad and the processor is overclocked from 600 - 800mhz
not a great option as of now, id suggest that u should wait for something better to come up.

Forgot to mention one more thing. Earlier, before discontinuing the service, they used to provide original stadium sound as well. So in ad breaks, one was able to shift to different camera angle and select stadium sound. So it was possible to skip annoying ads.

All in all, it is disappointing service. The only benefit of this service is that when some guests come to your house, you can show them that is it possible for you to view the match in different camera angle and you are not dependent on anybody to watch the scoreboard. They might get impressed. :o

i have factory unlocked iphone 4. i stay in mumbai.
i have tested mtnl 3g on it and docomo 3g (wen i went to pune).

mtnl gave 400kbps max
docomo gave 1.4 to 2mbps max

i want to use reliance 3g in mumbai. was thinkin to buy its simcard, cut it and use in iphone 4.

your screen/video suggest u get 2 to 6mbps.
1. does it still gives same high speed? cos i want speed.
2. wic 3g plan u use or suggest me? my gprs useage is 60 to 90 mb/month
3. what is the APN/user/pass? is it just rcomnet or changed to something else?

I had to send ACT NEWWWW299 to 111 to activate the VMC 299 2gb plan on my postpaid connection. As per the cc it will get activated from the next billing cycle. Even I got the confirmation sms of this request.

P.s.: Mine is a vodafone mumbai connection.

Hi Nuxer. Thanks for the feedback. Now I am able to access my Usage.

Earlier the layout of the page confused me.

The highlighted shadow around the "Services" (#2nd Tab at the top), was giving the wrong impression that it was the one being displayed (selected by default), when you enter the page on initial-login.

Its good that you are getting good speeds. I am not getting signals in my home. Even if phone logs on to 3G n/w it will be for a short time. It keeps on switching between 3G and 2G. Because of this i am facing too many call drops :(

Airtel now promoting 98 rupee Edge plan now that their 3G launch has been a umm... disaster?

A friend of mine says the 2GB plan was upgraded to 6GB! I dont use vodafone and Aircel offers 3GB where Unlimited end up at 1GB!Poor speeds

I keep losing DSL connection

Just a few hours back, I restored my modem to its default settings by choosing "Reboot > Restore Default Settings".

After that I typed in correct username and password and rebooted modem again. From then on, whenever I try to browse, I keep losing DSL connection for every 2-3 minutes.

What could have gone wrong?


My modem is : Nokia Siemens Networks


P.S.
The modem regains DSL connection after 1 minute, but then no website opens. I have to switch off the modem and switch it on back again to resume browsing. Only then I am able to open websites. But immediately after 2-3 minutes, the modem loses DSL connection again and the cycle repeats.

HotSpot Shield not working BSNL 3G

I was using Hotspot Shield for getting unique ip address in BSNL BG.But recently it is not able to connect !! I got this error:

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:895.

There are no proxies on.
Firewall is turned off.

Does BSNL is blocking HSS ??:@

I have used previously Sify , Reliance, BSNL EVDO broadband services.

Since last 1 year I am using Tata BB having 386 KBPS Day and 1.5MBPS Night speed with Fair Usage Limit of 80 GB per month.

Sometimes my download reaches to 100+GB , but Tata dosen't charge me extra for this.

My torrent speed ranges between 160 to 180 KBPS in night as its 1.5MBPS from night.

I am satisfied with the speed and download limit i.e. 80-100 GB is enough for me.:smile:

now m thinking of purchasing 1TB of Seagate FreeAgent ext HDD as i have already 250 GB and 160GB full with movies and no space :cry:

If it had been played in Kenya in 2003 with present Pak team with 2003 Kenya team - I would have said its a possibility. But realistically Kenya should feel better even if they run them close (even as close as Aus-Zim today)

The MTNL modem has a DSL port, 4 ethernet ports and one USB port. It's like a normal wifi router modem.

Thanks Yuri for your comments I really appreciate it.

Apart from the 4 ethernet ports there should be one more port can a ethernet wire go into that port or is it for a phone line port (small one) if its a small one they your are out of luck....... as it is a ASDSL WiFi router not a regular one.

I will do the video setup guide with Wifi router for reliance broadband and post it to youtube but it will take about 3-4 days as I am a bit busy.

Not sure why Sun Direct HD is charging 13,250 (customer care rep. stated that charge was increased from 3250 to 13250 confirmed twice.) for Star Cricket HD and ESPN HD Other network like Airtel charges Rs. 150 and Tata Sky charge only RS. 50. some one has to fire them and put a case for cheating the consumers. Note. They did not telecast the World Cup football in HD but charged me RS 3000. No compensation given.

Setting up Vonage with BSNL

Hi,
I got the vonage adapter model: vdv21-vd and i got the the BSNL broadband ul750 plan with teracom modem provided by Bsnl. The tech. guy from BSNL made pppoe settings in the modem i don't have to login again and again so i hooked up the adapter with the modem and it connect successfully but the problem i am facing is that i cannot make calls or receive as it get blanks after a ring while making a call and when i get a call same thing happens it rings but when i pick up the phone it goes blank.Sometimes it works fine but that is once in a blue moon. Anyone have any idea what should i do to make it works fine? i can upgrade the plan if needed

I would like the exisiting users to help me and tell me like wat Pings u get for ur connection.
