Posted: 24 Jan 2011 03:09 AM PST Tata Sky slated to launch HD PVR set top box - TechShout Tata Sky HD PVR With regards to the Indian television scene, it's been a few years since the Conditional Access System (CAS) raised a storm while promising better quality of transmission and lowered cable bills among other advantages. This had companies like Airtel and Tata stepping into the scene and offering consumers a chance to opt for alternative entertainment sources in the form of DTH services. *Tata Sky has now shared plans to introduce the HD PVR set top box across India soon.* While there isn't much information on the Tata Sky HD PVR device, it has been mentioned that the set top box will offer 500GB of storage capacity. This will most likely provide some space for hoarding recorded shows and movies users may have missed due to a schedule that is not tuned to the TV guide's. The 'HD' tag attached to the product name should clue in potential users about the picture quality of entertainment content which the device can be expected to render. Tata Sky hasn't offered anything more than a sneak peek of the HD PVR as yet. So the pricing details and definite launch date will have to wait under cover until the company decides to part with the information. |

Tata Sky to Launch HD PVR Set Top Box Posted: 24 Jan 2011 03:07 AM PST HD content is not exactly abundant in our lovely country, but Tata has decided to give us a little bit more than we already have. OK, so they're not really launching any new HD channels, but at least they're giving us the option to record HD content now. Tata has just announced that their Tata Sky HD PVR set top box will be launched soon. This set top box will have a storage space of 500 GB and will feature all the HD channels that are currently on Tata Sky's roster such as National Geographic and Movies Now. This new set top box will definitely be a blessing to those who don't want to miss out on their precious HD content, as they can now be recorded. I'm hoping that more channels are launched soon though. The rest of the world has been watching a wide variety of content in HD for a long time now and there are even talks of some pretty cool 3D channels being launched soon. It seems like we're almost always the last to get all the cool stuff. Why should we be made to feel like neglected step children? This is really frustrating and I really do hope that it changes soon, as regular TV is getting a little drab. Pricing for the Tata Sky HD PVR Set Top Box has not been announced yet, but do stay tuned for an update. Source : - Tata Sky to Launch HD PVR Set Top Box > News on General General > Tech2.com India |

Airtel 3G plans: A gateway to bankruptcy Posted: 24 Jan 2011 03:02 AM PST Airtel's plans would have worked if MNP was not available. I feel people who are using Wave, N8, Galaxy phones will be sticking to Airtel as they are getting 2GB for ~50Rs a month / N8 users are getting it for free. Also heard that video call will cost 5p/sec just like docomo. Let airtel learn a lesson by loosing hell lot of customers in mobile & broadband services. ---------- Post added at 04:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:31 PM ---------- Still their website is not updated with a launch info. |

Posted: 24 Jan 2011 02:54 AM PST Lol cartoon from ToI on scams - Psyched opposition ![]() I guess people just don't care or maybe they believe that their voting rights are not enough to change the system. I don't think there will be an alternative to the BJP for atleast another decade and the bjp won't rise till the regional parties continue to exist. It means that the current regime won't change even if food prices increase to another several folds or even if a dozen other scams come to light. Its very unfortunate. |

Pay as you go (data plans) and flattening data-plan tariffs. Posted: 24 Jan 2011 02:53 AM PST We're thinking of flattening out the tariffs for data plans, which has caused a few sparks to fly in the dark recesses and a new idea has been created: PAYG on data plans. Essentially there would be the base-fee of Rs599 as there is now, and then you could set a maximum bill amount (let's say Rs2000). Then, let's say we flatten out the per-GB price across the board (no matter how many GBs you buy), so that it's some nice round figure - let's put a basic figure of Rs10/GB for the sake of the argument. Then, you can use essentially as much (or as little) as you like until that billing limit is hit - in this case, it would be about 140GB. But let's say you only used 50GB in total (rounded up to the nearest ~51MB due to that being the smallest unit of currency) - then your monthly bill (post-paid or pre-paid) would come out to be Rs599 + 50GB @ Rs10/GB or Rs1099 - or if you used 51608MB (50GB + 408MB), then it would be Rs1103 and so on. This would eliminate the need for carryover GBs and all that, however the existing prepaid option would still remain (still with the ability to carry over as it exists now) - the difference now being that, because there is not staggered pricing any more, you could purchase pretty much the exact number of GBs you want, so instead of buying a data pack of 6GB, you could buy anything from 0.5 to 1000GB @ Rs10/GB (or Rs5 per 0.5GB). Good idea? Bad idea? As usual, let me know! |
