Mac Mail message problem

I have a Macbook Air and it is been installed with Mac Os X. The problem is with the Mac Mail. The messages in it have issue that is it shows that I have some unread messages but actually there is no unread message. Also the number goes on increasing when I receive any message. I was using desktop from last three years. But now I have switched myself to macbook. Few days before only I have imported some videos from my Canon Eviro into my macbook.
