They Call it a Broadband with speed less than what you pay for (less than 256kkbs) Posted: 30 Nov 2010 02:27 AM PST the cool thing about today's tech is that you really have little need to keep an eye on various forums or sites. you can keep a track through services like twitter/google alerts. you get regular updates with direct links to stuff related to your choice of keywords. no matter how busy he is, he can take 5 minutes out now and then and go through all the latest stuff related to his business brands. :) ---------- Post added at 03:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:56 PM ---------- i am myself a big fan of Real Time Search - Social Mention to keep an eye on some keywords that are of high interest to me. |

Comcast does it again (network neutrality) Posted: 30 Nov 2010 01:56 AM PST Level3 now advertises itself to certain companies as a CDN, but a *bandwidth supplier* to ISPs. Level3 has historically been a transport provider, but it seems now that Level3 core business has migrated in to delivering data on behalf of specific companies, they're pushing 5x as much traffic on to ISP networks (in particular, Comcast) as they receive back. Perhaps it was ok before because the ratio was only 2, 3 or 4x as much and this is deemed "reasonable", but now it's hit 5:1, it's now no longer reasonable and the peering agreement that they originally probably has some clauses about this very thing. Routing and Tariff Policy Ver.1.9: NIXI - National Internet Exchange of India (b) Tariff Policy ... # In order to simplify measurement, the NIXI will do the settlement between the ISPs accordingly. Thus, the ISPs will pay the NIXI the following accordingly: C x P x (X - Y) Where C is currently Rs. 25 per GBytes as mentioned in (b) above, and P has a value of 0 or 1 respectively if the ISP is a standalone Data Center (i.e his outgoing traffic is 5 times his incoming traffic), or is otherwise ISP. This amount will be rounded off to nearest hundred rupees. ... SETTLEMENT-FREE INTERCONNECTION (SFI) POLICY FOR COMCAST AS7922 Comcast AS7922 ... Applicant must maintain a traffic scale between its network and Comcast that enables a general balance of inbound versus outbound traffic. Now Comcast will be wanting L3 move on to Wholesale Dedicated IP Transit | Non-Transit Service | Full Transit Service | Direct Connectivity Verizon's ratio seems even more strict: Verizon Business Policy for Settlement-Free Interconnection with Internet Networks - Verizon Business 1.2 Traffic Exchange Ratio. The ratio of the aggregate amount of traffic exchanged between the Requester and the Verizon Business Internet Network with which it seeks to interconnect shall be roughly balanced and shall not exceed 1.8:1. As is AT&T's: AT&T Global IP Network Peering Policy| AT&T # Peer must maintain a balanced traffic ratio between its network and AT&T. In particular, a new peer must have: a. No more than a 2.00:1 ratio of traffic into AT&T: out of AT&T, on average each month. b. A reasonably low peak-to-average ratio. # Existing peers whose in: out ratio rises above 2.00:1 will be expected to work with AT&T to implement best-exit routing or to take other suitable actions to balance transport costs. Telefonica Telefnica International Wholesale Services Traffic exchange ratio. The ratio of the aggregate amount of traffic exchanged between the Partner and Telefónica International Wholesale Services Internet Network shall be balanced and shall not exceed 3:1 (ratio of traffic into TIWS: out of TIWS). etc. ---------- Post added at 03:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:25 PM ---------- Neuf (France) http://peering.n9uf.net/doc/Conventi...ai_2007_EN.pdf For settlement free public interconnection, applicant must meet the following Inbound to Outbound ratio: From 1G to 4G with no more than a 5:1 traffic ratio >4G with traffic ratio no more than 2:1 and I'm sure there are many, many others. |

Posted: 30 Nov 2010 01:43 AM PST TATA DOCOMO excels when it comes to coverage (within the city - atleast in Pune) and tariff plans. Can't say the same about their 3G services though. @OP: Migrate to TATA DOCOMO and use it for 90 days. If all izz well then continue with it else you can always migrate to Vodafone or some other operator! |
