Monkey Business :D

BBC News - Delhi ropes in monkeys for Commonwealth Games security
Delhi authorities have deployed a contingent of large black-faced langur monkeys at the Commonwealth Games venues to scare away smaller simians.
At least 10 langurs have been on duty outside some of the venues in the Indian capital, reports say.
Delhi civic authorities have 28 langurs and 10 more have been brought in from the neighbouring Rajasthan state.
Thousands of monkeys roam Delhi, mostly around government offices and are considered a public nuisance.

BSNL Will Launch Fixed Mobile Convergence In India

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 03:17 AM PDT

India's National Telecom Backbone Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will roll out fixed mobile convergence (FMC) service for its subscribers in India to provide seamless indoor coverage for GSM mobile service users. Talking with the media on the sidelines of 3G INDIA conference held at Taj Lands End in Mumbai, Mr. R. K. Agrawal, Director-Consumer Mobility, BSNL said that Company is geared up to launch the facility of the fixed mobile convergence which is able to provide better user experience and convenience with full connectivity while deep indoor area.
BSNL will launch its fixed mobile convergence facility to its subscribers once the mobile number portability (MNP) comes into effect.
The Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) is the trend towards seamless connectivity between fixed/landline and wireless/mobile telecommunications networks. The term also describes any physical network that allows cellular telephone sets to function smoothly with the fixed network infrastructure.
The ultimate goal of FMC is to optimize transmission of all data, voice and video communications to and among end users, no matter what their locations or devices. In the more immediate future, FMC means that a single device can connect through and be switched between wired and wireless networks.
Typically, these services rely on Dual Mode Handsets, where the customers' mobile terminal can support both the wide-area (cellular) access and the local-area technology (for VoIP). However, an alternative approach achieves FMC over 3G mobile networks – eliminating the requirement for Dual Mode.

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 03:06 AM PDT

HDTV (High Definition Television)
High Definition Television (HDTV) is a broadcast system that transmits pictures with more lines per frame, thus providing significantly higher resolution than traditional Standard Definition formats. HDTV provides powerful viewing experience with crystal clear picture quality, wide screen picture and digital surround sound. Aspect ratio of HDTV pictures is 16:9 as against 4:3 for SDTV (Standard Definition Television). HDTV can provide real difference in the programmes having fast and random moving objects such as sports events, live concerts, music videos etc. The use of HDTV in International sports events is increasing day by day and mega sports events are being covered in HDTV. The field of Cinema is also using HD format to store movies in digital form. HDTV is fast gaining popularity.
Doordarshan has taken up a pilot project of HDTV field production with a 4 camera HDTV van, EFP camcorders and post production facilities. Doordarshan has the plans to set up HDTV studios in Delhi & Mumbai, and field production as well as post production facilities for HDTV in the four metro cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata & Chennai. In addition, digital transmitters for transmission of HDTV programmes are planned to be set up at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata & Chennai. Also, an HDTV channel is proposed to be provided on "DD Direct Plus" free-to-air DTH service of Doordarshan. Implementation of above projects can be taken up after these are approved by the Government.
HDTV is best viewed on HDTV sets. HD ready plasma & LCD monitors are available in India. The existing SDTV sets can continue to receive HDTV signals by connecting through an external HD receiver box, which will improve the picture quality but not provide the full benefit of HDTV.

Media Asset Management System
Doordarshan archives has huge and valuable media asset of archival value stored in different VTR tape formats. Most of them are on old analog tape formats. The playback VTRs of such old formats are out of production now. Before available playback VTRs become unserviceable, these content need to be digitalized and preserved. Preservation of existing content is of utmost importance and is the need of the hour. Taking advantage of digitalization, Doordarshan has installed Media Asset Management System equipped with state of art technology at DD Archives located at Akashwani Bhawan, Parliament Street, New Delhi.
Main features of the above system are as under: a.Eight work stations for ingesting the content
b.Six work stations for low resolution browsing
c.Powerful metadata management capability for effective cataloguing & retrieval
d.Web-based interface to the users with remote access capability. It also supports multilingual capability
e.Powerful search engine enabling the user to search by using name of artist, metadata, keyword or unique ID
f.System has also got "Near-Line Storage" and "DVD authoring system"
g.System has functionality of viewing the selected high-resolution material from their respective storage and can export the high-resolution material to VTR
Training has been imparted to the concerned officials for ensuring effective utilization of the system.

Webcasting
Multimedia contents can be delivered to the viewer using "Webcasting". The term "Webcasting" is used to describe the ability to use the Web to deliver live or delayed versions of sound or video broadcasts. The viewer can watch a programme live (or delayed live) using video streaming on internet. This is getting more and more popular with the spread of Broadband connectivity in India. This platform is especially very attractive for Music, Movie and News related content. Doordarshan is also webcasting its DD News channel which is available on website www.ddindia.com .

Tips on How to Prepare for the BAR Exam

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 02:52 AM PDT

Law school is very challenging. If you have managed to finish law school unscathed, then congratulations are certainly in store. However, you have to remember that you have not yet crossed the finish line. You still have to face another challenge -- the BAR exam. The BAR exam is not easy. The exam is basically taking all of your years of learning in law school compressed into a single day or two. This means that the exam somehow manages to include all of the things you have learned in your years of going to law school. The series of exams includes both a multiple choice and essay section. Read this article and get ideas on how should you prepare yourself for the BAR exam.

Apply For The BAR Exam Very Early

You have to submit your application form for the exam as early as possible. In this way, you can still make corrections if there are any errors in your application form. Applying very early will also give you more time to visit the venue of the examination. By visiting the venue, you won't feel very nervous during the actual examination since you'll have already familiarized yourself with the surrounding.

Take Review Courses

BAR review courses are necessary to get a better idea of how to go about passing the examinations. Make sure that you opt for a review center that has an excellent track record. An excellent review center is a bit expensive, but it is usually really worth the extra cost.

You have to take the BAR examination seriously. Just imagine all of the studying and anxiousness you've endured during your pre-law and law school years. If you want your efforts to pay off, make sure that you start your preparation as early as possible. Right after graduation, cut down your time with friends and spend as much time as possible reviewing for the BAR. In this way you can increase your chances for success when taking the BAR.

Tikona broadband download speed

In short, it is not an apples-to-apples comparison.
The only fair way would be to meter the network traffic directly including IP headers et al. and compare that way or use the same application downloading the same data from the same server to compare.

Yes, that's right. I think the OP was confused by that stupid subtle difference between kbps and kBps - he thought Tikona was offering 512kbyte/s (which is what the application would report) and would be highly disappointed to receive only 40-45 as he does currently (in other words, he thought he'd get an upgrade, but he may actually end up getting worse service).

So all I was pointing out was that, on a 512kbit/s service, 40-45kbyte/s is probably at the lower end of what that speed connection *should* reasonably provide - not many protocols have 30+% overheads.

Where to escalate if airtelpresence@airtel.in doesn't responds?

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 01:48 AM PDT

Hi Folks,
I am having a terrible time with the Airtel Broadband support.

When I am requesting Airtel (via email) to cancel out my paper bills and enable paper bills, they are sending me duplicate paper bills.

I have been (thru multiple reminders) requesting them to help me registering my account (as I am getting an error - This Airtel Number is not
registered.) on airtel.in, they simply aren't replying.

Pathetic customer support till date, I would say.

So, any escalation hierarchy that you folks know of!!

I stay in Faridabad (if that matters).

Thanks in advance.
